It has been so long since Celtic progressed into the knockout rounds of the Champions League we dare not allow expectations to take root in our heads. For now, at least, the prospect is a live one. The result against Lazio at Celtic Park tomorrow night will give us a real insight into where our European prospects lie this season. For me, anything (within reason) remains possible.
No disrespect to the thrilling events at Fir Park on Saturday, but Brendan Rodgers is here for games like Lazio. This is where he gets to put his skills as a manager to the test. If he performs as well as he did at Ibrox last month, we will do well.
Tom Rogic signed off on his football career overnight, announcing he was retiring to Australia, with his wife expecting twins. He was much liked at Celtic Park among the non-playing staff, always showing respect to others. His acknowledgement of the managers and directors who helped him through personal challenges reflects his values. Although he will live on the other side of the world, he will forever be an ambassador of Celtic.
He leaves memories of so many important goals; countless against Newco, the Cup Final winner and that winner at Fir Park, memories to fortify him for the years ahead.
Update on yesterday’s blog. I wrote that Mick Beale was offered and rejected the Wolves job. I have since learned he did not make the cut after a poor interview. Excellent source. You have to respect the way he hustled his limited background into a £3.5m contract. Nice one, Mick.

A wee useful traffic update for anyone travelling to the match via Cumbernauld road,Riddrie.
There are still two sets of temporary traffic lights after the M8 junction and to compound your misery further, its single lane on approach to Todd street
Set off early if you can
Been trying to get the ticket office for two days but every number I tried ( including the main switchboard) was being notified as a wrong number.
It was only when I checked the internet that I found that my service provider Lycamobile had been hacked and was temporarily out of action and they couldn’t offer any information as to when they might be operational again!!
Just posting this in case anyone else is with Lycamobile and are panicking because they can’t make important calls.
Good luck to the Bhoys tonight!
Hail! Hail!

Jake O’Brien and Liam Scales could be drafted into the Ireland squad after first-choice centre-back John Egan was ruled out of the next week’s Euro ’24 double-header against Greece and Gibraltar.
The Sheffield United defender limped out of Saturday’s defeat at West Ham United with a leg injury and isn’t expected to return until after the international break.
Egan shook off an injury to start against France and Netherlands last month, a pair of defeats which ended Ireland’s hopes of reaching the Germany-hosted final next year.
Cardiff City’s Callum O’Dowda is also injured and won’t be named by Stephen Kenny in his squad when its revealed tomorrow. The games also comes too soon in the recovery roadmap of captain Séamus Coleman.
Ireland and Greece meet on Friday week at Aviva Stadium in what is effectively a battle for third spot. Gus Poyet masterminded a 2-1 win when the team met in in Athens in June. The penultimate competitive match of Kenny’s three-and-half-year tenure takes place three days later, on Monday October 16, in Faro.
Corkman Jake O’Brien, who made his Olympique Lyon debut on Sunday, could earn a first senior call-up.
Celtic’s Champions League player Scales has been part of squads but is also uncapped. Kenny is due to watch the left sided defender in the flesh tonight when they take on Lazio at Parkhead.
