Chill your jets. Far better to win and score five goals in a preseason friendly than to lose, but these games are all about improving fitness, the score is the least important aspect. Notwithstanding that, I’m pleased Teemu Pukki showed some form in front of goal. I don’t think Celtic would stand in his way if he found a potential new employer, but if he remains with us this season, his pace is likely to sit comfortably with the Ronny Deila model.
After missing the bulk of the last two Champions League campaigns through injury and Brazilian diving, news that Scott Brown will miss an extended period as a consequence of his hamstring injury is a blow to club and player.
It could have been worse. Celtic lost Scott for the bulk of last season’s Champions League on 1 October, when they were unable to compensate by tweeking the squad. Expectations are we will be without the player until October and we are only nine days into the transfer window. Lots of time to ensure we are at full strength when the meaty part of the season starts.
Brazil players and Phil Scolari turned up for yesterday’s semifinal wearing Naymar caps in the absence of their star striker. Their Excuse To Fail – emblazoned across their foreheads. Literally!
Add to the mix what can only be described as inappropriately enthusiastic anthem singing, while holding up the no. 10 shirt of, let’s remember, another player, not a fallen war hero, and you have all the ingredients for cloudy and unstructured thinking, instead of focus and awareness.
I don’t doubt this was all well-meaning but it was amateurish naivety. Players should turn up to a stadium with their game plan dominating their minds, not lamenting the loss of their best hope, having been consumed by national pride, one of mankind’s enduring fallacies. The Brazilian FA should immediately sack Roy Hodgson Big Phil.
Has all this Tour de Yorkshire business put you in the mood to get the bike out? If you why don’t you sign up for the Cardenden Cycle, which this year takes place on 6 September. You cycle from Celtic Park to the grave of John Thomson in Cardenden, Fife, a 64 mile journey. Full details are here.
If your cycling days are over, they are looking for drivers and stewards… if you’re available.

Agree with you both.
Kayal is a disappointment.
He looks the part bit rarely plays the part.
A player who has not fulfilled potential.
Injury prone when he isn’t anonymous.
Shows up in meaningless games then becomes the invisible man again.
McGregor, Henderson, Johannsen, Biton, in before him.
RD will prob use BK because of his experience (sic) though.
Curiously, at the time we are exploring who to replace Brown, a concurrent thread bemoans his failure to do his stuff in last seasons CL.
HH
My big problem with kayal is that in 2 v 2 defensive situations when his guy passes the ball he follows the ball – leaving his man to run into space for an unchallenged 1-2.
Straight off page 1 of the David Luiz Book of Defensive Positional Awareness volume 1.

RWE, agreed – I am not as concerned as some about Browns injury, we have options for the midfield and guys like Lustig/Ambrose/Matthews are versatile.

Chill mhan – chill.
We’re now talking about a new ‘boosted’ Kayal
not, the abandoned one after elbows assault on him.
Neil said the day after the assault that – “it was a 50-50 tackle, no malice intended, just one of these things.”
That told me that, Neil had begun to fold.
Too scared to address his player being assaulted?
Don’t forget, the assault on Kayal took place, just before
Healys assault on James Forrest.
Again – not a peep from the manager.
Kayal was a dynamic monster in midfield when he made his return
in the Sammi ne’erday game at ibrokes.
Kayal stood up to ‘all’ of the hun thugs in ‘that’ game and
sparked off the terrible abuse that Neil and his young family
had to endure cos, the huns couldny contemplate Neil winning
the title off the ‘myth’. imho
The dynamic monster is still inside Kayal, it looks as though
RD & JC are coaxing him oot tae play again. Surely thats a good
thing but, cos sumdy like me is pointing it out…folk will look the other
way and, miss a trick – to their cost. imho
Only saying – Hail Hail
So a guy we signed to score goals, has started scoring goals? Let’s get rid of him ………….brilliant.
jamesgang
His decision making is suspect & he has a trait of trying to force himself in front of opponents then collapsing at the first contact. He falls with his arms outstretched appealing for a foul. Usually hes ignored, we’ve lost possession & he’s on his erchie.
Cash in his ticket. Imho.

Not sure I’d give the goals scored in these games too much weight to be honest. That said I think Pukki is worth another chance to show what he can do in the competitive matches. Takes up good positions and has a good shot on him.

Scott missed most of the CL last season because he attempted to kick an opponent that was on already on the ground with his back turned to him.
As it is, I hope he makes a strong recovery, a huge player for Celtic imo.

winning captains 13:26 on 9 July, 2014
IN-FORM Finnish frontman Teemu Pukki celebrated his first hat-trick for Celtic and warned: “We must do better.”
Pukki was on fire against Austrians minnows LASK LInz in the Hoops’ 5-2 win on Tuesday.
However, the former Schalke hitman, who also netted in the 1-1 draw against Rapid Vienna on the tour, insisted there is a lot more to come from the SPFL champions.
The 24-year-old admitted: “The goals, of course, help my confidence and that is important for any striker.
“I know I just have to keep going and working hard at my game.
“The real games are coming soon, with KR Reykjavik next week, and I hope to be part of the first team and keep scoring goals.
“But I think we still have a lot to do to be ready for the European Championship ties and the other games that follow.”
Pukki, who cost £3million when ex-boss Neil Lennon signed him in August last year, also took time out to praise his team-mates for helping him claim his terrific threesome.
He added: “My colleagues made it easy with good passes for me and I just had to put them in.
“I was really pleased with the goals. I thought it was a good game, too.
“Even after Liam Henderson was sent off, we still kept playing well and scored more goals.”
Pukki, who claimed only seven goals from 26 appearances during the last campaign, could have fired himself into new manager Ronny Delia’s thoughts for the European tie in Finland on Tuesday.
Delia said: “Teemu is a good goalscorer who understands football.
“He is really showing that he wants to fight for the first 11.
“Is he now high on my thoughts for Reykjavik? Of course, he is

What do Pukkis make? Prizes. Nice to Teemu, to Teemu. Nice.
Wasn’t funny the first time.
We must sell our best players. If he’s threatening to become a goal scorer, then cash in asap. Strangle that ambition, quick !@

Stats consistently show that taller people feature disproportionately in printed posts and earn higher average salaries.
Sadly I’m a tall bassa who disproves that theory!
I really feel for your plight and hope the reduced amount they had to spend on longer long trousers helped to offset this terrible disadvantage.

I’ve said for a long time on here that, Pukki & Balde
were being badly managed and – they were. imho
Balde being brought on for the last 5 mins more often
than not, how can he be measured in that time?
I’ve also, often asked – how many chances did the strikers get?
Now, I know it’s only a couple of games but, if strikers arent getting
chances – what are they being judged on?
James Forrest was getting the ball with his back to goals with, two
or three agricultural types waiting for him to turn?
When Jinky played, he got the ball to run onto, plus, he had players
in the midfield who would need watching, therefore not isolating Jinky
as the ‘only’ threat and easier to gang-up on.
McGeady suffered from the same set-up as JF – two fullbacks doubling
up cos, they knew that celtic had nout to fear in midfield.
The introduction of Stefan J has altered the chemistry in the midfield to
being more dynamic as opposed to the, square passing p#sh that nulified
any threat from the wings. imho
The Ronnie guy seems to have ‘gunny’ Highway approach. I like that.
RD & JC have a guid box of tricks – CSC

I just don’t think we need to go and buy a new suit because we have a hole in our pocket.

Thanks. Was absolutely sure he was going to leave if Brazil didn’t win, but didn’t know what would happen if they did. Still not able to fully understand the commentators speaking in full flow, but will get there one day hopefully!
You’re pretty lucky to have missed being here for that game imo. Really felt for my wife, she was pretty distraught. The people at the bar where we watched it, were literally gobsmacked. Thankfully my son is too young to understand anything that happened. Broke my heart seeing some of those kids crying on TV. Still don’t know what I am going to say to some of my mates when I see them later.
Personally I would like to see Argentina win, but since that would make everyone here even more sad, I guess I hope the play Brazil in the 3rd place play off game, and Brazil win, might manage to cheer folk up a bit. ;-D
Thanks again and safe journey back.

I agree, never mind 5mins Balde was often brought on with 1/2 mins to go or in injury time – I could see the point if we were a goal up in an important game to waste time but very often the game was wrapped up. Felt for him a bit as what is he meant to do in that time? Lucky to get a touch of the ball!
