Christie can determine his price

315

Hampden Park has been the venue for sixteen consecutive wins in cup semis and finals for the Celtic  players ahead of the Scotland Euro 2020 game against Czech Republic there this afternoon.  I know for sure you have memories of great goals at the national stadium by Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Ryan Christie.  Each of them rise to the big occasion.

There is a good chance David Turnbull and Jack Hendry will be involved, as well as former players: David Marshall, Kieran Tierney and Stuart Armstrong, with former Celtic youth Andy Robertson sure to start.  Greg Taylor is with the squad but unlikely to force his way past Tierney and Robertson.

International football is not the same: we are conditioned for disappointment and an early exit, but this generation of Celtic players deserve to compete on the international stage.  In particular, I hope Ryan Christie shines.  He is on his way out the door, all that is to be determined is the price.

  4. Scotland football team will not be the only losers – public health and the hospitality industry in Glasgow will, like the team, be hit for six.

This is what happens when you have a bunch of Nationalist zealots in charge who ALWAYS put the CAUSE before people. This disgraceful flag-waving & fan-zone drinking propaganda exercise centred on the worst infected post-codes in the country, is, in it’s wilful stupidity, reminiscent of the emptying of the elderly out of hospital wards in the petri-dish care home environment at the start of the pandemic.

  7. Can’t see beyond one of the usual suspects winning this tournament, Spain, France, Germany or even Italy and (dare I say it, England). A lot of the teams have, 2,3 or 4 top notch players, whereas the usual suspects have 7,8 or 9. Looking forward to seeing Spain v Sweden tonight. Cracking 2nd goal by Slovakia

As much as I liked Harry when I was a boy, I doubt his shows have aged well.

Man, there were some ‘characters’ from yesteryear. Jimmy Clitheroe… Oh man, what a strange wee character. As was Charlie Drake, though he was funny.

Great news about the memorial. Long overdue.

Appreciate all the hard work and donations to make it happen but would it not be better situated at the Clydeside where so many arrived in Glasgow ?

  18. Spain making Sweden look old , slow and bad. I thought Spain had covid issues and had to play 2nd string? Wish this would’ve happened to Scotland

  19. Mikael was an amazing character for Celtic and an excellent player when at his peak.

The fact Kieran was on the other side probably clouded judgements as Kieran was heading to the very Top.

Those 2 Big personalities left and I think we need to get Ballsy players in the team pronto.

  20. Schoolkids refused time off in East Renfrewshire to watch the Czechs piss take Scotland.

Fair play to the headteachers I say.

I only recall one occasion at school when a TV was brought into class and that was by Mrs Mac. For one reason or another she was very moved by the death of Lord Mountbatten to the extent that classes were suspended and the live broadcast was on.

The primary school in question was situated in the leafy suburbs of Newton Mearns however the incumbents were drawn as far away as Thornliebank. It made for an interesting mix.

Anyway, as the teacher struggled with the aerial to find us all a clearer view of the coffin et al we at the back, courtesy of some of the more street wise kids, started singing a ditty to the tune of “Ol MacDonald had a farm”,

I along with several others, paid for our insolence alright. Six of the best administered by our Headteacher no less. Worth it at the time, I’ll never forget our teachers face exploding in rage as most of the class blasted out,..

“Lord Mountbatten had a boat, E-I-E-I-O, And on that boat there was a bomb, E-I-E-I-O, with a boom boom here and a boom boom there, Lord Mountbatten every******where. Lord Mountbatten had a boat, E-I-E-I-O”.

  22. That first half was remiscent of many Celtic games. Spain dominant, far greater percentage of possession. Two or three good chances. Don`t take any then Sweden nearly score a farcical goal !

  23. Plenty of effort from Scotland today and a fair few chances but just not the split second composure to turn one or two into goals. As noted earlier Stevie Clarke got it wrong putting Ryan C up front, was never gonna work, though he did lay on the chance for Robertson in the first half. Just saw the second goal again, no matter how good the effort, Marshall should never have been spectating as far up the pitch as he was, and invited the effort on goal, on the empty goal that is. Not sure if I have ever seen a goalie there in open play, unless he actually had the ball himself. Which he didn’t.

  24. You cannot put a rope around the neck of an idea.

As much as I loved KT, Lustig is more of a legend. A real character and good player. We need more of his ilk back in the side.
