Christie and the congested central mid

375

The creative central midfield position is heavily congested at Celtic. Rom Togic and Stuart Armstrong are both enjoying landmark seasons, leaving Ryan Christie feeding off injury scraps. It’s not ideal for a player with over 100 top flight appearances under his belt.

Four months at Aberdeen would be ideal for the player’s development, and would perhaps arrest Aberdeen’s slide this season.

I think Ryan Christie could do a job for us and could develop into a really good player…… but…..

Take notice of Blantyre Kev’s post a few days ago where he pointed out that Celtic are now at the stage where they face paying Corporation Tax if they do not spend forthcoming and current profits.

I am not for being profligate with hard gotten gains and I would not be spending for spending’s sake, but we approach a point where the board may well sanction spending money on an altogether different class of player than those we have been used to or accustomed to.

Brendan can develop players, and I would love to see him develop Christie, but he might just be in a position where he can make real improvements in this squad with some really top notch acquisitions in which case guys like Ryan need real match time and must be match ready for the start of next season if he is to stand any chance of breaking through on a permanent basis.

I had hoped we were beginning to see his talents and strength recently and I have no doubt that he will be closely watched during his time at Aberdeen.

  2. The McKay saga is really interesting. What, precisely, is going on here? Only the DR is running with this. There are no follow ups anywhere else. No quotes from the RB Leipzig “insiders”. Nothing…

Seems to me there are 2 possibilities:

    1. Sevco are desperate to sell him. Really, really desperate. They need cash and he is their only remotely floggable asset. P Murray phones K Jacksie and Jacksie obliges by concocting a false story about a non-existant bid.

The aim is to put the player “psychologically” on the market – ie to get his name out there to prompt anyone who had ever scouted him to take another look. Some might even think: “Wow, Sevco have a Bundesliga-level player, he must be good, let’s put in a bid!”

Even if he doesn’t go for (snigger) £6million, he might be snapped up for a million quid – gold dust to Sevco in this fallow time of the season.

    2. It’s a Sevco branding exercise. They hate it – hate it – that we are the only club of any stature in Scotland. When people talk about transfer targets in Scotland no-one mentions them. No-one is about to “swoop” for Clint Hill. Even the Sheep have better players.

So putting a price tag on Bazza2 is the DR’s way of keeping their pet club/company relevant. It allows them to bracket them with us, as in “Old Firm face transfer dilemmas over young stars”- with little Barrie next to mighty Moussa (as if). It also has the effect of “boosting” Warbiola when no “bid” materialises, and the DR can run with “Warbs persuaded me to sign up to his revolution, says Bazza” headlines…

  3. Joleon Lescott has signed for Sunderland.

I’m beginning to think we really dodged a bullet with Moysie…

Joleon Lescott has signed for Sunderland.

I’m beginning to think we really dodged a bullet with Moysie…

    ————

Nothing against the guy but no Man U fans wanted him, no Sunderland fans wanted him and now Celtic fans wanted him.

Moyes seems to make a bad decision at every turn but continue to be well rewarded.

I’d guess he will retire once Sunderland go down, surely :O)

  5. I would be willing to wager that Moyes has well over £10 mill squirreled away, no bad for a serial failure, thankfully the great moustachioed one saw sense and went for Brendan, a proper manager, Moyes would have been failure again had he been our manager, of that I have no doubt, he is brutal imo.

  6. Italiabhoy

My understanding is that both Moyes and Brendan put their names forward for the Celtic job and were subsequently interviewed. Celtic opted for the latter.

I think every Tim would agree that the club made the right decision.

  7. ItaliaBhoy- file the Mackay nonsense with the Dallas Cowboys BS, they are desperate to be seen as a big club, the Laptop Loyal indulge them every day HH

  10. David Moyes just isn’t very good. Do you or did you see Everton fans lamenting his departure? Fergie lumbered Man U with him because he didn’t want Maurinho following him. He left a poor Utd team as well to his successor. Brendan Rodgers was highly regarded by Maurinho. His teams at Swansea and Liverpool were exciting, and that has continued at Celtic. WE are lucky to have him.

He could, in my opinion, manage Barca or Real Madrid and improve them.

Hell, he might even be on a par with the mighty Warbs!

I would like Celtic to put in a £250,000 bid for the wee Tim Barrie. A bid a bit above his true value. Then loan him to Aberdeen wi Ryan.

My mammy’s name is Mary. Everyone knows her as Molly. In her primary class in Saint Mary’s Maryhill in the 40’s, there were 10 other Marys in her class. All were given nicknames that stuck. I wonder if my mammy got her nickname fae the newsagent she lived beside in Shawpark Street? :)

I went through a redundancy many years ago, so my knowledge is not current.

The Union should definitely be your wife’s first port of call.

There is a statutory consultation process that must be adhered to, and a workers rep (usually shop steward or union official) is included in this.

Her contract of employment may contain specific references to redundancy. I think the minimum amount of redundancy money is 1.5 days salary per month of service, at least it used to be.

If redundancy is not universal, the number of redundancies required will be confirmed after or during he consultation period. Initially the company may seek to release the required number of employees, by means of voluntary redundancy, if more are required after that then compulsory redundancies will be required.

I was lucky, I was planning leaving that job anyway, so opted for voluntary redundancy, which was a few grand, I had worked there about four years. A mate wasn’t so lucky however, he had left the job, chasing after a reconciliation with his ex wife, after nearly thirty years of service for the company. The redundancy consultation began a matter of weeks after he had finished work with the company, so he got nada. He is back working there now, on inferior terms after the reconciliation with his ex wife failed….. lucky white heather.

I hope things work out well for your wife, however you want it to fall.

  26. I’vehadtochangemyname – the union is the best port of call.

It’s hard to be specific on here – there are statutory procedures etc but there may also be workplace agreements etc which the union can advise on and they will take members through it and where possible appeal/ fight if they think they can win.

It’s a horrible thing and I wish you both well through it.
