Clean sheet and a win, please

140

Since their League Cup win at Celtic Park last month, Ross County recorded four straight defeats, conceding 10 without reply, which leaves them four points adrift at the bottom of the table.  Whatever they were fighting for when we last met, their players financial security is on the line every time they take the field.  New manager, John Hughes, will ensure they are not short of motivation.

Success is contagious in football and whatever traumas Neil Lennon has gone through to ensure his players are in the right frame of mind to take the field in recent months, he should have no problems today.  Winner’s medals certify your achievement and each Celtic player has a new one to show their loved ones this week, confidence should flow from them.

As well as the three points, I hope to see a clean sheet and County restricted to precious few chances, unlike our bizarre 0-5 win in September, which foretold of problems ahead.

“What was much more telling was our Captain’s inability to steady a very rocky ship from half time onwards. Compare that with the season under Ronnie D, when even a partially-fit Broonie galvanised the team by his mere presence on the field. ”

I sem to remember him galvanising us fine at our 3rd goal. Scott featured in most peop;e’s top 3 picks in Jobo’s comp for that game.

I believe Soro is the future but I don’t believe he would or could have performed better than Scott in that match

Just look at how ell our other 2 match career Celt did in that game!

    Thinking back to Sunday’s final.

I agree . Soro would have given our jittery defence cover which our captain was unable to provide in that second half . The hearts midfield would not have had the run of the pitch and their attempts on our goal would have been nipped in the bud .

Mind you , I don’t know if wee Soro would have created the opportunity for Griff’s goal the way Broony did .

  4. The Glasgow Cup Final that was never completed was in 1975. It was also played to commemorate the 800th Anniversary of the Dear Green Place.

A huge crowd, 80,000+ attended this game as it was also labeled the League v Cup winners, which we had won the Saturday before on a glorious sunny day with Paul Wilson being the MOTM.

The Big Mhan especially singled Paul out for praise as his mother had passed away that week preceding the Final and he had offered to leave him out of the game.

Why I remember this game is it was my last ever time at hunden as 6 weeks later I left the shores of my home and native land.

The game finished 2-2 with nae extra time, a replay was determined for the following August but the authorities never followed through with this.

Paul Wilson again was our star tormenting the hun defense and scoring an absolute belter, he was also subject to brutal tormenting chants about the colour of his skin as well as his mother being “deid”.

A hun I worked with justified this on the Monday saying after Paul scored his first, intercepting a poor pass back from sandra jardine which evaded the goalie, with Paul stabbing the ball over the line, he then blessed himself. Spoofers FC.

On the front page of the Monday morning Express Jim Sanderson had a right go at them saying their bigotry was bad enough but they had finally lowered themselves with their racist attacks.

Paul also created a record of having scored in four Hampden cup finals in the one season, Drybrough, League, Scottish and Glasgow Cups, which we all won.

  5. AULDHEID on 23RD DECEMBER 2020 2:17 PM – “I suggest that if you wish to stop further harm to the CST’s credibility as a democratic organisation you stop throwing mud as it is at an auld geyser that will blow it back at you.” – imagery is as rich as it is amusing :)

All respect in the world from this lurker to you auld geyser.

  6. Elyounoussi should not be near a jersey tonight, far too inconsistent, get Johnston in the team.

  7. Timhorton @ 4.03

All the best, you will be fine …..I have had about 20 colonoscopies since 1988

    – you need to get somebody to look into that 😉

  8. Surely Barkas must be in goal tonight. Hazard has shown absolutely nothing to prove that he should keep the jersey.

In fact I think the opposite.

  9. About Res 11/12 ..

The one thing I can guarantee about Auldheid and his determined quest to expose the malfeasance of football authorities is that he is a genuine Celtic supporter and has worked tirelessly along with the other key requisitioners to keep this extremely important issue front and centre of the Celtic board .

I cannot see any reason why any true Celtic supporter, shareholder or not, can malign his intent or the man himself. Instead Auldheid is owed a great debt because he has been relentless and indefatigable and anyone sniping at him or his motives has no real grasp of his dedication to this cause.

I doubt if anyone on this blog has any idea of the amount of time and effort he has put into taking all the disparate threads and creating over the years a consolidated framework encompassing this issue through his encyclopaedic grasp of the details .

I know because since Res 12 came to light and I met him via CQN as one of the signatories, I have spent countless days as a sounding board to Auldheid, mostly in Spain, where the main topic of conversation, week in week out, year in year out, was the developing Res 12 issue. I also know his long suffering wife well and she can testify to the amount of time he has committed to this over recent years instead of enjoying their retirement.

I have long been a proponent of taking this whole issue through the judicial route particulalry if Celtic continue to obfuscate and deflect next year. If the CST (of which I am currently a member) or the CSA don’t want to take a leading role then we can and should proceed without them under our own steam.

We have the financial clout, the expertise and determination to pick up the baton and run with it and let Auldheid et al retire to the bench. We cannot let this matter slip into obscurity – it’s too important for the credibility of the club and to hold Scottish Football to account.

Make no mistake Celtic – Persistence beats Res12tance and some of us do have the appetite !

Celtic players taking selfie’s and putting them on Instagram need to take a good long look at themselves

is this not just typical of this generation of arseholes!!!

I am shocked and surprised at your last post 2.56pm. I am also one of the original signatories, as you may be aware, and I have received many, many, emails and other correspondence throughout. Is it a case of an incorrect email address, maybe a typo which can easily occur?

Hope you and yours are well.

  12. Wouldn’t attempt to defend our defenders, they do make mistakes, but they don’t get much cover from midfield and they don’t have a reliable Keeper to save their blushes.

Christie & CalMac can’t tackle and are prone to conceding frees in dangerous areas.

Since the Season’s start I’m struggling to remember any super saves from open play from any of the 3 Keepers, I’m sure there must have been a few but I think I’m safe in saying Forster saved more decent efforts in one match, League Cup Final last year, than the present 3 saved this season to date.

In most games even with decent Defenders, Keepers will be required to make a couple of very good saves in order to keep a clean sheet. If your Keeper fails to do that you are 2 goals down.

I think the Defenders do give the Keepers the jitters and the Keepers likewise give the defenders the same.

I have hopes for Hazard long term but don’t see him as this year’s solution.

I see some of the Media have us linked to Dundee United Keeper & also saying that Celtic want new Keeper in place for Hun game.

Don’t know much about him, and not sure if he would be much of an improvement but I can’t see us winning the League without a new Keeper in and the sooner the better.

  13. St. Tams was that the 5 nil game last September ?.

Now that you say it, I have a vague memory of a couple of saves in that game, but if anything your reply proves my point.

Keeper does his job, we win 5 nil.

Keeper doesn’t do his job we draw 3 all.

  14. CORKCELT

    Yes it was.

I really don’t see the point in keeping Hazard in goal, as he is not the answer at present.

  15. BADABING 4.02

I couldn’t agree more I don’t rate Elyanoussi, he is so inconsistent one game in 5 is not good enough in my opinion. He is similar to James Forrest score a goal or two in one game then not seen for a month. Although we are missing his width at the moment. I agree with most on here and we must start with two up top Edouard and any one from three.HH

  16. @CelticFC line up v Ross Cty …

  17. EMBRAMIKE @ 4:20

I heartily endorse your comments, and would align myself with them. My original wish was for a crowd funded shareholder lawsuit against the Board for neglecting their fiduciary responsibilities. It would have been expensive, but experience ( at least in the U.S. ) shows that many of these are settled promptly out of court because of fears of unwanted publicity, and the Board has several skeletons in the closet that they really wish to keep there. I would love to see Bankier or Lawwell attempting to prove in open court that allowing your rival to cheat you out of tens of millions of pounds is “in the Company’s interest”!

The Res 12 lads, as longstanding fans, and for quite understandable reasons, were reluctant to sue their own Club, and I can see now, by the limp reaction from CST and CSA, that crowd funding might have been questionable. For me, Auldheid is a shining light, ethically far superior to anyone on the Celtic Board. They aren’t fit to lace his boots.
