CELTIC 2 AC MILAN 1 October 3 2007

CELTIC PARK was bouncing as an epic Champions League confrontation against the Italian holders of the trophy was edging towards a breathtaking crescendo.

With 58,643 spellbound fans watching from the stands, the match was stalemated at 1-1 and the clock was ticking towards the final whistle.

Gary Caldwell let fly from the edge of the box with a sweeping low right-foot drive. Brazilian keeper Dida sprawled to push the ball away, but striker Scott McDonald snapped onto the rebound to fire in an electrifying winner.

Captain Stephen McManus had given the hosts the advantage when he bundled in the breakthrough goal from a corner-kick delivery in the 62nd minute, but that was nullified with a quickfire penalty-kick equaliser from Kaka.

Alas, the drama didn’t end at the final whistle. Dida had feigned injury after the winning goal when an over-excited fan merely touched him on the cheek.

The keeper later received a one-game ban from UEFA, Celtic were fined £25,000 and the supporter was banned for life.
