CHRISTIE’S EURO TARGET

RYAN CHRISTIE has set his sights on impressing Brendan Rodgers and getting involved in special European nights with Celtic.

The Highlander was in the stand as a fan when Neil Lennon’s side pulled off the remarkable 2-1 win over Barcelona in 2012.

Christie, signed from Inverness Caley Thistle for £500,000 last summer, is now within touching distance of the big stage as the Hoops prepare to kick off their qualifying campaign against Lincoln Red Imps in Gibraltar tomorrow.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who started Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Maribor, said: “The Champions League was a big part of coming here and getting the club back to where we think we belong.

“Every player wants to play a part in that and have an impact at Champions League level.

“I have been at Celtic Park as a fan a few times for the big nights. When you are sitting there it’s more of a dream to be involved rather than a target. The Barcelona game sticks in the memory. As a young player you think: ‘Wow, I wish that was me.’

“Beating one of the best teams in the world in front of 60,000 people, It would be incredible to have that opportunity. That’s why these qualifiers are such big games.”
