Chaotic life of SPL chief exec

957

The seemingly chaotic life of the Scottish Football League chief executive, David Longmuir, appears more predictable after First Division clubs made their feelings on league reconstruction known. Significant amounts of trickle-down money is available from the SPL to second-tier clubs from next season if they vote to merge the league organisations, which is likely to result in an 18 team bottom league. Longmuir managed to put a spoke in the wheels of a considerable majority in favour of reconstruction but his hopes will be denied.

Three weeks ago we reported speculation that Longmuir aspired to a job at Newco Rangers. Yesterday he responded by saying, “I know there are different expressions of conspiracy going on but I don’t deal in conspiracy, I deal in fact and honesty”. You can bookmark that for future reference.

I predict that the conspiracy will soon merge with fact and honesty – if Newco can still afford to recruit next season.

    Super post, amigo.

Scotland can have a good professional game and Scottish clubs can win and do well in Europe. The national team can wash its face in European and world tournaments. It’s happened before. It can happen again.

Without Rangers or Sevco there may be less money around, but what benefit did Scottish football derive from all the cash they splashed under Murray? None. No benefit. And quite a lot of harm.

Indeed. Remember when Rangers went through a phase of unsettling Dundee players in particular and then offering pitiful sums for them? (thumbsup)

  4. Pardew to speak with NFL to get some advice on how to play Benfica.

I hope Lenny gives him short shrift,Pardew is a condescending twat.

Celtic_First – Thank you good sir, it is great to be back.

cod liver oil or Omega 3?

Omega 3 sounds like a low-end executive saloon driven by David Brent types so I’d have to say cod liver oil, unless they change the name of the other thing to something more aspirational, like “RangeRoverWineBar 3” or “Pippa Middleton’s Honeyed Buns”.

As long as it isn’t organic or “fair trade”. Organic attracts hippie types and I have complained to my local branch of Sainbury’s about the only bananas available being “fair trade”. Why should I have to subsidise lazy banana farmers so they can live the life of Riley in their tropical paradises? (thumbsup)

Fair enough, I feel very young now ;-)

I’ve actually enjoyed my Scottish football this year, especially coming back to win from 1-3 down at the last one I was at.

I think teams have come to our place this year with a ‘have a go’ attitude, we used CL hangover as an excuse but there has been a sea-change this year.

I’ve also taken in some Scottish games on sky and thouroughly enjoyed them, 100% commitment with no little skill on show, the LCF was great sport.

We will face more challenges in the coming seasons as no doubt one (or hopefully more) of the bigger clubs will step up.

This must have been a fantastic season financially for Dundee United for example. Is it 3 derby sell outs and now semi finals in the SC? A wee team even boycotted a game against them and it was STILL a sell out ;-)

I have always said Rangers were a millstone, I think I am correct.

  7. Stringer Bell on

I think it would be fair to say that every single person professionally involved in Scottish football would welcome the Huns into the top flight, with probably one exception.

The people who don’t want this are the fans. We won once already and can win again.

Stringer Bell @11:36 would you like that vicious little thug to be rehabilitated in a house next door to you?

    It attributes responsibility.

No, not particularly. I would hope for some middle ground between him being medically paralysed or living next door to me.

My reasoning is I would not be prepared to administer the injection, or bone cracking (not sure how they will choose to paralyse the man in question) myself.

Of course, if he had money, it would be different.

If you favour this approach for a justice system, that system must be beyond reproach. Do you know one that is?

  12. The whole league reconstruction thing is just a guise to fast track Sevco with Longmuir pulling the strings.

1st up comes the 12-12-18 set up with all 3 of the governing bodies support.

Secondly , Longmuir at Chucks bidding throws in the colt grenade.Spl/SFL teams up in arms .

Thirdly, Longmuir speaks to fellow members negatively on 12-12-18 and doubt creeps into the wee teams.

Fourthly, the SPL2 proposal if thrown in which would be by invitation only

Fifth . The End Game . SFL teams vote against 12-12-18 and SPL2 created.Sevco immediately invited to join and accept .

    Chuck and Longmuir win.

    This must be resisted

“I predict that the conspiracy will soon merge with fact and honesty – if Newco can still afford to recruit next season.”

I said as much yesterday. Patsy Longmuir has deliberately cast doubt and spread misinformation among his members on behalf of the only Scottish club who don’t qualify for a vote in reconstruction.

He demanded proof of the four-year television deal in last week’s meeting at Hampden – presumably because an unemployable blogger, who is as desperate for a job at Ibrox as Longmuir is, claimed the plug was about to be pulled by the TV companies if Sevco don’t get their way.

Unfortunately for the patsy, Doncaster produced the document which confirmed the length of the contracts. That should end the confusion – and Longmuir’s hopes of employment with Sevco 5088.

I think he will be removed from his current post when his member clubs have the chance to do so.

  18. Burghbhoy,

I have my doubts that those involved in administering Scottish football possess the ability to come up with such a cunning plan. Looks to me like they are lurching from one cock up to the next – but we do need to be vigilant to ensure that Green does not find a way to profit from it all.

  28. If a Celtic player mimed firing a gun he would be arrested under the Prevention Of terrorism Act. Clearly he would be showing support for a proscribed organisation in response to chants from the fans, and so the club would be fined too. We would be ordered to play several games behind closed doors – and Neil Lennon would be given a six match touchline ban for not stopping it.

Thanks very much. In response to your question, I have never seen a haddock with a bad back and I spent my formative years in a fishing port, as you know.

But for the avoidance of doubt, I’ve not got arthritis. I just want to deal with a few wee twinges before embarking on the old Camino de Santiago in the autumn. A substantially older and wiser colleague told me he swore by the old cod liver oil.
