Climbing the mountain, confusing perpetrator for victim

396

It wasn’t a glorious performance last night but I’m delighted to be through to the League Cup quarter final nonetheless. Cup games against lower league opposition are there to be won, nothing else. There were a few bright spots: Saidy Janko looks like he has a sound future in the game, while Efe Ambrose seemed to enjoy his role as senior partner in the defence.

While we struggled for an opening, Kris Commons again stepped forward with a crisp strike from outside the box into the corner of the net. He remains the key to a large number of locks. We should have added more before Stefan Johansen grabbed a late goal to tidy things up.

On the way into the game I predicted Aberdeen’s defeat. With winning 8 league games in a row and being clear at the top of the league, every game has been a cup final for them, until last night. A game against lower league opposition is just not the same (see above). Footballers are not robots, so it’s difficult to ‘climb the mountain’ for every game.

How they react to this defeat will be interesting. Last season they won seven games in a row before Dundee took a point from them, heralding an immediate slide in form and the end of their title challenge. They have a trip to Inverness on Saturday to prepare for.

Charles Green’s apparent claim for legal expenses from Newco Rangers is jarring, but far from surprising.

The Rangers Football Club Ltd (formerly Sevco Scotland Ltd), a member club of the SFA, was the vehicle Green used to strike the Sale and Purchase Agreement for (oldco) Rangers’ assets. It is the beneficiary of that deal, not the victim. The alleged victim is the rightful owner of the assets, which may be Sevco 5088 Ltd, (oldco) Rangers creditors, or someone else altogether.

It is no surprise whatsoever that the beneficiary of a deal would be legally obliged to defend the officers who signed the deal on its behalf.

Still, there’s more to this episode than a simple case of alleged wrongdoing. Fans are caught between affection for the football club and anger at what was allegedly done in 2012. By the football club. I wouldn’t want to have to reconcile those emotions.

We have two big games to look forward to in the next week, both at Celtic Park. Club sponsor, Magners, have kindly offered us two Premium seats in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game. To win the tickets you need to answer the following question:

Who do Celtic play on Saturday?

Competition closes at 22:00 tonight, so get in quick. While you are at it, how about donating £1 to our Mary’s Meals school kitchen appeal? You can do so here. Thank you.

Ffs,they brought out a commemorative t-shirt just for getting a semi in last year’s League Cup. Their behaviour on reaching a final in a real competition disnae bear thinking about.

Right- off to see our young ghuns take on Benfica in High Wycombe tonight- only an hour from me, so taking my wee mhan to his first Celtic game. OK- not the real thing- but he needs a wee taster and a chance to wear his hoops to a proper match..

Really wish I had known earlier in the Day about that match..

Just checked I’m a Hour and a Half away so don’t want to chance heading now and getting stuck in traffic as the M4 was a nightmare yesterday..

    THE COMPETITION

Welcome back to a new season and LMS 5, which kicks off Saturday 3rd October.

This is the first competition of the new season and we will continue to support Shay McGinley (age 2) and his young family. Thanks to your incredible support last year we raised over £5,300 through LMS and other CQN funding raising activities. This has gone along way to support Shay’s first and second year of treatment. We have a further year to support the wee fella.

You can read about Shay here

    https://www.facebook.com/Help-Shay-Along-The-Way-814451225255695/timeline/

The competition will cost £10 each to enter, and like in LMS4 you will be allowed to buy extra lives in rounds 1 to 3 for a similar amount.

Payout will again be 50% to the Last (Wo)man Standing and 50% to Shay…..

…and all you have to do to is simply select a unique winning team each week from the list of fixtures provided. Dead easy :-) How can you fail not to win? 

The winner of LMS4 netted a cool £425.

So to register, you must firstly send us an email to cqnlastmanstanding@gmail.com ( please tell us your name and CQN moniker if you have one) and secondly make sure payment is made by Saturday 3rd October. Payment details and rules will follow on registration.

Please also tell your friends and family about this competition, as the more that enter mean the more you ( and Shay ) can win.

Finally, thank you for your support and good luck in becoming the last (wo)man standing!

  18. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Weet weet weet, my son’s former team were in the same group as the the rangers supporters association boys club in the city of Glasgow Cup. My son’s team were 3 nil down when the the rangers had a player sent off. Behind the ref ‘s back they put another player on. This was spotted eventually by the ref. The coach thought the sent off player had been ‘subbed’. it was noticeable they had an extra player, the extra player they put on was an young black player and his other team mates were white. The the Rangers even cheated in juvenile football.

Pleasing we won last night with a clean sheet thrown in.

Speaking of the MSM I see there have been another two casualties. Both the editor of the Evening Times, and of the Sunday Herald have resigned their positions. The latter, Richard Walker a bit of a surprise given that the Sunday Herald is the only paper to increase its’ circulation this year, less so the former,Tony Carlin, whose wee paper’s sales are down 10% in the last six months after a dressing down by the Clumpany. Moral of this particular story, nobody likes getting clumped!
