Christie following the Forrest, McGregor and Tierney path

278

As you may have noticed, Celtic had a disappointing transfer window.  No doubt as a direct consequence of this, Ryan Christie was not released for the final year of his contract, just as he had been for spells during each of his initial three seasons as a Celtic player.  He made 13 appearances for Celtic and 67 as a player on loan from the club.

Two months after the end of the transfer window and negotiations are underway on a deal to keep the player at the club beyond next year, deservedly so.

I would love to believe this was the plan all along, that we knew Ryan just needed to add those 20kg and he would be ready to be a creative fulcrum, but I suspect he was below radar and this season’s blossoming surprised everyone outside the Christie household.

At 23, the same age as Jack Hendry, he is still young enough to continue developing.  He is two years younger than Callum McGregor, whose fortunes he has linked with in recent weeks.  The prodigious football nations of Eastern Europe do not have the luxury of signing players from even the markets Celtic shop in.  Instead, they develop players like Ryan and Callum into the graduates who eventually travel west for money we cannot afford.

In a different era, Kieran Tierney would have left Celtic without getting sufficient first team opportunities.  Young talent once withered on the vine at Celtic.  Let’s hope Kieran, Callum and Ryan, like James Forrest before them, are part of an onward trend.

  1. I see we have a new debutant tomorrow night, just received this email –

“The Celtic Park lightshow is set to make its debut before tomorrow night’s crucial UEFA Europa League clash against RB Leipzig (November 8).

Please allow plenty of time for your journey and get to Celtic Park early to make sure that you are settled in your seat by 7:45pm before the lightshow gets underway.

Prepare for Paradise to be plunged into darkness, before being lit up like never before as we crank up the legendary atmosphere throughout the build up to kick-off at 8pm!

The health and safety of our supporters is paramount to Celtic Football Club and we have consulted industry specialists, a medical expert and Epilepsy Scotland who have given the lightshow their seal of approval.

The lightshow will contain no light sequences of unusual colours or frequency that would raise concerns about photosensitivity among the general public. All the sequences of lights adhere to the guidelines for lightshows and broadcast media, they have been used in other stadia without adverse effect, and have been approved for use in a public setting.

However, we would advise anyone who may find such lightshows uncomfortable to consider whether it is best for them to avoid being in the main stadium bowl during the show.

The lightshow will start shortly after 7:45pm tomorrow night and will finish shortly before the teams come out on to the pitch at 7:55pm.

Further technical information will be available online shortly.

We hope you enjoy the show.”

It’s a clear case of mistaken identity. Everyone but the referee can see it’s Neil Lennon.

  6. If anyone doubted my dubiety abou the summer transfer window, regards Brendan and ouresteemed scouting team, look nofurther than the latest transfer hot news.We are reportedly being strongly linked, with a “Wait for it”,Iranian,LEFT BACK.The mind boggles.

  7. Our Honduran left back wasn’t too shabby.Whenever we sign ANYONE then I wait and judge them on how they do for us. Too many “names” have joined us and let me down, quite a few “who he” folk have come in and done rather well.

All this talk about our board at the time and torbett it’s worth remembering that when the bunnet took over he only kept one member on, Tom Grant

    ######

its awfy strange why Fergus kept, Kevin Kelly and Jack McGinn on the board for a year or more, after he’d taken control ?

Then again, when it comes to the guy who said “Rangers shouldn’t be put out of the same league as Celtic” well, ah suppose that, money was more important than principles in McCann’s world.

    Anywye, more importantly…….

NORRIEM, sorry for your loss fella.

Norrie, so sad. I do know how sore you will be just now however remember the good times and take comfort and strength from your close friends and family. Cliches, I know but they are well intentioned Take care.

  13. As Ian St John once said after another Scotland at the World Cup, ” You would think we would get used to it.”

    Mine is BBC Scotland.

Opening the News with the Torbett story ,where they made sure Celtic were damned as much as possible, they later moved on to the Sports report.

Firstly, `RANGERS and celtic ` were preparing for tomorrow evenings` games.Next followed a detailed report of Sevco`s `Excellent European record this season` followed by footage of Sevco training and an interview with a Spartak/Russian journalist.

    Celtic? Nothing. Not a word.

Are they still banned from Ibrox ?

  14. Norrie…

Prayers will be offered and a candle lit in memory of your mother at Clonard monastery Belfast.

  16. Players involved in any European Super League would be banned from playing international football, including the World Cup, says Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

German publication Der Spiegel claimed top European clubs held secret talks to create a such a set-up by 2021.

The news magazine said leaked documents revealed clubs’ plans to leave their national leagues and associations.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46131361

  17. Perhaps it’s coincidental that some damaging revelations have come to light recently concerning Infantino. I suspect there may be a dirty war going on behind the scenes between UEFA/FIFA and the super Clubs.
