Cheers, Magners

920

Sponsorship income is harder and harder to find so securing an improved shirt deal, while others flap to secure lesser deals, is a genuine result for the Celtic commercial team.  Irish cider maker, Magners, will have their name of the Celtic shirt for three years from this summer.

This will be the first time Celtic does not share the name on their shirts with another Scottish club since the 1990s, apart from a brief period during 2012, in the weeks between Rangers being assigned to liquidation and a successor coming into existence.

The significant amount of coverage outside Scotland as a result of this season’s Champions League qualification will no doubt have contributed to Magners’ decision, as will the reputation of Celtic fans to toast their Irish heritage in good nature.

Let’s hope club, fans and sponsor can work to make this a long and successful partnership.

Yes, it’s a great website. I have subscribed to LRB for several years now and it is mailed to me every fortnight here in Oz. A fantastic read.

My claim to fame . . . I babysat Sheena Orr when she was a wee lassie in Bellshill. At least my girfriend did and I went along for the ride, so to speak. The poor wee thing loved my jokes too. Sheena that is, not the girfriend, whose name was Bernadette and she loved me to sing Celtic songs to her.

An inspired piece of marketing by our Club.

    Triple purpose.

The Irish economy could do with a bung.

Celtic must maximise the return from our global brand.

Many Tims are not averse to a wee bevy. In moderation, naturally.

A palpable hit for our custodians.

    Reflected in the feedback.

Ha..a..a..ap,hap hap hap hap hap happy talk.

Personally,I am proud to say that I ignore advertising.

I only drink Guinness because it`s good for me.

  4. Good morning all (and wakey wakey!) from East Kilbride where, today, I’m afraid that it’s far too foggy to see what the weather’s like! Feels a bit cold.

Morning cqn. Still, dampish and mild in Morayshire. Lusk mostly but here goes.

Great news about magners and the addition of Gerson (sp).

Auldheid ( I think)analysed a telegraph article yesterday arriving at the conclusion that Celtic are effectively bankrolling the rest of Scottish football as an alturistic gesture and as an insurance to ensure that we either have a leagie to play in, or miraculously get an oportunity to jump into a bigger pond, the likelyhood that our governing bodies would be well disposed to our exit having financial security courtesy of a decent drop down from the hoops.

    Good analysis as usual.

PL for once has alnost universal approval on CQN. Even neganon seemed impressed.

I love all this happy clapping.

The other blinder currently being played by PL is his smoking out of Charles Green. He has carefully laid a series of small charges. Last ever derby, refusal to even rise to jabba’s bait, the subtle understated stand alone belief. With, it seems each passing day, a crazier and more desperate rethoric eminating from Green and Grima, PL is playing them like a trout.

just need to sort out Ogilvie and the refs and the media and government and judiciary and we’ll be unstopable.

  6. Morning,

I see the Sun is hurting badly and barely mentions the new sponsorship and does not mention at all the money Celtic are sacrificing to help Scottish Football.

    Good morning CQNers,

    A Magnernanimous gesture by Celtic.

I’d just like to add my admiration for the way Peter Lawwell and Celtic have conducted themselves in the recent days and months, it’s an example to all how to rise above those who conduct their business through tabloid headlines.

Just a thought – it’s predicted that by 2050 we will see a united Ireland, where do you think those protestant folk deserting Northern Ireland now and over the forthcoming years will find a natural home?

    Scotland should be afraid.

Good morning fellow Celts- mild enough for cycling in January -not often that happens in oul’ Renfrewshire :-)

Something of a mid-season feelgood factor yesterday- with new sponsorship deal and PL’s thinly disguised derision and contempt for Chuckles’ latest boorish, blurting, bollox

  10. Perhaps old Chuckles has thrown his toys out the pram is because he has promised his summer signings (Black, Shiels, Templeton, Sandaza, Kyle) that they would be in second tier at worst next season!!

  11. Listening to Sportsound on way home last night, they had chairmen of Alloa, Falkirk and C’beath on talking about reconstruction. An interesting comment from the Alloa chairman, not picked up by the host, and bearing in mind his secretary was party to the reconstruction talks. He said that his club which is currently 2nd in Div 2, and who you would think would be the 24th team in the 2 x 12 top two leagues, understand that they will not get automatic promotion to the 2nd flight and will require to take part in some sort of play off games. Now if the current top 12 and 9 from Div 1 are guaranteed entry that leaves 3 spaces up for grabs. Div 2 champions will take one of the places, who will be involved in play offs for other 2 spots. Bottom of Div 1 & 2nd in Div 2 obviously, but who will they play? Champions of Div 3 per chance???

Is it mere co incidence that all this trouble over by started just after Charles Green visited to drum up support for the Zombie share issue?

I think we should be told.

  13. Morning all. Red sky at morning????

I see the BBC Sport (Scottish and National) are giving the impression that they will not gain access to the second tier if they win the third division this year and that is why they want to move from Scottish football. They, of course, as people should be made aware currently play in the 4th tier. Spin, spin, spin.

I see our usual nightshift posters have largely had the night off,and that peace and serenity reign.

Blinkin’ F-R-E-E-Z-I-N’ here in Kilwinning, might have to escape for a few winter-warmers later.

And to see whether The Victoria Bar still has Magners on draft…..

(Honest,Mum,it’s pure research,it has to be done.)

  17. Right !

    Time to get serious…..

    The league reconstruction talks(lol) have provided a convenient – smokescreen/decoy –

for the latest fast one to be pulled by SPLOB.

As he sits there telling us – “….the Champions League is the place to be…blah, blah…etc…”

On the one hand – it looks good

    New sponsors

    Rolling in CL dough

    Books well balanced etc….

On the other hand – Yer at it ! imo

All these millions and yet more millions and, guess what ? we’re pursuing yet more

    free-transfers bosmans loans etc….

Peter – Buying in these types of players is probably THEE main reason why – CP is

almost half/empty every second week !?!?!

Where the F### is all this money that is being generated ?

You/Celtic FC lost my financial input to the club when, the /thatcher types of cuts were

carried out on the playing side with the appointment of CEO’s dream manager – WGS !

Thatcher types of cuts like – Bobo being forced to sit in the stand(in an attempt to scunner him oot the door) whilst, WE were forced to watch – club captain Stephen McManus being bullied off the pitch by the likes of – Daniel Cousan and even Sebo in ‘Walters’ return to CP when Ehiogh scored the overhead kick.

I’ve not got the time to list them all but – I’m sure you get my drift.

When will yeez all waken up and SEE what is going on here ?

I know i’ll be caned for this but – so what ?

If I can make at least one Celtic fan open his eyes to what is going on here

then i’ll come on here every day to recieve my caning. Bring it on!

    Hail Hail

Is Kris Commons still a pudding?

You’ll get a more receptive audience at the DR. They like your kind of Celtic fan there.

I’d respectfully suggest that the level of logic, deduction and evidence providing that most posters use to back up their points is not in your comfort zone.

But there is still a slot for you as the Pet Tim on the DR hotline. You can be like Lawrie on Radio Clyde.

  19. Good morning from cloudy Manchester.

    Looks like a foggy Glasgow.

    Alex Rae live from Ipox.

Got to say Chuckles and Sky have managed to take the limelight off the new Sponsorship at Celtic.

More importantly has avoided the question of who sponsors Newco.

A caller on the DR hotline – challenged me last week for my comments about K. Commons

    I called him a numpty !

The caller said that – “KC was our most creative player !”

I called Keevins on Monday to point out that – “Celtic had just scored 1 goal in 3 hours of football v’s M/well ?”

Needless to say….my call didn’t make the selection for the paper.

Gary Hooper had 1 clear chance in 2 games and put it away.

I also said in my original poit in the DR that – “Celtic should sign Ryan Fraser from Aberdeen as the kid plays football the Celtic way.”

You see….when Jame Forrest is injured – we don’t make chances.

When JF is oot the team…all the Celticness goes with him. imo
