Clean sheet objective against Lille

310

The one ray of sunshine in our long dark autumn was holding Lille to a 2-2 draw in France.  After 13 games, the French club sit second top of Ligue 1, two points off PSG; so far, this is their season in the sun.  The French club sit top of our Europa League group, a point ahead of Milan, both teams have qualified for the knock out round ahead of the final group games tomorrow.

Lille are incentivised to win at Celtic Park, there is the best part of Є1m open to them and seeding in the first knockout round to play for.  Celtic’s motivation is less clear.  We should certainly rest some ahead of the more important game on Sunday against Kilmarnock, but our defence needs every test it can get right now.  A clean sheet is achievable and should be the focus on team planning today.

Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles, is available now.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

So at the start of the season, sack your manager who in his current spell has a 100% hit rate in terms of domestic trophies.

    Even sillier.

This is football. Winning the title last season is of little comfort to fans when we are 13 points behind before the half-way point.

I don’t think that’s specific to Celtic fans.

We’ve failed again to qualify for the CL. That’s a season objective missed.

You can add the league cup to that now.

We’re also one of the worst teams in the Europa League.

I think Neil Lennon is a good football manager but for whatever reason, it’s not worked this season.

There are fans who wanted him sacked after the Cluj game last season. I think those fans were proved wrong. Some wanted him gone after Ferencevaros. I personally thought that was too hasty even though I was very concerned.

I personally believed it was time for him to go after the 4-1 defeat to Prague at Parkhead. That was the final straw for me.

We have won one game since then.

  2. As the British pound continues on its downward Conservative and Unionist downward Brexit spiral professional football players have another reason to look abroad…….keep your eye on Germany, France and Italy et al gobbling up.

Chasing busses is about the closest contact fans have with the players because of the covid restrictions so it’s understandable.

There’s photos online of a similar shoot the board banner from the last time around so maybe that was a fan who knows his history. I doubt there will be any Osman warnings issued on the strength of it, though no doubt the SNP will use it to try to introduce some legislation or other. It’s what they do.

The Celtic Trust are probably now the body to provide a lead for the fans.

  4. January transfer window is a game changer as the value of the Conservative and Unionist British Brexit pounds collapses in value. Sell everything you’ve got and buy Desmond’s gold.
