Christie and the congested central mid

375

The creative central midfield position is heavily congested at Celtic. Rom Togic and Stuart Armstrong are both enjoying landmark seasons, leaving Ryan Christie feeding off injury scraps. It’s not ideal for a player with over 100 top flight appearances under his belt.

Four months at Aberdeen would be ideal for the player’s development, and would perhaps arrest Aberdeen’s slide this season.

    Morning,all.

One of our finest is marooned in Yeovil for a bit and would like some assistance tracking down a reasonably near bar for the match on Sunday.

Closest I could give him was Weymouth or Bristol,so he might have to borrow one of those helicopter things they have down there!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was in the wonderful city of Berlin last week and on the Monday i had the misfortune of being in one of my favourite bars when around 30 Sevconians appeared and polluted the atmosphere with their usual songs of hate…they just cannot help themselves.I was looking forward to a good night as the bar is open til 4 am but needless to say we made a hasty retreat and went back to our hotel bar.It was a horrible thought that due to our accents the locals may have thought we were fans of Sevco despite our boyish good looks and impeccable manners.

While you are on, I have been given a loan of programmes from the European Youth Cup of 1974 and 1975 which involved the Celtic Youth team of the time, some European outfits and local youth teams including Eastercraigs – probably too young for your time but let me know if you want a copy made of the pics while I have them- no names are given underneath and the faces are not too clear- even the Celts team has many I would not know.

Good morning Proudbhoy…I have visited Berlin on many occasions and enjoy soaking in the atmosphere of the place.I usually stay in Alexanderplatz and mainly walk along the Unter der Linden along to the Brandenburg gate then to Potsdamer Platz. There is an excellent Bar at Frederikstrasse station called the Berliner Republic which has a great range of draft beers and Berlin style food.I also frequent the Carambar at Alexanderplatz station which is very lively every night open to 6am and does Warsteiner on draft.Cracking Italian restaurant just along from there too facing the television tower on the corner. Some great clubs to..club weekend and 40 Seconds also The Matrix.I nipped on the train from Alexanderplatz to Frankfurt (Oder) where you can walk over the bridge into Slubice Poland not the most exciting place but an interesting way to spend a morning or afternoon.Museum island is also a very interesting area for a bit of culture.Great transport system a day ticket is €7.50 and you can use the S Bahn trams and buses…have a great time and excuse my spelling.

And did she not obtain, or attempt to obtain, a court order banning publication of this information?

I think it was on the basis that her orientation, or the variability thereof, was a private matter.

Fair enough. It’s not like she uses her sexuality to enhance her public profile or further her media career.

TD — I used to think like you that Burns was a waster, a mason, an establishment figure and generally someone with whom I wanted no connection.

Then I did a bit of reading and research, went to the odd Burns supper, some of which were dreadful and attended by the worst of toadies, and found out I was completely wrong.

If ever any man had their character more officially assassinated by the establishment after their death, then it was Robert Burns.

Various well known poets and artists came to visit Jean Armour after his death and warned her that her husband’s memory was about to be reduced to that of a drinking womanising letch at the behest of Robert Pitt.

Pitt perosnally authosrised the payment of money to all the Burns family as a pay off to prevent them from criticising the offical biography of Robert Burns which was re-printed and edited no less than 9 times within 20 years or his death with every reprint containing a slightly different version of his life – some bits more salacious and other bits corrected because the family were kicking up a fuss.

The reason for this Government led defamation was that Burns was born only 14 years after Culloden when the Duke of Cumberland was sent north to clear out the Highlands of all that was revolutionary and Scottish. I will leave it at that but “Sweet William” cleared out people on other grounds as well.

Burns’ poetry was written in a dialect that was virtually unlawful. He published many of his poems anonymously because they were just to dangerous in their sentiments to publish openly.

He wanted American revolution, praised Madam Guillotine, had no time for the Calvinist Church of Scotland and declared that all men were equal irrespective of rank, station, wealth or religion.

When he died only 4 decades after Culloden, 10,000 people turned up for his funeral in Dumfries and another 2,000 were kept outside the town by the Army. When this was reported in London, the Government of the day feared that his death would spark another rising and so they deliberately set about to besmirch the Burns reputation and so portrayed a picture of him that was intended to divide.

He was portrayed as the drinking, womanising, friend of kirk and gentry — the absolute opposite of a revolutionary and someone who had virtually abandoned the poor for fame and riches. He was then portrayed as the rich man’s poodle, fetted around Edinburgh by the middle classes and the respectable elders of the Kirk. To this was then added the “Masonic” line — in Burns’ day a Masonic meeting was more like a drinking club – and while he has spent time in his youth at Masonic meetings there is little or no evidence at all that he was in any way an active Mason or involved in anything like that.

In fact his written verse etc and anti-crown leanings more or less guaranteed that he would be far from welcome within the masonic pro-crown fraternity.

I never fancied Robert Burns the man at all because I swallowed the offical line but ask yourself why it is in this country most people can only name about a dozen of his songs and poems? It is because many of his more radical writings were never to be encouraged or referred to regularly or openly.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of any man, but I radically re-thought my view of Robert Burns because, in my opinion, here is a man whose entire life history was hijacked and moulded because he spoke and almost preached a radical truth and the “maisters” of the day saw fit to paint him in a wholly false way for fear that his “equality for all” mantra would catch on, take hold and lead to a rising of the common people.

And in the masonic halls of London and elsewhere they were just not willing to wear that or allow it to happen, and so they set about destroying Burns’ reputation very effectively.

Had they not done so, his legend as a radical and someone whose words could have inspired revolution could have grown, flourished and led to all sorts of social problems.

Better to portray him as a womanising, drunkard and gadabout and a poodle of the kirk’s middle classes.

Nothing could have been further from the truth.
