Climbing the mountain, confusing perpetrator for victim

396

It wasn’t a glorious performance last night but I’m delighted to be through to the League Cup quarter final nonetheless. Cup games against lower league opposition are there to be won, nothing else. There were a few bright spots: Saidy Janko looks like he has a sound future in the game, while Efe Ambrose seemed to enjoy his role as senior partner in the defence.

While we struggled for an opening, Kris Commons again stepped forward with a crisp strike from outside the box into the corner of the net. He remains the key to a large number of locks. We should have added more before Stefan Johansen grabbed a late goal to tidy things up.

On the way into the game I predicted Aberdeen’s defeat. With winning 8 league games in a row and being clear at the top of the league, every game has been a cup final for them, until last night. A game against lower league opposition is just not the same (see above). Footballers are not robots, so it’s difficult to ‘climb the mountain’ for every game.

How they react to this defeat will be interesting. Last season they won seven games in a row before Dundee took a point from them, heralding an immediate slide in form and the end of their title challenge. They have a trip to Inverness on Saturday to prepare for.

Charles Green’s apparent claim for legal expenses from Newco Rangers is jarring, but far from surprising.

The Rangers Football Club Ltd (formerly Sevco Scotland Ltd), a member club of the SFA, was the vehicle Green used to strike the Sale and Purchase Agreement for (oldco) Rangers’ assets. It is the beneficiary of that deal, not the victim. The alleged victim is the rightful owner of the assets, which may be Sevco 5088 Ltd, (oldco) Rangers creditors, or someone else altogether.

It is no surprise whatsoever that the beneficiary of a deal would be legally obliged to defend the officers who signed the deal on its behalf.

Still, there’s more to this episode than a simple case of alleged wrongdoing. Fans are caught between affection for the football club and anger at what was allegedly done in 2012. By the football club. I wouldn’t want to have to reconcile those emotions.

We have two big games to look forward to in the next week, both at Celtic Park. Club sponsor, Magners, have kindly offered us two Premium seats in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game. To win the tickets you need to answer the following question:

Who do Celtic play on Saturday?

Email your answer IN THE SUBJECT LINE to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Competition closes at 22:00 tonight, so get in quick. While you are at it, how about donating £1 to our Mary’s Meals school kitchen appeal? You can do so here. Thank you.

  2. Default Celtic loanee could return sooner than expected

One of Celtic’s young defenders on loan could be set to return to the club sooner than expected after picking up an injury.

Eoghan O’Connell is currently on loan at Oldham Athletic and has made two appearances so far this season for the League One side.

However, the Manchester Evening News is reporting that O’Connell has picked up an injury, with the Latics waiting for an update on the status of the 20-year-old. If the injury is serious enough, he could return to the Glasgow side for rehab.

The Irishman joined Oldham during the summer transfer window and he was expected to return to his parent club, Celtic on January 1st 2016.

O’Connell picked up an injury in training earlier this week and could return to the Hoops if he sustained a long-term injury.

Since making his first-team debut against Ross County in March 2014, O’Connell has made five further appearances for the league champions but could be set for a period on the sidelines if the injury sustained is serious.

  3. MartyBhoy, I was at KB last night.

Great show and as previous posters have already mentioned, the support act is pretty decent as well.

Worth getting there & seated for 8pm to catch the start.

Pls note tho, if you are going with the Mrs & thinking about carrying in a carry oot, the door staff search all hand bags so best to find an alternative way of smuggling ;o)

I was told to back it on Monday 520 Hamilton, and it was withdrawn ( after attracting some support)

Then today the message was that it runs tomorrow but to hold off from backing it until the word came through.

    Then bang bang 16 14 12 8 7 5..

Still has to win mind you

West End of East End, Voguepunter, thanks for posting the link to Kevin’s podcast with Graham . Its very enjoyable.

Delaney’s , I trust your opinion of Kevin’s dad. Kevin talking about his dad’s comments to Ferguson , show reputation means nothing to Mr Bridges senior.

Bada Bing, you will enjoy the podcast. Kevin’s love of Celtic and football shines through.

Pretty much a desperately poor game last night with little quality on offer, quite worrying really.

Of the players last night I thought Tierney and Blackett showed promise against poor opposition. McGregor, Mackay-Steven and Ciftci need to massively up their game, all three were very, very poor, Mackay-Steven is a better player than what he’s offering at the moment.

On a positive note Ambrose looked like the leader on the field, Rogic continues to impress, as does the Bovril at half time.

Similar thing happened here last year.

Old went out walking with her dog which she did regularly, ended she walked and walked from one side of the city to the other. Collapsed and died of exposure. Dog was still sitting beside her when she was found a few days later,

Happened to my wife’s uncle when he was only early 50s. Didn’t know his wife or children, couldn’t be left alone, had to go into a home. Died after a couple of years, terrible thing to lose your mind like that.

    ****Last Man Standing 5 update****

    Good Evening fholks

A big thank you to the 40 entrants who have registered to join LMS5, with a week still to go. Truly amazing!

Are we on our way to beating the LMS4 wonderful total of 72? Lets hope so!. Details to follow to those registered over next day or two. so if you don’t receive an email, you’ve not been registered.

    ——————————————————————

Welcome back to a new season and LMS 5, which kicks off Saturday 3rd October.

This is the first competition of the new season and we will continue to support Shay McGinlay (age 2) and his young family. Thanks to your incredible support last year we raised over £5,300 through LMS and other CQN funding raising activities. This has gone along way to support Shay’s first and second year of treatment. We have a further year to support the wee fella.

You can read about Shay here

    https://www.facebook.com/Help-Shay-Along-The-Way-814451225255695/timeline/

The competition will cost £10 each to enter, and like in LMS4 you will be allowed to buy extra lives in rounds 1 to 3 for a similar amount.

Payout will again be 50% to the Last (Wo)man Standing and 50% to Shay…..

…and all you have to do to is simply select a unique winning team each week from the list of fixtures provided. Dead easy :-) How can you fail not to win? 

The winner of LMS4 netted a cool £425.

So to register, you must firstly send us an email to cqnlastmanstanding@gmail.com ( please tell us your name and CQN moniker if you have one) and secondly make sure payment is made by Saturday 3rd October. Payment details and rules will follow on registration.

Please also tell your friends and family about this competition, as the more that enter mean the more you ( and Shay ) can win.

Finally, thank you for your support and good luck in becoming the last (wo)man standing!

Delaney’s at 9.33, its a strange phenomen , becoming an Arsenal man after being brought up in Wyndford. There can’t be too many out there like that.

Kelvin Wilson’s first season with us could have been better but in his second season, I thought he was one of our best players.

  21. HT

    Thanks for last night amigo.

Enjoyed watching the game with you and sharing our opinions.

See you Saturday. 3pm magic. :)

Kelvin Wilson was a good player for us until he got his Achilles done from behind against (I think) Ross Co.

Never quite the same after that.

I haven’t seen much of rogic but I am really excited about him – he can really pick a pass – hope we can get to where he could be. what must it have been like to have seen the greats at the beginning – when they first started to show their genius in tiny glimpses : I can only dream- anyway rogic, he can be something.
