Climbing the mountain, confusing perpetrator for victim

396

It wasn’t a glorious performance last night but I’m delighted to be through to the League Cup quarter final nonetheless. Cup games against lower league opposition are there to be won, nothing else. There were a few bright spots: Saidy Janko looks like he has a sound future in the game, while Efe Ambrose seemed to enjoy his role as senior partner in the defence.

While we struggled for an opening, Kris Commons again stepped forward with a crisp strike from outside the box into the corner of the net. He remains the key to a large number of locks. We should have added more before Stefan Johansen grabbed a late goal to tidy things up.

On the way into the game I predicted Aberdeen’s defeat. With winning 8 league games in a row and being clear at the top of the league, every game has been a cup final for them, until last night. A game against lower league opposition is just not the same (see above). Footballers are not robots, so it’s difficult to ‘climb the mountain’ for every game.

How they react to this defeat will be interesting. Last season they won seven games in a row before Dundee took a point from them, heralding an immediate slide in form and the end of their title challenge. They have a trip to Inverness on Saturday to prepare for.

Charles Green’s apparent claim for legal expenses from Newco Rangers is jarring, but far from surprising.

The Rangers Football Club Ltd (formerly Sevco Scotland Ltd), a member club of the SFA, was the vehicle Green used to strike the Sale and Purchase Agreement for (oldco) Rangers’ assets. It is the beneficiary of that deal, not the victim. The alleged victim is the rightful owner of the assets, which may be Sevco 5088 Ltd, (oldco) Rangers creditors, or someone else altogether.

It is no surprise whatsoever that the beneficiary of a deal would be legally obliged to defend the officers who signed the deal on its behalf.

Still, there’s more to this episode than a simple case of alleged wrongdoing. Fans are caught between affection for the football club and anger at what was allegedly done in 2012. By the football club. I wouldn’t want to have to reconcile those emotions.

We have two big games to look forward to in the next week, both at Celtic Park. Club sponsor, Magners, have kindly offered us two Premium seats in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game. To win the tickets you need to answer the following question:

Who do Celtic play on Saturday?

  3. My friends in Celtic, HT et al,

I read the post last night about the schoolchildren and frankly I was saddened and angered because I know that story is recipated in many schools.

One of our drinking buddies a Maths teacher now teaches in a school in a Glasgow suburb. The children want and are able to learn and the academic record reflects that. However when he was a supply teacher teaching in the NE of the city, he told a similar story, alibet in a Secondary school. He told of abject poverty where children’s immediate thoughts were survival of both themselves, their siblings and parent(s). Although some pupils were extremely capable, priorities lay elsewhere.

Answers are tough but the children must come first. I intend absolutely no criticism but if the parents are on benefits should they be paid in vouchers to prevent addictions and loan sharks taking hold of the money?.

I do not know the answer and obviously neither do our politicians but this is an outrage in a wealthy soceity. As many of us go to the game tomorrow and spend lavishly before and after please give a though to the schoolchildren who literally have nothing.

If it is possible to help these unfortunate children at the point of contact then I’m sure many of us would be up for it.

    HH to all.

That’s why it’s an outrage that the Tories have removed free school meals from infants in England and Wales. All conveniently overshadowed by the pig.

  5. Bhoys and ghirls the answer to poverty in our schools should be really easy, our government in Westminster has been voted in by the people to provide answers. Trust Westminster , they have the interests of Scotland at the heart of all policy. Simples.

Dont know about England and Wales,, but the Scottish government deserve praise for maintaining the free school dinners for those in need. Sometimes it can literally be the only meal of the day for some.

I tend not to bother much about the monkey’s and their troubles, but I was sent this earlier. It was written by a rangers fan who isn’t buying into the G & SL. I ended up reading some of his other blog posts, you would think it was written by Phil Mac, are they finally seeing the light ?

  8. Fantastic news KevJ, on the one road to full recovery. Get to the hoot I am sure it will be good for your soul, if not your liver. Philbhoy you might remember I mentioned a good friend who went through the same long hard journey your daughter Olivia travelled. She is going through it a second time now and is winning the same race. If you could spare one of your prayers I am sure it will get to her. All good on steroids now and will have gone through the full treatment by Christmas. Hail hail

KevJ- if I can fight such a battle and come through as you, when I’m ‘auld and crabbit’, well then I’ll know I’m blessed and lucky to have those bastions of strength and faith to support me. And then to share your thoughts and wishes for others, hail hail fella. Touch of class :)

  10. Actually don’t fancy anything tomorrow except Shalaa, but at 4/9 not much point in that, Newmarket is excellent racing but difficult punting.
