Classless and motivated leaking

301

I get that if VAR did not have clear evidence that the referee’s made a mistake, they have no scope to overturn an on-field decision, but I thought the ball had gone out of play before Alistair Johnston crossed for Daizen Maeda late in the game at Easter Road.  I cannot get exercised over the apparently inappropriate intervention.

An away game after an away European game remains statistically the time a team are most likely to drop points.  These circumstances significantly explain why Hibs took all three points against the champions on Saturday.  Celtic were poor in the first half.  They improved in the second period when Daizen replaced Adam Idah through the middle, but it was all too late.

Last night news broke that Philippe Clement was to be sacked across the city hours before the deed was officially confirmed.  It is classless to allow a manager’s sacking to leak like this.

Information is currency and info that Clement was to be sacked is worth a lot of currency to a board member, trying to earn enough support from the media to leverage later.  Last week more news leaked from Newco, about a potential new US investor.  That leak did not land well with the investor, who had not made their key personnel aware of the prospective action.  But the leaker earned currency with the recipient of the news.

This is chronically dysfunctional and consistent with everything we know about Newco, especially their relationship with the media.  You can expect to read positive spins on the club’s plans as a consequence, with the interests of the leaker boosted in particular.  It’s all cosplay, the real world is unaffected.

In his 16 months in charge, Clement won the League Cup Celtic had been eliminated from before he was appointed.  Celtic won the three other trophies awarded during his time, enjoy a 13-point lead in the league and alongside Queen’s Park, are the only Glasgow clubs in the Scottish Cup.  Despite this lack of success, interim-CEO John Bennett awarded Clement a new four year contract in August.  A the time, this appeared rash.  Looking back, it was clearly another example of inept management at Ibrox.

On Clement’s appointment in October 2023, Bennett said, “A team led by our [then]CEO James Bisgrove, members of the board, and former Rangers player and manager Graeme Souness, has spent the last 10 days interviewing several high calibre candidates, with those individuals undergoing a rigorous interview and vetting process.”

I would like to offer a sincere thanks to Graeme for his role in the fiasco over the last 16 months and hope he is back at the table in the weeks to come.  The only cloud on our horizon is the reported prospect of Barry Ferguson being appointed interim manager across the city.  This could easily lead to a permanent appointment, with Ferguson exerting pressure on Brendan Rodgers next season.  Let’s hope Graeme can convince the board to look at a different candidate.

If we were playing in the consolation cup in europe we would also have got far great coefficient points. When sevco came to the big boys table in europe they ended up with the worst record in the history of that competition in that formate.

  2. Hi folks.

Going over to the game tomorrow and was wondering if the Heilan Jessie was a good bar for a pre match drink.

I see Brendan preferring to follow protocol than making statements like some on here suggesting our board should do. It’s the way we do it he said. Others on here suggesting our board were somehow weak for this.

*not sure if it was this site or another Celtic one but someone on it commented about being at the airport one day when madhun appeared and walked over to a group of officials siting there, possibly on trips to Europe, chatting away to each other saying along the lines of “what are they moaning about now, they’ve always got something to complain about”.

We NEVER make statements we just go about our business, which is why they now have to comply with FFP

  6. I see the hun ceo Stewart referred to Clement as ‘a fine man.’ I was also given a similar account by someone from inside Celtic Park who described Philippe as ‘a nice guy, very sociable.’

Van Bronckhorst was another decent sort who was treated abysmally by the huns…

I think perhaps Ferguson and Co are more suited to the hordes of Castle Greyskull…

  7. He man (the good ghuy) lives in Castle Greyskull…

Skeletor (the hun) lives in Snake mountain

  9. The equivalent of the new rangers dream team, were Celtic to dispense of the services of BR and his management team, would be something like: Scott Brown, Mark Wilson, Peter Grant and Artur Boruc.

But just wait for the fanfare when they announce Stevie Gerrard at the end of the season!

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Celtic have been in contact with the SFA over the decision to rule out Daizen Maeda’s second strike against Hibs.

    Burnley78.

There is a default position amongst some of the support that whatever the negative event the Board are at fault.

It has become a cultural narrative based on assumption or conclusions driven by the confirmation bias that the Board are – pick your word- negligent, complicit, incompetent, corrupt with no idea of what does take place.

Celtic work in the background but not alone because Celtic are not the only club who lose points as result of questionable referee decisions.

I had a conversation with then Comp Sec a bright lad about how Celtic go about raising issues with SFA.

The most recent has been cleverly thought out. No point going in and accusing Muir of anything. Just as proof is needed that a ball has crossed a line so too would Celtic need proof Muir cheated.

Instead Celtic based their approach on the principle that the referee is always right unless it can objectively demonstrated the Ref was wrong.

That is a lot harder to address than Muir is a cheat. I thought that would be bloody obvious to anyone but because of the default negative narrative at play no thought is given to what is a reasonable way to address an issue.

BR nailed it right after the game and Celtic officials have now taken the matter up with SFA in the key issue of a referees decision being final and VAR stay out of it if factual evidence is there to correct the referee.

Not only have Celtic acted, they have acted cleverly, but try selling that to the Board to be criticised defaulters and rather than think about the issue, the suggestion The Board got it right makes the suggestor a happy clapper which is an excuse to avoid changing the default position.

I’m no happy clapper but I believe providing as much information as is known from experience means minds open to persuasion might change their default position.

It’s a tough gig but as a wise man once said “The truth will set you free”

In a world crippled by lies and liars by not thinking enough, it’s time to counter wrong thinking wherever it occurs .

I’m no happy effing clapper, I only seek the truth in order to enlighten.
