Charlie is back, did he ever go away?

673

So Charlie’s back.  Did he ever really go away? I suspect not.  Sevco Scotland/The Rangers FC/Rangers International is Charles Green’s project.  He was the guy who picked the pieces up from the Rangers liquidator.

He was the guy, through liberal use of words like ‘bigotry’, ‘No surrender’ and ‘Dallas Cowboys’ managed to convince thousands of people to buy into a version of reality which convinced them to spend money.

He cut a deal with the compliant Ally McCoist to shift tickets in 2012, then did the same with Walter Smith in 2013, and co-opted a variety of flunkies to the cause along the way.  The £22m raised at an IPO was down to him.  No one else would have been able to achieve the latter feat, and he is needed again.

The move only appears audacious to those who have not been paying attention.  When Green bought Rangers assets two years ago, the game was up.  Those assets would be bled green, white and gold in order to provide as large a return on investment as possible.  Nothing has changed.

What is needed at Ibrox right now is someone to pitch up saying, “Bigotry, No surrender, forget what I said earlier, it’s the same club, now buy your ticket, you tell them Ally/Walter/whoever next”.  Charlie is perfect for this job.

The reality that existed pre-2012 is gone.  That club’s assets were bought from a liquidator and are now masquerading around the lower leagues of Scottish football.  Those who stepped forward, paid their money, and in doing so, actually gave thousands of people a club to support, are in charge – as is their right.

This is not a good thing if you have an affinity with that club, but it’s better than having Ibrox “razed to the ground” (remember Bomber Brown’s warning), so no matter what fans think of Charles Green, it’s time to accept his reality: Rangers were liquidated, fans were not organised, wealthy fans declined to step forward, the assets were bought by people who WILL make a financial return and Charles Green is one of the few people with an idea of how to deliver this.

Agree wholeheartedly Chiles is a complete and utter Richard. Thinks if you say something long enough and animatedly then people will take you seriously. How wrong is he?

First time I’ve ever agreed with AC

    Mueller should be punished too

And he made a decent point about the American market dissing ” soccer ” for being a girls sport

  4. Mueller awarded BAFTA for his face holding portrayal of a man chibbed.

Pepe awarded Gotcha by Ant and Dec for reaction to Mueller.

Football the loser in theatre of cheats.

Just seem the sending off and I agree with Chiles.”IT’s part of the game?” I’m fed up watching these sort of things. One of Larsson’s greatest abilities was to get in front of his man and then get hacked, takes courage.I remember Lennon’s collapse when Juanjo hardly looked at him, embarrassing and lets not forget Lovenkrands near death experience when Thompson glanced his way. When you pay £40-50 for a ticket and someone cheats to remove an opposition player making the game less competitive,it’s like purchasing players that you can’t afford to pay for or Oldco as it’s more commonly known.

  9. I’m loving the Fatherland humphin Portugal, a durty cynical yet talented side and have had many such like for years. I’ve never liked them since they kicked Pele out of the tournament in 1966.

FIFA are desperate to sell the game to the USA

USA fans are not impressed with the play acting, following about nonsense ……a country used to the NFL tough guys , baseball and NBA probably have difficulty in accepting the continental cheating

Ruins the game … FIFA need to sort it out

Germany using this as a training match ….Muller running about with his socks rolled down as if he’s playing 5s with his pals

Portugal are another team full of preening peacocks, too busy with their tattoos, sixpacks, and coloured boots.

  15. I don’t think football needs more rules but if a player goes down like they have been shot maybe they should go off for 10 minutes to recover..

  16. If Pepe hadn’t reacted we’d be laughing at how farcical Mueller’s play-acting was, even the referee had decided there was nothing doing.

Pepe and only Pepe changed the whole complexion of that incident.

Chiles and Dixon used the incident once again to play the righteous indignation card, “that never happened in my game”, as if England are exemplars in fair play and it’s all Johnny Foreigners fault.

The two guys with by far the most international experience were shouted down.

The film “Goal” about the 1966 Cup started with shots of the Portugese hacking Pele. It was as bad as anything Jinky had to suffer. I too have detested them ever since.

  19. theglasgowcelticway on

Seen players going head to head plenty of times it only becomes an issue when one decides there’s room for cheating in the incident.Suppose cheating is part of the game, two players putting their hands up asking for a throw in?one’s not telling the truth, however, there’s something about getting a player sent off because of going head to head that riles me.

  20. Portuguese fans deserve better than Pepe. Accident waiting to happen. Can’t condone what Muller did but Pepes reaction let not only his team mates but the Portuguese supporters down as well. Represents all that is wrong with football, overpaid permanently snarling, plastic hard man.

Isnt Pele on record as saying that once they realised he was injured, given that there were no substitutions , that they pretty much left him alone and didn’t tackle after that, for which he was in fact pretty grateful?

Could just be imagining that ,of course.
