Changes needed on the right side

178

Playing three at the back creates a specific role for the wingback.  Wilfried Nancy had Alistair Johnston on the right when the pair were at Montreal.  Johnston’s pace, endurance and ability to cross from the byline is perfect for this formation.

Alistair’s return is months away, so the manager will need to come up with an alternative to reinvigorate our right side which has been poor all season.  We don’t have a perfect facsimile.  Anthony Ralston can hit the line and cross, Colby Donovan has energy, but we have only seen a small sample size.

Yang is the best crosser at the club (oh yes he is), but he is not a wingback.  Similarly, there is nothing I can see in Daizen Meada that suggests he is a better option through the middle than Johnny Kenny.  Daizen, though, has the energy and pace to play wingback, he is an obvious choice to move wide.

As we discussed yesterday, playing Daizen in front of Kieran Tierney, with Auston Trusty in the middle and Liam Scales left, is a better deployment of resources than Sunday’s lineup.

    Hot Smoked…

I don’t know if you have been following the Netflix/Warner Bros story and Paramount’s sudden involvement. Trump states he may intervene in the acquisition by Netflix. Coincidently (😉) Paramount’s CEO is the son of Larry Ellison who is a billionaire Trump supporter and financial contributor to the Republican Party. Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is also part of the Paramount bid…and of course it must be pointed out that Paramount owns the pro-Trump networks CNN and Fox News…funny that eh?

“Trump said he would be involved in a decision on Netflix’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. studios and streaming assets.

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday night that billionaire Larry Ellison — whose son David is CEO of Paramount Skydance — called Trump after Netflix’s deal to buy Warner Bros. Discovery’s TV, film studios and streaming division for $72 billion US was announced on Friday, and told him the transaction would hurt competition.”

If we were to play Hearts again tomorrow , even with just that couple of extra days on the training pitch , I think we would see a much different outcome . Don’t think it will necessarily secure 3 points against a very good Roma , but come Sunday I firmly believe we will prove a real hot handful for Saints compared to the last performance at Love st .

  4. Trumps daughter Ivanka appointed to a new FIFA 100 million dollar project……WTF

The speed of this greed and corruption is scary

ZURICH (AP) — FIFA added another personal link to U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday by appointing his daughter Ivanka to the board of a $100 million education project part-funded by 2026 World Cup ticket sales.

Ivanka Trump, tennis great Serena Williams, singers Shakira and The Weeknd, actor Hugh Jackman and soccer star Kaka are on the advisory board of the charity fund created by FIFA and the Global Citizen anti-poverty nonprofit.

“The board will provide strategic guidance to maximize the fund’s reach and impact,” FIFA said in a statement. The project is split between grants awarded to grassroots education in more than 200 countries and the soccer body’s worldwide schools program.

FIFA said $30 million is already raised toward the fund’s $100 million target and will get $1 from each World Cup ticket sold. More than seven million spectators are expected to attend the 104 games in 16 host cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11-July 19.

  5. I’ve mentioned a few times before – I wasn’t a fan of the Nancy appointment. Just doesn’t strike me as a leader of men – too emotional for this job in Scotland. However , I’m willing to give him my full support.

The total over reaction to defeat to hearts tells you all you need to know about Scottish culture. The hatred and jealousy of Celtic is deep. Then you’ve got priks like allerdyce coming out mouthing off his opinion AFTER he loses opener. His trap would be firmly shut had we won. The psychology of the game is significant. If the players start to believe mainstream and social media – it will affect performances. That why we need a strong leader. I do worry for Nancy in that regard.

Then the question is – do we spend 20m in January ??

Btw the first 35 mins was fantastic – forget formations – we didn’t lose goals as a result of 3-5-2. We lost because we don’t have a striker we can depend on , yet.

Ineacho needs to step up – cup final win could spring us forward.

  7. Yep, first 35 against Hearts was probably the best we’ve played in months, going back to last season.

It was certainly better on the eye.

Weather was awful and we played at 100mph, so rushed the final ball/shot.

You should have thrown in those who booed Tommy Callaghan, even those who booed Jim Melrose. So some folk may have dissed the new manager (not me btw) and you have lumped them into a general malcontents bucket for the ages.

    Your’e sounding desperate now.

Personally, I hope WN succeeds massively. He’s an underdog. Just like we were. And hes said as much too. I also hope players like Yang, Kenny and other make me eat my words big time.

No CNN is currently owned by Warner Bros. Discovery but interestingly is not part of the Netflix takeover deal, might be something to do with Netflix not wanting to have to report on worldwide news….Current CEO Mark Thompson, formerly of the NYT and the BBC and hardly likely to be pro Trump, but wont be for much longer if Paramount takes over.

Fox is part of the Murdoch media empire, though not of News Corporation, currently headed by son Lachlan, so not impacted by either deal. Not sure how pro Trump Lachlan is personally.

From earlier. Thought I saw JSP in the background at Brother Wilfried’ s first training session at Lennoxtown.

Speaking of which if I was big Wilf I would leave the training to Gavin and for now observe from the side. (would have kept Shaun & Mark but’s that’s by an by).

JSP might be a good shout for a back 3, seems mobile and pretty good in the air. Lacks game time though.

From last blog. It’s all about goals, especially the ones we’ve lost out of the team:

At approx this stage last season (after 16 games) we had 44 points and a goal difference of +40 (GF 44, GA 4).

At the moment (after 15 games), we have 32 points and a goal difference of +14 (For 25 against 11).

At the same stage Hearts had 16 points and a goal difference of -7. (having played 2 more games than us).

This season they have 35 points and a GD of +19.

To state the obvious, goals win games and the team with the best GD normally wins the league. It is a good prediction indicator.

    ————————

Something bothers me about last season in that the broader support, and fan led media in particular have almost written it off as “the lost treble” rather than “another double” and in fact our highest ever Goal difference (+86 more than double the 2nd place).

In the league we scored 112 goals our 4th highest in 134 seasons, and only 4 behing the record.

I also think, my personal opinion, the run in football suffered from the massive comedown after Munich, but still we scored more goals.

In the future, were does last seasons LEAGUE acheivements rank in the list of Celtic winning seasons.

Some of the most memorable leagues are remembered for last gasp titles and everyone forgets how we got there. And gow often we were diablical at some points of those winning seaso in particular wehn ten men won the league, love street, one season we won the league but only scored 55 goals.

WINNING FOOTBALL is more important for me, than being entertained.

We will be missing the ball retention and horseshoe football soon, convinced of it.

I head someone call clyde – we have to win the league cup to set up a treble, and if he doesnt win it, it is on the manager …………

    ffs.
