Classless and motivated leaking

301

I get that if VAR did not have clear evidence that the referee’s made a mistake, they have no scope to overturn an on-field decision, but I thought the ball had gone out of play before Alistair Johnston crossed for Daizen Maeda late in the game at Easter Road.  I cannot get exercised over the apparently inappropriate intervention.

An away game after an away European game remains statistically the time a team are most likely to drop points.  These circumstances significantly explain why Hibs took all three points against the champions on Saturday.  Celtic were poor in the first half.  They improved in the second period when Daizen replaced Adam Idah through the middle, but it was all too late.

Last night news broke that Philippe Clement was to be sacked across the city hours before the deed was officially confirmed.  It is classless to allow a manager’s sacking to leak like this.

Information is currency and info that Clement was to be sacked is worth a lot of currency to a board member, trying to earn enough support from the media to leverage later.  Last week more news leaked from Newco, about a potential new US investor.  That leak did not land well with the investor, who had not made their key personnel aware of the prospective action.  But the leaker earned currency with the recipient of the news.

This is chronically dysfunctional and consistent with everything we know about Newco, especially their relationship with the media.  You can expect to read positive spins on the club’s plans as a consequence, with the interests of the leaker boosted in particular.  It’s all cosplay, the real world is unaffected.

In his 16 months in charge, Clement won the League Cup Celtic had been eliminated from before he was appointed.  Celtic won the three other trophies awarded during his time, enjoy a 13-point lead in the league and alongside Queen’s Park, are the only Glasgow clubs in the Scottish Cup.  Despite this lack of success, interim-CEO John Bennett awarded Clement a new four year contract in August.  A the time, this appeared rash.  Looking back, it was clearly another example of inept management at Ibrox.

On Clement’s appointment in October 2023, Bennett said, “A team led by our [then]CEO James Bisgrove, members of the board, and former Rangers player and manager Graeme Souness, has spent the last 10 days interviewing several high calibre candidates, with those individuals undergoing a rigorous interview and vetting process.”

I would like to offer a sincere thanks to Graeme for his role in the fiasco over the last 16 months and hope he is back at the table in the weeks to come.  The only cloud on our horizon is the reported prospect of Barry Ferguson being appointed interim manager across the city.  This could easily lead to a permanent appointment, with Ferguson exerting pressure on Brendan Rodgers next season.  Let’s hope Graeme can convince the board to look at a different candidate.

Paul echos the thoughts and feelings of our cowardly board over institutionalised cheating…move along Timmy, nothing to see here…. Absolutely disgraceful.

Not sure what you are bringing Tom Alison and Brian Wilson and Dermot Desmond etc into this for.

Weird that you want to blame the board for not intervening re a VaR decision.

Maybe supporting a club which puts out statements every few weeks is more to your liking.

Board have a duty to call out injustices in the game.

At the first AGM after the introduction of VAR, Mr Nicholson stated very clearly that the board would be keeping a close eye on it and would seek to comment and act if it deemed necessary. This came after the shocking display by VAR at Tynecastle when we played Hearts.

You obviously think the shysters who inhabit our board should just rock up at the games every week, take the cash and the freebies and sit on their hands when we are being cheated game after game?

Nice work if you can get it….

Agree completely why is the question? Someone know something that another someone doesn’t want to see the light of day?

Fromrhe DR, let the banter years continue:

Club legend Barry Ferguson has rubber-stamped an emotional return to Rangers with Allan McGregor added as part of his box-office coaching team.

Record Sport understands the Ibrox icon was desperate to secure the goalkeeping icon who will join Neil McCann and Billy Dodds on a deal until the end of the season ”

  6. “It’s all cosplay, the real world is unaffected”

Haha! Spot on, especially when it comes to serious people like their new “owners”

If the SF48er owners really are taking control at Ibrox they won’t be bothered about when or how Clement gets his jotters. They’d have removed him straight away anyway and done their own recruitment for the most important person in the football department.

If theyre half competent they will be using their “normal” way of finding the best candidate they can – intelligent scouting, data driven abd someone who fits with their business ideals and strategy. It’s the only way of turning the Huns round, they need to be working together not at different purposes.

I thought Clement was the best candidate they had, perhaps he was the best they found and I remember Souness pushing hard for Lampard at the time. Maybe the new owners will see a bigger picture than the old ones, it wouldnt be hard to

  7. But it’s ok we the board wont say or do anything about this obvious cheating that cost Celtic a point. Small potatoes for them maybe.

  9. Brendan was right to call out Muir for basically exceeding his remit as a VAR official.

Yet P67 feels the need to have a wee dig regardless.

These digs and snidey remarks have become a feature of the blog owner in recent times.

One wonders if any of this is being influenced by others in official positions at Celtic.

    It stinks.

I just wonder what guys like Wilson and even Nicholson actually do for what they take from our club?

The glib comment about statement FC fails to see that there are times when we, as a club must speak out.

It cannot and should not be left to the manager to call these injustices out but as we know the board is populated by cowards who just line their own pockets…..

  11. ONIL

Completely agree. One of the club criteria for a board position don’t rock the boat. Even if you have been blatantly cheated in a game that has cost the team 1 point. Say and do Nada, even mock those who are bothered about it.

  12. If I knew all these true blues are coming back, I would have started selling brown brogues. I would have made a fortune, but on the other hand I would have probably been added to the face painter on the creditors list.

  13. Not for the first time, I’m left scratching my head with Paul’s take on things.

In order to give a factual overturning of the on field decision then Alan Muir can’t think the ball is out of play – he has to know.

Brendan of course hasn’t forgotten the fact that Muir’s inability to see Haksabanovic being taken out at the angle inside the Killie pen box has cost him the only domestic competition he never won as Celtic manager.

Muir has previous. When you can nail him, you absolutely take that opportunity.

  14. CELTIC FC SHOULD demand an INQUIRY into Muir and his role with VAR…

MUIR SHOULD be forced to hand over the CONCRETE Evidence that HE used to disallow Diazens Goal v Hibs.

I don’t want our manager to be the ONLY Celtic voice when officials act against Celtic FC at every opportunity. Last season we had YANG being sent off WITHOUT his boot making any connection with any Hearts player, Ive seen MANY a HIGH BOOT in several other games on TV since then and those players NOT being Red Carded.

What exactly did Celtic FC ” DO” about YANGS Sending Off at the time ?

    Feckin Hee Haw !

  15. Pep McCann as well,Radio Scotland will need to draft in McCulloch and Davis in to cover for them

Bazza official supported by McCann and Doddsy , they have totally lost it
