Starting with a blank sheet of paper and a player found guilty of biting an opponent, I’d struggle to justify a punishment less than 6 games. It’s by no means the worst thing that happens on a football field, or the most dangerous, but it’s primitive, unhygienic and poses health risks.
Few of us have prior knowledge of Nadir Ciftci, so there’s little point in looking online for character references. The player was charged with biting an opponent. He denied the allegation but was found guilty by an SFA disciplinary panel yesterday. I’ve seen photos of Jim McAlister’s bite-sized leg wound and have no interest in hearing mitigating comment about what happened during the Dundee derby.
Despite this, Nadir is having a good month. He signed for Celtic, made his debut and potentially has five Champions League qualifiers to play between now and his domestic suspension concluding at the end of August (yes, six league games in August). If he’s a clever guy, he’ll force his way into the manager’s plans for those five games and never look back. If not, he’ll find his card marked, like a Dundonian leg.

I honestly can;t see why bowing his head whilst not moving is a problem.
James did not make a protest.
If he had turned to his right he would have turned his back and then it would have been a protest. As it was he did not move and bowed his head. How can you construe that as a protest? This is media driven and byou are falling into the trap of labelling James as some rebel rouser making a big protest.
He has done nothing and gave the anthem respect.
Any other non Brit in the team could have done the exact same. It’s not their anthem why should they act like it is?

Instead of saying : If you don`t like it here etc, is it not more accurate to say:
“I do like it here. I just want to make it better.”

Actually I agree with you 100% – my “if you don’t like it” was rhetorical.
Millions of Irish people have moved to the UK over the last 150/160 years, as they have done to USA – the vast majority don’t feel the need to go out of their way to denigrate the country in which they live and work.
Can you imagine if James McLean, who is entitled to his own views, overtly and publically disrespected the American anthem/flag, if he was living and working there – ‘his feet would not touch the ground’
blantyretim is praying for the Knox family
He did show a quiet respect by bowing his head.
He could have spent the anthem jumping up and down warming up or spitting into the turf or doing any number of things that could have been deemed disrespectful. I have never heard of anyone being called disrespectful for bowing their head at a foreign anthem.

Re Halliday
I can totally relate to what he is saying.
I personally trace my love of Celtic back to when I was a sperm cell inside my da when he was at the 7-1 game.
After that experience, there is no way I could support anyone else.
LB
True.
Thompson Twin does not annoy me, posters who respond to him, regardless of the nature of the response do. He is a genuine troll and gets off on provoking a reaction. He will continue to pollute the blog until he is frozen out. The only way to freeze him out is to totally ignore him.
I realise that when he is finally frozen out, he will come back with a new name & persona but that is the internet. This guy has been on before in a number of different guizes and is likely to keep it going until the entire blog conforms to a policy of “Don’t feed the Trolls”.

Yes when he ‘burst’ on the scene, he looked a top notch young player, with a stellar future.
Is it the case that he has a ‘chip on the shoulder’ agenda, that has seen him not being able to fulfil his early promise?
At work we all have to do and say things we’d rather not – he is in a highly-paid job – why not screw the nut, or quit sport and go into politics – just like Jim Spence?
Has the Bigot Dome been deemed fit & proper for the upcoming season, who signed off on the Certificate of Occupancy……..??

Take better than you, and those like you on here, to freeze me out.
Are you fascist, and do NOT tolerate any views but your own?
Halliday said: “Players come over from Madrid and say they were brought up Rangers fans but I was. If you’re raised on the Copland Road there isn’t much choice about which team you’ll support.
*tell that to Frank Haffey
James McClean has every right not to look at the British flag and acknowledge the anthem. There were no histrionics from him and he protested silently in a dignified manner. I believe he comes from the Creggan and he’ll be aware of the acts carried out by the British war machine in the name of that flag, for their commander in chief, in his town and district.
Only the uneducated in history would disagree with his right.

Still LOL
Exactly what is a TROLL – is it someone who does not agree with you?
With your extreme bitterness, you are mischievous troll/goblin.
I’ve been watching the Pan Am football games and all South/Central American ad Caribbean players all sing their national anthem. Not so the Canadians, both men and women. No outcry over here abut that.

GROW UP!
Really looking forward to game tomorrow night. Hopefully the bhoys will be sharper with the benefit of last weeks game and the Spanish friendly. The only slight worry is the potential state of the pitch. One would imagine that there must be some minimum standard to obtain a licence to play in European Competitions.

Mark Warburton – our hero in ordinary clothing.

As excited for tonight’s game as any I can remember. Probably since Zenit.
Maybe it’s the horrible last 3 and a bit years, but it’s good to be looking forward to an actual game and have genuine excitement about the year ahead.
MW doesn’t look much like a superhero, but he’s quietly come in and gone about his business, every time he speaks, he oozes class. The man is a leader. When he speaks, people listen. He has that Je Ne sais quoi about him. A leader who has cut it in the real world and one that is cut throat and survived. That kind of pressure cexperience can only be good for him as he steps into one of the most pressured jobs in football.
He’s used his extensive knowledge and contacts to bring in some quality signings to replace the deadwood that we’ve watched for 3 seasons.
This season, the rag tag bunch that MW has ou,led together, shown some TLC and nurtured will be, I have no doubt, be champions and who knows? Maybe with one, 2 or, mammy daddy help me, 3 other baubles to their name.
Ok, I maybe. Got carried away with that last line, but I truly believe we are at the start of a wonderful journey. I just hope we can keep Mr Warburton to see it through to its natural conclusion. Rangers as SPFL champions and in the Champions League again.

Likewise looking forward to tomorrow’s game, with Griffs hat trick and big Nadirs domestic ban not sure how Ronny will approach it, quietly confident about CL qualifying this season as I think the players themselves will want to make up for last seasons early shockers, a clean sheet would do but a few goals would be nice as well
It is sad to see the idiot that is false flag Alfie Thompson receive so many responses on CQN to his agenda driven drivel…………. His work is done!

the biggest problem we face tomorrow night,in all honesty
I’ll be disappointed if we don’t win on the night.

Got to start with Griff, as the wee mhan can score a goal out of nothing, and his confidence will be high after the weekend. Looking forward to it.
HH
Gerry, We need to go forward and stick one in the back of their net. That will kill tie and we can relax and enjoy the game, A little surprised that Janko was left behind and is due to play with Development squad tonight against Raith.
Absolutely roy, Griff should start, he is without doubt the best striker we have, Ciftci may well become a better one but at the moment Griff is number one.
p.s. Again thanks for all the brilliant links you post. Most of the time I only get to watch them next day on a scroll back so can’t respond in real time.
Good Afternoon.

I’m confused – on one hand you insist he did no nothing wrong yet you bring in ‘Any other non-Brits had done the exact same…..it’s not their anthem why should they act like it is’?
Did he act in a manner that would suggest he was less than respectful for God Save the Queen?
If he did my advice stands.
If he didn’t then I’m unsure where you’re coming from?
