Christie can determine his price

315

Hampden Park has been the venue for sixteen consecutive wins in cup semis and finals for the Celtic  players ahead of the Scotland Euro 2020 game against Czech Republic there this afternoon.  I know for sure you have memories of great goals at the national stadium by Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Ryan Christie.  Each of them rise to the big occasion.

There is a good chance David Turnbull and Jack Hendry will be involved, as well as former players: David Marshall, Kieran Tierney and Stuart Armstrong, with former Celtic youth Andy Robertson sure to start.  Greg Taylor is with the squad but unlikely to force his way past Tierney and Robertson.

International football is not the same: we are conditioned for disappointment and an early exit, but this generation of Celtic players deserve to compete on the international stage.  In particular, I hope Ryan Christie shines.  He is on his way out the door, all that is to be determined is the price.

For me, apart from the constant gibberish,

McCoist’s most annoying habit is his overuse of “…ah huffty say…”. 😡😱

  2. Adams and Forrest made a big difference. Having two great left backs doesn’t fix the rest of the defence. I don’t see a great deal of McGinn nor Mctominey but neither greatly impressed me. Always think McGinn lacks a bit of composure. Is mcgregor (Sevco keeper) in the squad? Much as I dislike him, he’s the best of the three.

  3. Anyone seen enough of Motherwell Campbell, to say he’d be a good buy? Out of contract now

  4. Gene – fair comment, not sure why Clarke and Lenny think Christie is a player to play off a lone striker.

Looking ahead, Jack Hendry against Harry Kane should be interesting 😱

  5. Ziggydoc1, I believe mcshagger is sine died fae the national side after his drunken performance up at the Cameron House and follow up on the bench at hunden.

I’m sure he played again for Scotland after that – it was conveniently forgotten

Sevco goalie McGregor was banned from playing for Scotland after the drinking session with Barry Ferguson when he was sticking it up to the fans

How can the Board and Players be treated collectively but Coaching is defined solely as Neil Lennon?

Fair point- not all Board members are equally guilty- Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell have the most influence in that group- I plead trying to keep my posts shorter. I did not dfine Coaching as solely Neil Lennon; It is mainly Neil Lennon. But on match days, it is 100% down to Neil Lennon.

There is no comparison to be had between John Kennedy and groundsmen or tea ladies.

I hope this isn’t another instance of mistaking comparison with equation. There’s been a lot of that about recentky.

Not only is there A comparison , to be made, I can easily make several e.g.

Compared to the Tea Lady, John Kennedy is a better coach.

Compared to John Kennedy, the tea lady makes a fine cup of tea.

Compared to the tea Lady, John Kennedy has more Y chromosomes.

Compared to John Kennedy, the tea lady has to shave less often.

In short, the point being made is that there is a hierarchy of influence. The job of asst. Coach is to provide input on training and analysis, and to run training sessions (either as you design or more likely under the agreement of the Head Coach).

The Head Coach has sole responsibility for match day decisions and for the overall conduct of training and caoching sessions, even those not undertaken personally. He is responsible for accepting advice from asst. coaches and he is responsible for ignoring advice from asst. coaches. That is how it has always been; it is no different with Neil and John and Gavin than it is for Mourinho, Pep and Klopp and their teams of coaches.

  9. The reason clubs have to sell players who want to leave is evident.

    Ryan Christie

A want away decided to change his game to score more goals by shooting on sight. Unfortunately, his shooting from Range is not good and his game suffered, His want away clique talked their confidence away and the result was one of the worse Celtic seasons,

Going from poor club performances seldom improve at International level. Christie was poor and could not raise his performance level. Hooked at half time he now will not likely play again in this Tournament.

I now expect him to be back at Celtic as he will likely sign a pre contract to leave in January window. No fee for Celtic. Unlikely to make EPL

    Calum McGregor

Rumoured to be another want away, Getting dropped is good for us. He has been rested and not injured. He will likely be recalled for at least one of the games. His performance levels have dropped this season and as a disgruntaled player at celtic finds himself out the National team, Hopefully, his previous good record will result is someone paying big bucks probably Rodgers.

He was likely in the clique with Christie and their Celtic performances dropped at the same time.

    Greg Taylor

He will not start and will likely only get off the bench via Croatia. Not been good enough to sell so will be back next season, May find himself second choice behind Boli.

    David Turnball

Good for us that he got selected for the squad and good he didn’t play in this defeat, may get a chance in one of the other games, He has attracted interest from EPL and might be tempted to go for the money. For the same reason we might se;;.

Remember, in general, the players we want to sell wont receive the best offers. Its the ones we want to keep

    that others want to buy

    John Hendry

    Already Gone,

I still think he’s not good enough for us.

    James Forrest

He should have started. We clicked when James returned from Injury, Scotland improved today. Should start against England, I hope James doesn’t attract offers, A must stay player

  10. Sounds like mcgregor did play lagwe on, after being banned. I think it was Levein who brought him back. He retired from international duty in 2019. Probably the huns best player this year. Great keeper but utter dick 😉

I’m clearly not a fan of Steve Clarke (and agree with others that he made some odd decisions today) ….

… but actually felt a little bit sorry for him given the material he has to work with.

Guys with the technical ability of Armstrong and McGinn should represent the “low bar”.

Fairly decent players operating in a professional club environment bringing the benefit to the national team.

    Dykes?

    Hanley?

    O’Donnell?

    Dearie me.

PS – when typing “Dykes” the spell checker offered “Sykes”.

  19. Wembley will be like a top EPL team playing a Championship team…..the Scottish Championship. Watched a very organised Croatia team v England, although they lacked a cutting edge. Scotland will be lucky to get a goal in the group, let alone a point.

Poland score to equalise…looked like a double sclaff as the ball trickled by the keeper…was looking like a coupon buster in the 1st half
