Change underway at SFA, Irish Voice launch

650

Some of the reaction to Peter Lawwell’s promotion to the top table of the bowling club yesterday was thoroughly entertaining, including some from our own side.  As a rule, I’m happy to germinate nonsense which distracts potential opponents from applying logical analysis to their world, so now THE EVIDENCE is all there!!

The SFA badly need higher calibre board members and, despite some generous assessments (from all sides), Celtic’s influence over the Association has been akin to pushing water up a marble staircase.  The only genuine solutions to Scottish football’s problems will be to the benefit of all clubs, not just the main income generator.  This is the challenge Peter Lawwell should set himself.  By delivering well-funded, competitive football for all, he will best look after the interests of Celtic.  Big changes all round are required.

I was accustomed today by a suggestion that Celtic were about to announce debts of over £30m after investing in some underperforming bonds!  Fortunately the story teller is listening to the wrong people and this is complete fantasy.  At least this nonsense keeps people from reading the accounts and asking by our board blow so much cash on amortisation each year instead of buying players.

Shout out to the newly launched Irish Voice newspaper, issue one of which is now out.  Focussed on “Bringing you all the news from the Irish in Scotland” it’s a really impressive read – and it’s free!  Check it out online here and look out for the paper copy.

    Intellect corrupts feeling

You know, there is the intellect, and there is pure feeling—the pure feeling of loving

something, of having great, generous emotions. The intellect reasons, calculates, weighs, balances. It asks, “Is it worthwhile? Will it give me benefit?” On the other hand, there is pure feeling—the extraordinary feeling for the sky, for your neighbour, for your wife or husband, for your child, for the world, for the beauty of a tree, and so on. When these two come together, there is death. Do you understand? When pure feeling is corrupted by the intellect, there is mediocrity. That is what most of us are doing. Our lives are mediocre because we are always calculating, asking ourselves whether it is worthwhile, what profit we will get, not only in the world of money, but also in the so-called spiritual world—“If I do this, will I get that?”

Wisdom of Krishnamurti strangely applicable to Celtics transfer policy?

  8. McCart hails benefits of UEFA Youth League

By: Mark Henderson on 04 Sep, 2013 16:34

CELTIC´S Head of Youth, Chris McCart, believes participating in the inaugural UEFA Youth League will prove invaluable in the development of the club´s young players.

The Under-19s´ involvement in the innovative competition was dependent on the first-team qualifying for the Champions League group stage.

So their dramatic play-off victory over Shakhter Karagandy last week was cause for real celebration within the Academy, especially following the suspension of the NextGen Series which the young Celts had taken part in over the past two years.

And McCart told the official website that it would introduce the club´s youngsters to football at the highest level.

“With the first team qualifying for the group stages it´s fantastic that there is the added bonus of our under-19s having the opportunity of playing in the first-ever UEFA Youth League,” he said in an exclusive interview.

“Everyone was disappointed with the news that NextGen would be suspended for a year. But being involved with this UEFA Youth League gives us the opportunity to continue with that experience, as it´s certainly benefited players in the past over the past two seasons playing in these types of games.

“Our main purpose is to try and develop players to their very highest level and Champions League football is the highest level.

“Celtic have shown over the years that it is a Champions League club with the first-team regularly competing in the Champions League and that’s the standard we want to aspire to and want our young players to reach.

“The more experience they get when they are younger in terms of the travel, the different cultures and different football philosophies will all be a great education for them and will hopefully stand them in great stead for the future.”

The hotly-anticipated draw in Monaco merely intensified the excitement for the young Celts as they will mirror Neil Lennon´s men by going head-to-head with Barcelona, AC Milan and Ajax – three of the finest youth teams on the continent.

“Ajax and Barcelona are both NextGen teams – Ajax got to the final in the first year and we played Barcelona in the first year,” said McCart. “They are certainly very strong and their have strength-in-depth with the quality of their players and there is great investment in their Academy.

“It will be the first time being involved with AC Milan and everyone is excited about the different experiences we will get against these teams.”

The games will be played in stadia close to the main event and supporters will be able to come along and back the Bhoys home and away.

“UEFA are going to encourage that and it will be the same for our home games as well,” added McCart.

I have a request to all the poets out there – I’ve seen quite a few verses penned on these pages so I need some help.

We are going to a wedding this month and the bride and groom sent out invites last month – on this invite was a poem and basically the gist of it was – we want cash not presents.

Now – I always give cash – never bought a prezzie in me life for a wedding but 2 things this time.

    1. The same couple and all their family have always given presents (even when it was requested that presents not to be given only cash). At our own wedding, as we had lived together for years had no need for presents requested this and they still proceeded to give us a clock!!

    2. We had already bought the prezzie earlier on in the year – spent €150.

So what I would like is for someone to pen me a poem basically saying feck you, we’d already bought the present and that’s all your getting.

And also my wife is singing for them at the church, which she won’t get anything for either!!!

    Thanks in advance:)

I think for Scottish football to honestly and truly progress there is a hierarchy of obstacles that needs to be removed from within it.

    1. Masonry

    2. The Rangers

    3. The Old Firm

There are also matters that need to be built.

    4. Honest governance

    5. Transparency

    6. Accountability

    7. Communication

Only then will the Scottish public embrace the sport as clean and serving their desire for an honest competitive product that they are willing to invest time, money and emotion in.

I do not think they will be fooled if that is not done and seen to be done.

In fact with the appointment of PL to the board then obstacle number three will be swapped with one above if it has not already.

If Scottish football is prepared to be a closed shop of tolerant Old Firm supporters and I include Non Old Firm fans who still contribute to the game then little will. change.

Personally I dont think it will change as we are ensconsed in rebuilding the old Firm brand.

The idea that anything will change after witnessing the launch of the new SPFL is risible.

At some point in time like a tory cabinet minister who has been caught being unfaithful the confession in front of the cameras and baying press pack and more importantly the pseudo intellectual bampots has to take place.

Because if Its not then we have to accept that it is indeed the same old same old

Well I take your point, having lived in England most my life it doesn’t surprise me.

    But

Compare and contrast that with the SFA President, have you heard him voice any ambition for the Scotland team, infact does he ever comment at all?

I can’t answer that but as a Scotland fan I certainly haven’t heard anything.

Though I have seen him getting involved in and commenting on but not condeming a highly discredited, liquidated Football Club and a Pheonix that was somehow allowed to take over said disreputed Club’s SFA Membership to ensure, as the phoenix played in the same ground, with the same Kit, they could advance the pretence there were some sort of continuity of this Club.

Even though the Scotland National squad should be a huge part of his remit and as he has stated himself he can have nothing to do with OldCo/NewCo as he was heavily conflicted.

    Greensideup/Greenjedi @ 16;07,

Not quite, the SFA has three Boards…

SFA face new challenge from Sevco

    Date: 4th September 2013

    Written by: Joe McHugh

SFA could be on a collision course with Sevco over the appointment of Paul Murray and John McClelland as directors.

While their fit and proper person guidelines have been shown up by the appointments of Charles Green and Craig Whyte the laws regarding directors of clubs in insolvency events are clear cut.

Rule 10.2 (j) in the SFA’s Articles of Association excludes anyone who has been a “director of a club in membership of any national association within the five-year period preceding such club having undergone an insolvency event”.

Last night it emerged that Murray and McClelland could be appointed to the Sevco board in an attempt to avoid holding an EGM.

Both men were directors of Rangers (IL) until May 2011 and should be banned from being a director of any football club until May 2016.

With Campbell Ogilvie as President and Stewart Regan running for cover it is likely that the SFA will attempt to find a way around that ruling if recent events are any guideline.

Despite Rangers going into liquidation a highly secretive five way agreement was conjured up which attempted to place the newco into the SPL without any audited accounts.

A year after being given the red carpet treatment Sevco have still to produce audited accountswith the moves to bring in Murray and McClelland an attempt to avoid staging an EGM.

Led by Carmunock based billionaire Jim McColl a request by a group of rebel shareholders has been made for an EGM to remove three current directors and appoint Murray alongwith Frank Blin.

With briefing and spin the order of the day the usual suspects were contacted last night with news of the compromise which will see Blin and Murray appointed to the board alongwith Sandy Easdale while Craig Mather, Brian Stockbridge and Billy Smart stay on board.

An AGM is expected in October but that will only be possible if audited accounts are released for shareholders to view.

With Mather recently admitting that ‘there is £10m in the bank’ despite a share issue in December of £22m it’s debatable whether any accountant will sign off the accounts confirming that the new club is a viable going concern.

The logic and benefits of appointing two directors who signed off the accounts of a club that ended up in liquidation seem uncertain.
