Club 9, selling empire and Rangers European Champions 1967

628

Club 9 Sports released a priceless statement tonight indicating they are considering an investment in Rangers only as part of a consortium and will not be bidding for the club on their own.

So far, so clear.  They then entertain us with a remarkable interpretation of liquidation, saying:

“We understand that it has been strongly rumored that our group planned to “liquidate” the club. It should be made clear that any party that attempts to acquire the club, eliminate the debts, affect a turnaround, invest monies and put the club back on solid ground is in fact “saving” the club from liquidation and preserving its past and its future.

“In an asset purchase, all of the good and valuable assets (records, marks, names, trophies, players, staff, history) are preserved and separated from the bad and harmful liabilities (tax bills, bad contracts, creditors), which have put the club into administration and which act to force the entirety into liquidation.”

“Saving” the club from liquidation by putting the entirety into liquidation.  Don’t laugh, they honestly wrote this.

For the record, you can’t sell history or records.  Can you imagine?  Britain could flog off our whole empire period and maybe use the current economic crisis in Greece to buy their classical period from them. Aristotle, from Scotland, perhaps.

Personally, I would love to be the first Briton to hold aloft the European Cup, maybe Billy McNeill would sell me that record?  He’s had it for 45 years now, it can’t be worth that much to him anymore.

I wonder how much Messi would sell his record breaking Champions League history?  Barca are playing catch-up with Real Madrid in the European Champions stakes.  Instead of buying expensive footballers they could just offer Real cash for some of the trophies won during the 1950s.

David Murray should have saved himself all the trouble and just offered our old board a few million for the Lisbon history, just think:

Rangers, European Champions, 1967. Opportunity missed. Murray should have had a word with Club 9.

I’m enjoying these guys already, hope they are given the green light tomorrow.  What terrified Brian Kennedy floats my boat. They even finished off with some sweet platitudes about a “legendary fan base”.  I think we have a winner….

    EXCLUSIVE

    By ROBERT GRIEVE

    Published: 03rd April 2012

PAUL MURRAY fears his bid to buy Rangers is DOOMED.

The Blue Knights chief is worried a USA consortium will emerge as front-runners when the final bidders for Gers break cover today.

In a bizarre twist late last night, Chicago-based Club 9 Sports insisted they WON’T be bidding.

The American firm revealed they don’t want to buy the stricken Ibrox club and have been acting as part of a larger consortium.

Pointedly, they did not say if that consortium would still be lodging a bid before today’s 5pm deadline.

Former Gers director Murray clearly believes that the American group will be favourites if they make their move.

Administrators say they are expecting up to five bids this afternoon — with Sale Sharks owner Brian Kennedy ready to return to the fray.

But Murray fears the American plan effectively involves forming a new Rangers after taking the current club into liquidation.

He insists that would be a DISASTER for Gers.

Speaking from Dubai last night, Murray told SunSport: “Since the weekend the administrator has almost been preparing the field to come to the conclusion of liquidation.

“I really don’t know why that is. Maybe he sees Club 9 as being the preferred bidder.

“I think that liquidation is their preference so maybe that’s what he’s doing, I don’t know.

“I just find it pretty worrying that since the weekend the whole tone of the thing has moved towards liquidation.

“From our point of view all we can do is put our best foot forward. The reason I have spent so much time on agreeing a deal with Ticketus is that I firmly believe a CVA is the best outcome for the club and that liquidation is a really, really difficult thing for the club.

“I for one would not like to see that and I’ll be trying my best to stop that.

“Ultimately, though, it’s simply not my decision.”

Club 9 Sports issued a statement late last night insisting they were NOT fronting a buy-out bid and were only part of a consortium looking to take over the club from Craig Whyte.

They said: “We can confirm that representatives of Club 9 Sports have been involved with investigating, analysing and considering a potential purchase of Rangers Football Club plc on behalf of a group of interested parties from the US and UK.

“However, at no time has Club 9 Sports itself offered a bid to acquire the club. Our role has been as a member of a proposed consortium.

“We can also confirm that we have not met with, spoken to, or otherwise been associated with Craig Whyte in any way.”

What is it you want Celtic to do?

Scottish football is a complete shambles, a mess of its own making

Power has lay for decades with the SFA and Rangers men so indistinguishable it was a joke, a compliant media spinning lies to protect the stinking corruption that was evident to everyone else in Europe. In 2007 a UEFA disciplinary committee said why should we have to punish Rangers for the sectarian billy boys when the countrys establishment have done nothing, they certainly knew that the institution that is Scottish football was rotten to the core.

Celtic are playing a blinder at the moment, say nothing, concede nothing not an inch to anyone, if you can keep your head whilst there is insanity around you is a good strategy.

  9. “A dialogue has been started with the SFA, SPL and UEFA — and a confidentiality agreement has been signed between them, so I can’t go into the detail of it.”

This is concerning and more so because none of these bodies have seen fit to reveal the fact of the discussions even without the details.

Scotland’s top police officer accused by sergeant of misusing public cash

Chief Constable Stephen House: Allegations over misuse of public cash

    By GARETH ROSE

    Published on Wednesday 4 April 2012 00:00

THE HEAD of Scotland’s largest police force is facing calls for an investigation, following allegations by one of his sergeants.

Sgt Martin Porter has made accusations against Strathclyde Police, including that Chief Constable Stephen House (No relation to Robert Short House) has overseen a misuse of public funds, by authorising personal police protection to the aunt of one of his senior officers.

Strathclyde Police Authority members have now written to their chief executive saying the actions of Mr House, one of the leading candidates to head a new Scottish force, should be investigated by another force.

Sgt Porter, 48, who has been an officer for 27 years, also believes there has been a cover-up surrounding events leading up to the suicide of his teenage son.

David Porter, 18, was a pupil at Grange Academy, Kilmarnock, in June 2008, when he allegedly intervened to stop the racist bullying of another pupil.

The matter came to blows, the on-school police officer was alerted, and David was subject of a report sent to the procurator-fiscal. Nine months later he was acquitted of assault at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

However, in the intervening time, his schoolwork and mental health deteriorated. In September 2009, he took his own life on railway tracks in Kilmarnock, leaving his family devastated.

Martin Porter’s sister, Jean, said: “Not only was he acquitted in court, but the sheriff commended him for coming to the aid of the young boy.”

She added: “It’s just taken over everyone’s lives, we just can’t move on. David was a lovely boy.

“Martin has always had a strong sense of moral code. We just wanted someone to admit they were wrong and apologise. But that didn’t happen, and that put Martin on a mission.”

Strathclyde Police said both matters had been investigated thoroughly and Mr Porter was told his complaints had been found to be unsubstantiated.

However, authority members believe the allegations of misuse of public funds are so serious they should be referred to another force, while the handling of the incident at Grange Academy could amount to an offence.

In a joint letter to chief executive Keith Mannings, ten members wrote: “Mr Porter alleged that the original investigating officer had carried out a biased investigation, had withheld known information from the prosecution and defence, had hidden information from supervisors, had failed to initiate a racial incident process, and had failed to probe glaring inconsistencies in witness accounts.

“On the face of it, there is material here that points to the possibility that there had been an attempt to pervert the course of justice. Mr Porter alleges there has been a police cover-up.”

On the misuse of public funds, they wrote: “The allegation was that in June 2010 the chief constable had instigated what became known as ‘Operation Park Road’, which was in effect a very expensive police operation to look after [former] ACC [John] Neilson’s aunt.”

They added: “We accordingly see no reason why the authority should not now have an opportunity to consider referring the complaint against the chief constable to the chief constable of another force.”

According to sources, it is alleged £25,000 was spent on “Operation Park Road” in 12 days before it was cancelled.

Mr Porter, who has four other children, including three who are still at home, has been on sick leave since November 2010.

He believes he is still owed payments – something both the force and authority deny – and plans to take his case to an employment tribunal.

Strathclyde Police said Mr House would have no issue with the matter being referred to another force.

A spokesman said: “Strathclyde Police followed due process in dealing with a complaint against a chief officer. This complaint was initially investigated by Strathclyde Police Authority.

“The complaint was fully investigated and found to be unsubstantiated.”

THE final Old Firm match of the season will take place on 29 April, two games after the Clydesdale Bank Premier League split, while Hibs’ and Dunfermline’s potential relegation decider will be the penultimate game of the season – played on a Monday night at Easter Road on 7 May.

Celtic will host Rangers on the Sunday with a 12.45pm kick-off after playing Motherwell at Fir Park the previous weekend, the SPL confirmed yesterday.

They need just a point to clinch the title, and can secure that at Kilmarnock this weekend in the final match before the league splits in two.

St Johnstone are the team to miss out on their fair share of home games having qualified for the top six for the first time since returning to the top flight.

Saints will have played 16 home games after Saturday’s visit of Inverness and have only two more at McDiarmid Park – against Dundee United and Rangers. That means a third visit to Fir Park this season for Saints, who are five points behind third-placed Motherwell.

Every other team will have 19 home and away games apart from Kilmarnock, who get an extra match at Rugby Park after slipping out of the top six this season.

The European battle culminates with Motherwell facing Dundee United at Fir Park on May 13, while Saints host Rangers and Hearts travel to Celtic Park.

Before Hibs entertain Dunfermline – who they currently lead by six points – they face Kilmarnock at home and both St Mirren and Aberdeen away before then, after hosting Motherwell on Sunday. Dunfermline, who play Hearts on Saturday, then face St Mirren away, Aberdeen at home and Inverness away. Their final match is at home to Kilmarnock while Hibs are at Inverness, having won there twice already this term.

St Johnstone also face a third match at Celtic Park but host Rangers and Dundee United for a third time.

SPL secretary Iain Blair said it was “simply impossible” to ensure 19 home games for all clubs.

Blair said: “Various versions of the round 34-38 fixture list are produced and we then select the one that provides the best fit overall. In line with previous seasons, all clubs will finish the season either home/away or away/home. We try to achieve as balanced a fixture list as possible.” The fixtures have also thrown up a Thursday night fixture during the midweek round with Celtic hosting St Johnstone on 3 May, 24 hours after Rangers play Dundee United at Ibrox. “In the regular season, Celtic/Rangers and Hearts/Hibernian always play at home on alternate weekends but, given the many constraints when compiling the post-split fixtures, it is sometimes impossible to avoid a city clash,” Blair said. “With both Celtic and Rangers at home in the midweek of 2 May, it forced us to switch one game to the Thursday. Tuesday was ruled out due to the Old Firm game the previous Sunday.”

Blair revealed the Old Firm date was chosen following consultation with the clubs, the SPL and the police.
