CIFTCI SCORES – AT LAST!

1

CELTIC’S £1.5million misfit Nadir Ciftci has scored his first goal for Plymouth – in his seventh appearance.

The Turkish international striker, who agreed a season-long loan at the League One side in the summer, came off the subs’ bench to net the vital strike in Tuesday’s 5-3 penalty-kick shoot-out in the Checkatrade Trophy triumph over Exeter City,

After extra-time, the game was still tied at 2-2 when Ciftci took the fifth kick for Derek Adams’ side and cheekily chipped the ball down the middle as the keeper went the wrong way.

Argyle triumphed 5-3 in the spot-kick showdown, but it was former Scotland Under-21 star Gregg Wylde who earned praise afterwards from the former Ross County gaffer.

Adams said: “We work on set-plays quite a bit and Gregg has got very good delivery with his left foot.

“He puts the ball into a great area for the attacking players to go and head the ball.

“His cross for Ryan Edwards’ equaliser was excellent. It was a well-timed run and a good header.”
