CL millions floating across Glasgow

363

Tonight, we see the conclusion of the first of two ties that don’t involve Celtic but have a significant bearing on our income and domestic competitive stance.  Union Saint-Gilloise take a 2-0 lead to Ibrox, a result that in earlier times brought an 80% success rate.  Without the away goals rule, the advantage is reduced, Union also lost heavily at the weekend.  Newco will be rightfully confident of progress.

Qualification for the Champions League play-off round is worth over £5m in prize and gate money.  Celtic stand to earn an extra £3m if Newco are eliminated at this round or the next; that money would otherwise float across Glasgow to become part of Newco’s European bounty.  More importantly, our casino-football addicted rivals would be denied expensive chips to place before the transfer window closes.  No apologies for watching CL qualification closely this year.

Just a year ago, Celtic were eliminated from the Champions League the second qualification round by Midtjylland.  The transformation between then and now could scarcely be imagined.  A year ago, it was significantly more unlikely for Newco to reach the Europa League final.  We cannot underestimate them, or the significance a Champions League windfall would have.

Wow is that what they call a podium place ???”

Maybe but I would call it `Fourth` :-))

Rivals????? This would be the club that we keep getting told are less successful than St Johnstone?

Nor can we do anything about what they do (other than in 4 of the 38 games they play).

What we can do is be at our own best. Ange has this covered on the field. Off the field huge work to be done in this regard.

  3. I have seen quite a few posts on here where people claim they are not interested in Sevco`s results. I find that hard to believe. Cerrtainly,I will be very interested in the outcome of tonight`s game against Saint-Gilloise.

An even more skint Sevco makes a difference to us as well.

I’m going my first fishing trip in a couple of weeks…..

Never got into it with my dad, I usually kicked my ball upstream and dived in for it as it went past….. Found fishing boring.

    Love swimming anyway I digress.

The fishing trip is with two friends one of them and the born leader is ACGR…. Wish me luck.

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  5. For 3p I would be supporting the Union Saint-Gilloise Bhoys! Never mind 3 million. I love the we are not half of anything quote, but I do like to see them suffer, when delusion meets reality, then that is the very best time, I sometimes even go on to Borrow Borrow to gloat at their wailing and greetin, I then have a shower immediately afterword’s!

  6. Travelling Celtic supporters are set for a ticket boost after Ross County announced they will open two stands to the Premier Sports Cup holders for their visit to Dingwall on August 31.

The defending champions will travel to the Highlands for their last 16 clash at the end of month buoyed by a bumper travelling support after the hosts were met with a “low uptake” from their own fans from the game at the weekend….

A fishing trip with ACGR is likely to be an excellent adventure .

He told me that fish like the smell of whisky so a dram whilst angling was a good idea. Is that true?

That`s about the strength of it for me as well :-))

  9. Give me a night of VAR decisions ruling out their goals and then they lose after ET and penalties with Morelos the scapegoat

  10. Overturning a 2-0 is clearly difficult. I think 3 factors will need to align for Sevco.

    1. They have to produce one of their lungbursting efforts of last season (no evidence so far)

    2. The ref will need to let them off with industrial tackling/diving etc

    3. Union will need to freeze due to lack of experience

Personally, I think Sevco will get it to 2-2 (1 being a pen), pile on for the winner and get caught on the break for a 2-3 agg loss

  11. The huns will be hoping the return of Kent and fat Charlie is all they’ll need.

Will the away team handle the noise and occasion, hopefully an away goal too for them.

A few teams in the not so distant past have underestimated the huns….. Lets hope lessons have been learned and they don’t play as if they are already through.

There’s a bloke selling newspapers to the front of them, which suggests left wing involvement.

My guess is that the workers are revolting again.

    RMT?

  13. Every so often when the planets align correctly, Kenny Miller says something that makes sense. He spoke yesterday how early goals in the first 15 mins against Braga, Red Star and Liepzig were crucial to turning up the noise inside Ibrox.

Withstand the early onslaught, do a CalMac and chase their full backs back across the half way line every time they cross it and Union will do fine.

I’ve a tenner on them at 3-1. They’re outsiders and rightly so.

I’ve no idea if fish like the smell of a dram.

As you know , ACGR and his dramming are well documented seshs 🤣🤣🤣

I’m looking forward to the tranquility 😎and scenery 👍

  18. Now that Bournemouth are back in the EPL.

I don’t think that Ryan Christie will complete a full 90 mins in half their EPL fixtures.

Infact he will struggle to start in 50% of their EPL fixtures.

    Gaelic studies.

These would be improved significantly if all the teachers were like the one teaching it on Alba TV in the evenings.

    Definitely worth getting educated for.

    ————————————–

i shall need to go research that. I am genuinely interested in learning it.

As a bhoy I remember a BBC programme “Speaking Our Language”, and thinking what a load of old shite that is and such a waste of time.

Now as I near retirement I wans to go see all the islands and make an attempt at even just understanding the signposts.

My post yesterday about Partick Thistle introducing the Gaelic sing-posts was just general interest.

The bbc luvvies in their support, the kelvinside heilan heritiage and even things like the Lismore Bar I find quite interesting,

    and why not.

  21. SAINT STIVS on 9TH AUGUST 2022 1:31 PM

From what I can gather the difficulty in learning Gaelic is the mismatch between the way it is spoken and the way it is written (to an anglophone) and so it’s therefore easier just to learn it through speaking.

Bit awkward if you don’t know any Gaelic speakers right enough.

  22. Good few must have a wager on the huns tonight – PaddyPower have stopped taking bets on them to qualify. Union are at 1/4.

  23. glendalystonsils on

If only Union had got that third goal last week .

    Hopefully two will be enough.

  24. Gaelic — in the context of Glesga it is the invaders tongue.

If we are to learn the language of our — Glesga — forefathers then it should be Welsh.

Our future is Strathclyde — Lanarkshire and Lancashire combined.

No more Scots / Picts / Angles / Danes — just Strathclyders.

    No more Norman interference.
