cinch merely the fodder in war against SPFL chiefs

796

The business model of the SPFL’s new sponsor, cinch, is to sell cars directly to the public, cutting out the dealer network.  Newco’s chairman owns a large car dealership which sponsors Newco (although it is not a shirt sponsor).

Newco have refused to comply with the SPFL contract by adding the cinch logo to players’ sleeves and elsewhere.  They claim compliance would break an existing commercial deal, presumably with their own chairman, but have refused to provide evidence of any existing deal to the league.

League and club sponsors often conflict.  While the SPFL was sponsored by Ladbrokes, Celtic had Dafabet blazoned across their chest and Newco had their own gambling partner.  Newco’s position appears to be that any club with a pre-existing agreement with any one of its partners can veto a league sponsorship deal. Quite a thing, with 42 clubs, some of which have 20 commercial sponsorship partners.

It is always possible that the SPFL’s rules are poorly drafted on such matters, the SFA were able to exploit what appeared to be a clear rule before, but the League have examined their position and have escalated the issue.  Yesterday, chairman Murdoch MacLennan wrote to all 42 clubs, stated the league’s position and informed clubs he had referred the matter to the SFA’s arbitration process.

If you think this all seems a bit contrived, you are not alone.  Why stand and fight on such a puny hill?  Newco are not the private fiefdom of their chairman, he is not Cnut (be careful), able to turn the tide against cinch, so why antagonise every non-compliant club in the league?

Newco want rid of MacLennan and especially SPFL chief exect Neil Doncaster.  Neither will do their bidding.  If the club can find a contractual oversight, it gives them grounds to call for their resignations, again.

There are other mattes at play; step forward Malmo manager, Jon Dahl Tomasson, who yesterday alluded to the matter we discussed in our State of the Club blog 10 days ago.  Newco need Champions League money more acutely than oxygen itself.  Should the wheels come off the white charger tonight, you can expect conflicts on every corner.

I never get what is it about people who think they are too special to follow rules.  There is a want about them.  Are we going to see pyros from the Newco directors’ box next?  Seems logical.  Fight The Man, even if The Man is just a salaried someone, responsible for converting advice or strategy onto structure.

My daughter has been trying to contact ticket office for tickets for Sunday v Hearts and cannot get through.

Any tips/thoughts. I thought I read on here guys passing on advice, any help given would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    D :)

    …………………

The Club’s Email on this is as clear as mud. After my own efforts to unsuccessfully contact the TO online for the game, I have since re-read it several times and now think that they are saying that if you are a season ticket holder and member of the Home Ticket scheme then your season ticket will be automatically enabled to let you into your seat on Sunday …………… provided that they are able to receive payment from your bank by 5 pm on Wednesday. If they can’t get your dosh for any reason then your ticket will be sold on Thursday on a first come, first served basis.

    I hope that’s right.

  2. As a matter of interest Wee Kris Union Jack and others at The Herald have mentioned that Sevco will be playing in front of 50k fans tonight. Why do Celtic have to close the main stand to fans on Thursday? Both tournaments are UEFA sponsored tournaments and the same rule should apply surely.

I’d imagine it’s the same for them they will have a reduced capacity for subs and officials etc. You know what Huns are like with counting and figures etc. they make them up!

  4. TOSL – Probably is right but for the Jablonec game we logged in and the tickets were in the in box waiting for us.

When I get through to this bit this time the inbox is empty and saying only on sale to ST holders. Arggghhh Which of course we are so we thought they would be sitting there waiting on us to buy, but nope nadda.

Of course the ticket office is only open for a short time every day and will be mobbed so cannot get through, I have emailed them as well.

  5. They might need as many squirrels as they can get their hands on if they don’t get their hands on the 60/70m that cL qualification guarantees this season

They couldn’t choke at the first sign of real pressure again, could they?

  6. They don’t seem to be handling their problems and a couple of good results for us very well do they?

Are you in the Home Ticket Scheme? If so the money will come out of your bank on the 11th and your Season Card is then used. por cierto

If you are on Home Cup Ticket scheme your card will be activated as long as you’ve got the readies in the bank

Copied this from my email from the tic

    HOME CUP TICKET SCHEME

The payment date for those in the Home Cup Ticket Scheme is Wednesday, August 11. Your Season Ticket will be activated subject to payment being received on this date.

This match will NOT be available to STH through the virtual services element of your Season Ticket (Pass to Paradise).

Think the Jablonec ticket was handled differently due to some seats being reserved for UEFA

    Hope this helps

  9. For those interested in such things, our XG on Sunday was 6.6

For a bit of context, the highest recorded XG from when XG stats were first collected until sept 2019 was 6.61 when Real Madrid beat Granada 9-1 in 2014. Man city beat watford 8-0 with an xg of 6.83, to set a new record.

With an attack including two new players and a team still getting used to a new coach it’s cause for excitement.

    …………………

I couldn’t get a ticket for the Jablonec game either until my window of opportunity opened. That was from 6pm Monday until noon on Tuesday. As soon as it opened I was notified by text, followed the link and I got a ticket for the North Stand which I had to print myself. I’m hoping I’m right about the Hearts ticket and will be watching to see if my direct debit comes off on Wednesday. Check your emails to see if there is one about your window of opportunity to organise a ticket for the Jablonec game.

OK sorry bud. I had to send an email to the ticket office on Monday, they got back to me very quickly, here’s hoping, HH. por cierto

  12. Of course by settling the public doesn’t get to see the levels of incompetence and blinded hun rage behind these false pursuits.

I wonder if they normally settle or is this also against their procedure and costing us money. Technically it could save some bread but I wonder….

  13. Help required bhoys . I bought tickets for euro tie on thursday . Does anyone know if my season ticket will be activated for this game .

The home cup ticket scheme didn’t apply to the Jablonec game because Direct Debits legally require 14 days clearance and there wasn’t enough time for that. It sounds like your daughter is on the HCTS. If she isn’t then I’m at a loss as to what the problem is. Sorry mate.

What I reckon is that if they can win this Cinch case on the basis that it interferes & obstructs their own business arrangements; then what is to stop them arguing that the “paltry” SKY TV deal interferes & obstructs their opportunity to sell *Rangers TV rights through their own medium and make ten times more than the “paltry” £4m that the title winner gets as first prize?

Of course Celtic could do likewise, but as always, Celtic play by the rules. The rules as they stand are now seen by a super confident Ibrox as obstacles in the way of making the kind of money that they will need going forward. Even the Malmo manager alluded to this pressing need yesterday in his press briefing.

Cinch is a chance for them to ‘test the water’. Those now running things at Ibrox are many things, but they are not stupid – we underestimate them at our peril.

  16. I’m not alone I see,in trying to decipher the ambiguous ticket emails from the Club recently….

  17. JIMTIM

If you have bought your own seats then your ST will be activated, of course, if you have had to move then you will need to print the ticket(s) that you have chosen. por cierto

  19. I predict a 3-4 nil victory for rangers tonight – why? their financial need is well known – they will pull every string possible to ensure favorable decisions.

The can influence Scottish refs and euro refs alike

PS I see but a is now linked with Everton – frustrates the life outta me that we have been negotiating for 6-8 weeks , dithering and now likely to lose out , if indeed these rumors are true.

I too see them winning comfortably. They were much the stronger side as the second half worn on in Sweden – was not surprised they scored – expected it much sooner. They will be all out for an early goal tonight…..and will probably get it!

  21. CELTIC40ME

The sum of £60-70M for participation in this season’s CL is way OTT, imo of course. £30M would be about a reasonable estimation, taking account of TV audiences and pool payments for dear old Scotia. Not an amount to be sniffed at, regardless of the recipient club.

95th minute outrageous deflected shot to score.

up to that point, in fact incluind that point they were pish

the evidence is being presented, their “best” players hate playing in front of a crowd,

they might get lucky tonight and malmo dont turn up.

    or

thier crowd might let them know they aint happy after the first mistimed pass, like they did in the saints game.

    they are worried sick.

they dont get through to the groups tonight , just a chance to get a playoff.

    I was being silly

I’ve previously posted calculations using the distribution figures from the uefa website. Unless the official document is wrong, including all ticket and match day revenues and less costs the amount will be around £20m.

Given that the total paid by Sky to all clubs in the spl every season is around £31m, how do you work out the Huns will be able to net £40m a season from broadcasting their own games?

Here, High in the foothills of the Cathkin Braes, there is a strong smell of fear drifting over from the Victorian toilet block in Govan.

Malmo, please put the cretins out of their smelly misery with a last minute offside goal.

    Thank you.
