Christie following the Forrest, McGregor and Tierney path

278

As you may have noticed, Celtic had a disappointing transfer window.  No doubt as a direct consequence of this, Ryan Christie was not released for the final year of his contract, just as he had been for spells during each of his initial three seasons as a Celtic player.  He made 13 appearances for Celtic and 67 as a player on loan from the club.

Two months after the end of the transfer window and negotiations are underway on a deal to keep the player at the club beyond next year, deservedly so.

I would love to believe this was the plan all along, that we knew Ryan just needed to add those 20kg and he would be ready to be a creative fulcrum, but I suspect he was below radar and this season’s blossoming surprised everyone outside the Christie household.

At 23, the same age as Jack Hendry, he is still young enough to continue developing.  He is two years younger than Callum McGregor, whose fortunes he has linked with in recent weeks.  The prodigious football nations of Eastern Europe do not have the luxury of signing players from even the markets Celtic shop in.  Instead, they develop players like Ryan and Callum into the graduates who eventually travel west for money we cannot afford.

In a different era, Kieran Tierney would have left Celtic without getting sufficient first team opportunities.  Young talent once withered on the vine at Celtic.  Let’s hope Kieran, Callum and Ryan, like James Forrest before them, are part of an onward trend.

  1. My bets are doing Ok ish at half time tonight, everything apart from the Juve utd game is going to plan, I have it at over 2.5 goals as I couldn’t decide on anything else, I wish I had left it out, but as ever the greed gets to you, a fool and his money eh.

  2. TET,

I’m also still alive with mine, a treble of Benfica (1-0 up), Lyin (2-0) up and Juventus. So a 3-0 or 2-1 Juve win would do nicely for both of us ;-)

All my life I have been an advocate of single bets, bet a pound to win 10-20p is what it’s all about, but as said the greed gets to me, I wish I could just be happy with the 10-20 p, your bet is looking good, two more goals and mine is paying for Christmas ;-)

  13. MacJay

That’s why the bookie is a fat bassa :-)

At the end of the day it pays if you can be resolute, but the bookie is banking on the punters greed and by and large he is bang on, the punters who win more than they lose are barred from betting, so for them they just can’t lose.

It’s a mugs game tho, but I enjoy the buzz, imo it’s the worst addiction known to man, way worse than drugs and the like, what other thing gives you a buzz if you win, and a buzz if you lose, different I grant you but a buzz all the same.

  14. Cheers Jobo, so will I, just canny stop working, work harder since I stopped working than I ever did and actually enjoy it more now than I did when I had to, it makes sense to me :-)

    The ” worst addiction ” . Yes . The lure of ” money for nothing ” .

The pokies ( One armed bandits ) are a huge problem in Oz.

Causing widespread family distress often resulting in violence.

Attempts by decent politicians to restrict their use are usually stymied by the all powerful club owners lobby.

    And so it goes on.

  16. Paedophiles deliberately target organisations where children are around. If a priest can go through his duties each day, praying, saying mass hearing confession and preaching sermons to the congregation then involving himself in abusing children then there is no where that they cannot go.

Boys club football is an obvious target as are scouts and cubs. Volunteers give their time with the best of these intentions that’s why these people can hide behind genuine volunteers.

I coached Boys and Youths for years and we did Criminal Record checks for all our coaches. We also had a Code of Practise involving never to be on your own with a player. Two coaches to treat knocks on the park and no magic sponge but a cold water spray.

It is again about transparency and deal with issues in public and not behind closed doors.

SFA children did a good job in publicising the issue and advising on procedures.

  17. I just watched a hatchet job on Reporting Scotland by Chris MacLauchin. They called the club out as being behind Celtic Boys club and saying that a club with a triumphant past has also a dark past.

Shameful stuff, as if that wasn’t enough they’ve just done a feature on why “butcher” haig is really a hero. Skin crawling stuff.

  20. Bigbhoy, agree with you, that was a scandalous piece of ‘reporting’ but what else can we expect from McLaughlin? He can’t understand simple concepts like how ‘Rangers now’ is different from ‘Rangers then’, maybe he sees his application of ‘same clubbery’ as being somehow even-handed.

He makes my skin crawl. A poor excuse for a journalist. But then, we all know this.

Tragically, Absolutely 100% correct. This Broadcaster has plummeted to new depths recently. The non reporting of facts from Ibrox, ignoring very relevant information, suppressing lies and Court dealings, and now the elevating to sainthood and hero of a war criminal, has taken their bias and bigotry to a whole new level. Where will this end? How far can they go??

  24. HOT SMOKED on 7TH NOVEMBER 2018 2:23 PM

One of the really sad aspect of Torbett`s crimes is that , in Scotland, it is more important to blacken the name of Celtic by association than it is to condemn the perpetrator or to highlight measures that have been taken to prevent any further abuse.
