Chaotic life of SPL chief exec

957

The seemingly chaotic life of the Scottish Football League chief executive, David Longmuir, appears more predictable after First Division clubs made their feelings on league reconstruction known. Significant amounts of trickle-down money is available from the SPL to second-tier clubs from next season if they vote to merge the league organisations, which is likely to result in an 18 team bottom league. Longmuir managed to put a spoke in the wheels of a considerable majority in favour of reconstruction but his hopes will be denied.

Three weeks ago we reported speculation that Longmuir aspired to a job at Newco Rangers. Yesterday he responded by saying, “I know there are different expressions of conspiracy going on but I don’t deal in conspiracy, I deal in fact and honesty”. You can bookmark that for future reference.

I predict that the conspiracy will soon merge with fact and honesty – if Newco can still afford to recruit next season.

    I watched PSG 2 —— Barca 2 on Italian tele .

After PSG equalized in the 94th minute the camera panned to Vilanova who was expressing the opinion that something /somebody was ” the son of a whore “.

Are the Spanish fitba authorities / Uefa on Vilanova’s case ?

Are you seriously suggesting that the Saudis may have a polnt.

That paralysing someone for a crime committed while they were 14 years old is justice.

When would be the best time to administer such a punishment.

When the perp is still a child or would you humanely wait until their 18th birthday.

Best news of the day is that the No To Newco site is up and running again, to try and derail the next leg up.

  7. My auld man works with Paul Hartley at Alloa and told me there was going to be an article in paper today. Apparently the press guy asked him if the Celtic fans were missing the rangers and he said yes. Looks as if the press have added the remaning meat to the bones ie get sevco back in SPL. Told my da to tell Hartley that 95% of fans i speak to definetly dont miss them. The press may be waning but still mould opinions.

Clink\o/ – I wouldn’t like to see Islamic jurisprudence applied to our society, but Saudi Arabia isn’t our country, it’s theirs.

Also, chopping the right hand off of shoplifters is statistically proven to reduce recidivism by 50%.

But I’m more worried about what goes on here, where we humanely allow thieves and burglars to roam the streets despite having dozens of previous convictions, and where we breed a feral underclass of Mick Philpotts who have no incentive to work for a living.

Demonising the poorest and most vulnerable in society is just another take on the tried and trusted divide and conquer.

  19. philvisreturns on

Bawsman – Who is “demonising the poorest and most vulnerable in society”?

Surely you don’t mean me criticising our justice system for allowing people with dozens of criminal convictions to walk the streets? Criminal thugs prey on the poor and vulnerable.

Surely you don’t mean Mick Philpott, who was reportedly claiming over £60K a year in benefits at the expense of people who have to work for a living? He was neither poor nor vulnerable.

I bought an extra season book this year BECAUSE the Scottish football supporters refused to bend the knee.

I will do so again next year if the same happens, I wrote to Peter Lawwell and stated this, he gave me a good POSITIVE letter in response.

I go to watch Celtic, the football this season has been more competative, we’ve not been great post CL games but we don’t have the RIGHT to 3 points, other clubs are coming at us at home and away, this will be good for our game.

If they can make some cash by finishing higher, staying in cups longer, getting a few European games, they will keep their younger stars and better players.

We’ve made a fortune from the CL and should restructure our callender to accomodate the 3 CL Pre-qualifiers every close season to keep the bucks and the BIG games rolling in.

The Hun were an irrelevance in the 80′S, Scottish clubs were winning in Europe, the national side qualified for EVERY tournament, leagues went to the last day with different contenders, HUGE travelling support came to Celtic Park.

Scottish football was destroyed by Rangers, let’s give it a chance to rebuild.

  22. StumptownBhoy-(ex-SanDiegoBhoy)For_wee_Oscar on

On a positive Celtic note, from here on out I shall be re-allocating disposable income that went the way of Hampden Park to an increased contribution to Celtic coffers. I can only think of two reasons that posters would continue to regurgitate nonsense on the blog that they are Celtic supporters, but refuse to support the Club financially. I respect their right to air their views, however, although I’m bemused over their contorted attempts at logic.

If all the SFA can find now to perpetuate negative spin toward the Club is have a sneaky microphone pointed in the direction of the manager, then we are in very good shape indeed. Despite the irritation in actually having to deal with these jumped up, gravy train leeches, they are in fact just making a fool of themselves.

Is it your view that for rebuilding to take place on a solid, sustainable footing, we need to clear up the Sevco myth once and for all, or for Sevco to go the way of Rangers?

It is mine. And until we have the truth of it acknowledged by all, it will be impossible for us to move forward in the correct way.

Arrangements for the Fans against Criminalisation Rally on Saturday in George Square are moving towards completion. Assemble at 12 and the speakers will begin at 12.30. The Rally will be introduced by a FAC representative and confirmed speakers are Michael McMahon MSP and Jeanette Findlay, FAC. We hope to have a legal/civil rights speaker but that is still to be finalised. We have discussed the arrangements for the use of the Square with Glasgow City Council (including the speakers’ platform and a sound system) and discussions continue regarding the movement of fans from George Square to Celtic Park afterwards

  25. Afternoon all,

Have just seen some very encouraging news on facebook.

It seems Wee Oscar’s MIBG scans from last week look ‘normal’ and there is no sign of any cancer activity.

They are still waiting on his bone marrow to be tested but this is ‘VERY encouraging’ as his doctor put it!

So hope this means the Wee man is going to be clear of cancer

Keep fighting Oscar you’re a wee legend!!

  27. Some excellent points by Auldheid and Bawsman earlier.

I wrote earlier about a state of the nation address from Peter Lawwell or Iain Bankier that I’d expect after the league is won.

Rumours and some informed opinion seem to suggest that there will be a ‘reward’ for season ticket holders with various amounts of discounts mooted. This would be good along with the reintroduction of the £50 child ticket. But more radical thinking is needed with tickets and Auldheid has posted some excellent ideas about this.

However this is only one way to re-engage fans. I have two season books and I’ll continue paying my son’s till he is in employment. I will always go to Celtic Pk, it is what I do but others have stopped and we must listen to them. Some feel the board don’t listen; they haven’t acted on Sevco; they are trying to get rid of the GB; they have no ambition etc etc

Some people are unreasonable and wouldn’t listen even if explanations were given but a good many feel they are taken for granted and when the money is ‘off the account’ it’s silence from Celtic Park.

The empty seats sadden me-and for some it is economic reasons- but it’s not a new thing; I posted about a Championship clinching game a few days ago (1982) and the crowd was 39,000 (old Board I know!) and many will remember the 25-30,000crowds of the 80’s but we should be striving to have 50,000 at home games. My point is we need to find some unity, a sense of purpose that will steer the club through this era, engaging our young supporters and keeping them for decades to come.

I actually feel Celtic’s public silence has been a shrewd tactic at times and I know work continues behind the scenes but PR speak about the GB and police harassment damage the board. Many of us have turned to the new media including Celtic Radio shows for the truth as we are sick of the SMSM. The one voice missing is from the custodians of Celtic.

I do not expect them to react to decisions in matches and events like yesterday’s ridiculous swearing fiasco but they could reach out a bit more.

Silence can be golden but we do need to hear something. Engage with your fans, lead from the front and you may see a few return to fill those green and white seats.

    Excellent.

For personal reasons, I would like the shared season book idea to get proper consideration. Why couldn’t it work? If there is a seat free, why I can’t I pay enough to occupy it for half of the games? Why does it have to be all or nothing?

I would get my card and my list of games. If I turn up on the wrong day, the card doesn’t let me in (which last time this came up was the counter-argument some people put forward). It’s my fault.
