Ciftci, the bite and having his card marked

649

Starting with a blank sheet of paper and a player found guilty of biting an opponent, I’d struggle to justify a punishment less than 6 games.  It’s by no means the worst thing that happens on a football field, or the most dangerous, but it’s primitive, unhygienic and poses health risks.

Few of us have prior knowledge of Nadir Ciftci, so there’s little point in looking online for character references.  The player was charged with biting an opponent.  He denied the allegation but was found guilty by an SFA disciplinary panel yesterday.  I’ve seen photos of Jim McAlister’s bite-sized leg wound and have no interest in hearing mitigating comment about what happened during the Dundee derby.

Despite this, Nadir is having a good month.  He signed for Celtic, made his debut and potentially has five Champions League qualifiers to play between now and his domestic suspension concluding at the end of August (yes, six league games in August).  If he’s a clever guy, he’ll force his way into the manager’s plans for those five games and never look back.  If not, he’ll find his card marked, like a Dundonian leg.

  1. WBA have got previous -they hunted Anelka for an anti-semetic goal celebration .

Only it wasnt anti-semetic . That was a witch-hunt and now they’re going after MacClean. Crazy backward stuff.

Seriously, we need – and I am sure we will get – a professional display tomorrow. Champions of Iceland will be no mugs at home. Any win for us tomorrow will merit a wee clebration. Qualifying for next round will still merit a wee bottle or two of Tavel…

The huns do have their fare share of gullible boneheads who are drip fed daily crap by the msm. However I’d say the majority have taken the default position of ‘no surrender’ as it were, that is, whilst in full knowledge of the fact that their club died, cannot ever admit it. That denial in itself makes them out even more stupid that the ones who really don’t get it.

Then there’s the odd one who slips up, like the guy a few weeks back who under pressure from my questioning, finally buckled with… ‘OK we did die…., but so did yous in 94’.

  5. Interesting stuff the discussion on punishment for players or clubs, why are clubs punished for their supporters behaviour but not their players behaviour ?

Ciftci punishment was a dawdle – seriously muzzle him for the 8 game she was banned for embarrass the crap out of him a punishment he would not forget in a hurry.

I remember driving down south once, and this lady said (in the broadest southern belle way ) …’yall have the funniest accents’ .. which made us all laugh, … and when we said we were from Toronto, it nearly blew her mind!

*stopped off on our way to Graceland late one night at a Hampton Inn in Cincinnati (I had an exam that morning), when I asked for a room the wee girl at the counter said “have you just driven down from Canada”, “Yes” I replied, “how did you guess”, “oh your accent”. I sound the same as when I lived on the Bonnie Banks.

sorry for not responding earlier … still midday here, and had to take a call.

Some parts of America I love, and some of them are great people, but, as a rule, I find them very inward looking …. I think it is over 70% of Britons who have a passport, whereas less than half of that number in america do (and that number has increased dramatically in the last 20 years) …

but, as you rightly point out, it is changing …..in spite of their traditional ‘melting pot’ mentality, the increased mutliculturalism has been and is good for America, and is hopefully changing its relationship with other countries …..

ps … I spent some time in New Jersey, and it was lovely… not at all the way it is presented in films.

Had a wee look at the link to the player valuations site.

Interested to see that Derk is valued more than GMS or Stuart Armstrong.

Wonder how they would value biggins in comparison to Henrik.

Or Wayne in comparison to Christopher Baggins.

Mikeintoronto, further to your post about Americans and passports.

I read years ago that G W Bush had never been out of America until he became President.

What makes that even more unbelievable is that was he a multi-millionaire prior to becoming President.

I hope you get to see the game tomorrow night. You have a point in not playing Griff tomorrow night to reduce the chance of injury but part of me wants him to play as he is a natural goal scorer.

dallas … fortunately, my case for tomorrow just settled, so hopefully I will be in the office and can have the game on in the background!

I agree about LG … they bhoy can score! and with a working midfield who could create chances … he would win the Golden Boot! I’m serious.. I rate him highly.

    Canamalar,

Many of the Dublin based Celtic fans watch the games there. I understand it might sound like an unfortunate name.

Tomorrow, it will be a round trip of 60 miles, I can only have soft drinks because of the driving.

But it will still be worth it to watch the games with like minded people.

In response to the Amuka attitude; it’s not all bad and only a sweeping generalisation but we are all guilty of that surely. It’s just that the funnier the story/tale, the more likely it is to figure the ‘Yank tourist’………………

Won’t bore you all with the numerous (personal) encounters but some really take a bit of believing:………….e.g.

Agreed…. it is present to a greater or lesser degree in every culture …. and it is all in how we seem them.

There is a test/term used in sociology/anthropology ‘nacirema’ (from a leading study/paper from the ’50’s, I think) which referred to the strange habits of this tribe in NA…. of course, the tribe are americans (nacirema is american spelled backwards), but most americans were shocked to hear of these strange habits of this odd culture :) … good reading.
