Charlie is back, did he ever go away?

673

So Charlie’s back.  Did he ever really go away? I suspect not.  Sevco Scotland/The Rangers FC/Rangers International is Charles Green’s project.  He was the guy who picked the pieces up from the Rangers liquidator.

He was the guy, through liberal use of words like ‘bigotry’, ‘No surrender’ and ‘Dallas Cowboys’ managed to convince thousands of people to buy into a version of reality which convinced them to spend money.

He cut a deal with the compliant Ally McCoist to shift tickets in 2012, then did the same with Walter Smith in 2013, and co-opted a variety of flunkies to the cause along the way.  The £22m raised at an IPO was down to him.  No one else would have been able to achieve the latter feat, and he is needed again.

The move only appears audacious to those who have not been paying attention.  When Green bought Rangers assets two years ago, the game was up.  Those assets would be bled green, white and gold in order to provide as large a return on investment as possible.  Nothing has changed.

What is needed at Ibrox right now is someone to pitch up saying, “Bigotry, No surrender, forget what I said earlier, it’s the same club, now buy your ticket, you tell them Ally/Walter/whoever next”.  Charlie is perfect for this job.

The reality that existed pre-2012 is gone.  That club’s assets were bought from a liquidator and are now masquerading around the lower leagues of Scottish football.  Those who stepped forward, paid their money, and in doing so, actually gave thousands of people a club to support, are in charge – as is their right.

This is not a good thing if you have an affinity with that club, but it’s better than having Ibrox “razed to the ground” (remember Bomber Brown’s warning), so no matter what fans think of Charles Green, it’s time to accept his reality: Rangers were liquidated, fans were not organised, wealthy fans declined to step forward, the assets were bought by people who WILL make a financial return and Charles Green is one of the few people with an idea of how to deliver this.

    Like SFTB I don’t wish to introduce politics to the blog on this fine day in North Ayrshire, but there was a lovely photo of Joanna lamont,Ruth Davidson and Willie Rennie. So well matched together, but not quite a lovely as the photo of Alistair Darling receiving such a rapturous applause at the recent Tory Party Conference

    This happened to an Englishman in France who was totally drunk.

    The French policeman stops his car and asks the gentleman if he has been drinking. With great difficulty, the Englishman admits that he has been drinking all day, that his daughter got married in the morning to a French man, and that he drank champagne and a few bottles of wine at the reception and a quite few glasses of single malt there after.

    Quite upset, the policeman proceeds to alcotest (breath test) him and asks the Englishman if he knows under French Law why he is going to be arrested.

    The Englishman answers with humour: No sir, I do not! But while we’re asking questions, do you know that this is a British car and my wife is driving… on the other side???

    You only joined the blog to push your nat agenda, which you do day after day, albeit in a laughably cack handed manner.

  9. Aulheid,

    as always, I enjoy reading your posts.

    Scottish football was faced with going from 2 ‘big’ clubs to having one big club. The former situation meant that no club outside the big 2 would ever win the league. This, as much as anything else, meant that Scottish football would never progress in any significant way.

    Decision makers were left with the reality that two would become one. That is, only one club could ever win the league. You don’t have to be clairvoyant to see that sponsorship would fall away, tv rights would diminish in value. Celtic’s own attendances might drop (and they did).

    In my view, the options were thus:

    ‘Punish’ rangers in a manner that would ensure only one club could ever win our league;

    ‘Punish’ rangers but leave them an avenue to rebuild and eventually get back to a two-team league;

    Find rangers guilty of all their misdeeds, but NOT punish them to the full, allowing them to challenge in a few years;

    Cover things up and hope they bounce back.

    Now, while I believe that a great opportunity has been missed to cleanse our game…..a one team league is not a long-term option.

    So, how do we cleanse our game, make sure the cheating never happens again, get a sense of ‘justice’……and have a league that has some modicum of competition?

    Those are just some of the competing realities that we face.
