Club 9, selling empire and Rangers European Champions 1967

628

Club 9 Sports released a priceless statement tonight indicating they are considering an investment in Rangers only as part of a consortium and will not be bidding for the club on their own.

So far, so clear.  They then entertain us with a remarkable interpretation of liquidation, saying:

“We understand that it has been strongly rumored that our group planned to “liquidate” the club. It should be made clear that any party that attempts to acquire the club, eliminate the debts, affect a turnaround, invest monies and put the club back on solid ground is in fact “saving” the club from liquidation and preserving its past and its future.

“In an asset purchase, all of the good and valuable assets (records, marks, names, trophies, players, staff, history) are preserved and separated from the bad and harmful liabilities (tax bills, bad contracts, creditors), which have put the club into administration and which act to force the entirety into liquidation.”

“Saving” the club from liquidation by putting the entirety into liquidation.  Don’t laugh, they honestly wrote this.

For the record, you can’t sell history or records.  Can you imagine?  Britain could flog off our whole empire period and maybe use the current economic crisis in Greece to buy their classical period from them. Aristotle, from Scotland, perhaps.

Personally, I would love to be the first Briton to hold aloft the European Cup, maybe Billy McNeill would sell me that record?  He’s had it for 45 years now, it can’t be worth that much to him anymore.

I wonder how much Messi would sell his record breaking Champions League history?  Barca are playing catch-up with Real Madrid in the European Champions stakes.  Instead of buying expensive footballers they could just offer Real cash for some of the trophies won during the 1950s.

David Murray should have saved himself all the trouble and just offered our old board a few million for the Lisbon history, just think:

Rangers, European Champions, 1967. Opportunity missed. Murray should have had a word with Club 9.

I’m enjoying these guys already, hope they are given the green light tomorrow.  What terrified Brian Kennedy floats my boat. They even finished off with some sweet platitudes about a “legendary fan base”.  I think we have a winner….

They are so obviously a front for Whyte and are clearly bent on putting the rancid corpse in the blender as soon as they get off the plane from Chicago.

And check the scathing rhetoric used by the admins re: Paul “no money” Murray in the Express article posted above… Ouch!

Craig Whyte will give considerably more cash to Ally McCoist for players than first pledged. Source close to the deal tells me.

Mostly, the same players went from 15 points behind to 21 ahead in the space of about 3 months and had no European football to look forward to. Who could blame them if they had partly switched off? Job done in their minds?

Only thing is, they’ve maybe been a bit premature where a possible treble was concerned and a historic league win at the home of our great rivals. The spotlight would then switch to the inexperienced management team who’s responsibility it is to maintain the focus of the team.

Maybe lessons to be learned all round.

The manager, his backroom team, this young squad of players and us – we all need a right good performance on Saturday and the return of the title to Celtic. Hopefully the boost the players get from this will drive them on to the league and cup double.

They deserve it and the manager certainly deserves it.

“i have stated many time we spend about 7 million on fringe players unlikely ever make an impact at the club. i’d get short of them and happily work with a budget of 2 million less from t.v money”

The trouble with that is discriminating between who is fringe and will never make it and who is about to impact on the squad.

Players like Mulgrew, Matthews, Cha and Ledley were dismissed as Bosmans, therefore, squad makeweights, not first team starters.

Players like Sammi and Broonie were seen recently as expensive failures and needed to be replaced by better.

Rogne and Forrest were seen as projects, unlikely to challenge any time soon.

Fraser Forster was a 3rd choice Newcastle reject who could not possibly be good enough for Celtic.

Yet all have held down first team places in this title winning season. Events, such as injury, suspension and loss of form, have seen previous starters Izzaguire, Kayal, Commons, McCourt, Wilson, Majstorovic all discounted. Big (ish) money buys like Bangura, Rasmussen and Murphy have ended up as failures. But are they all complete failures or temporary non-successes?

Managers love to surround themselves with options and will collect players like Harry Redknapp if you let them. Most fans would be happy to see Rasmussen, Murphy, Cha, Majstorovic, Thompson, McGinn, Wilson (M) and O’Dea go but beyond that group, preferences kick in.

Do you keep Paddy for impact or let Dylan and Paul George break through?

Do you sell Ki because he is too “fine” a footballer for the SPL or do you lobby to change the game to let him thrive?

Do you give Bangura a fair chance following a fit spell or do you give Tony Watt his head?

Do you dismiss Kelvin Wilson as another dud or give him other chances?

Lots of difficult decisions. I remember with dread, the feeling I had when we loaned and sold O’Dea, Thompson and Hooveild, only to lose several squad centre backs to injury and leave our judiciously trimmed squad at its bare bones during an important European period.

This fitba management lark can look simple but its no easy.

  10. Hybrid liquidation ?

And here’s me thinking I had a hybrid in my golf bag lol, I’ll get my coat.

  11. Hooper and Ki will leave in the Summer.

    Possibly Commons too.

We should break-in our young players now…it could be the making of them.

Much more to be gained than from playing them in meaningless friendlies in the close season..

Joe Ledley was signed to be a first team regular…Adam Matthews was already a very promising prospect expected to challenge for a starting place…

We are very fortunate to have acquired them…

  12. My dear,dear,dear,friend.. The Singing Detective.

    Hiya,pally?

Ah am glad that ye brought it up..

Yep.. It looks like we wullnae be giving oot any chances of a game.. tae oor Promising Stable o’ Potential Stars.

And that is a Damn Shame..

We hiv a Gilt edged opportunity tae Blood a Loat o’ our Young Turks.. as we only need Wan Win oota Six tae seal the Championship Deal..

and .. there is Not a Cheep coming fae Any o’ oor Management Team.. as tae hiving any intentions of Granting Some of oor Youngsters a First Team START.

Instead , there is a Proclamation of intent .. fur us tae Rack up a Record Number of Goals or Points, in this Championship Season

The Players whom you Mention.. Watt, George, and Dylan.. are awe mair than capable of Terrorizing the Killie Defence.

Neither, Gary or Stokesy.. in their present state of Form.. appear tae be capable of Terrorizing Daisy Duck or Minnie Moose~

Their form, lately.. Has Bin. Stale.

Whereas.. Watt..for instance.. is oan a Goal Scoring Spree..and George.. since, he returned from a long Lay-Off,due to injury..is playing better than ever.. and we know that Dylan , kin handle.. Senior S.P.L. opposition..

If Lenny, elects tae go with.. the same stale duo.. agin the Killie.. Ah fur wan wull be disappointed ..

    Howevah…

    Sammi,is Playing well…

And must play,of course..and Ah hope that Young Forrest has

recovered from his Injury, and He,also, must be included in the Line-up..

Yep.pal. Ah am in agreemne wi ye..

  13. Where can I buy one of those SPL Season Tickets.

    Sorry bhoys.

As a supporter of Celtic I buy a Celtic Season Ticket. I do not expect my money to go anywhere else but into my club.

Moving FORWARD, BACKWARD, SIDEWARD, VERTICALY, HORIZONTALY or ZIG ZAGGYING ANY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE. My money goes to my club.

If I wanted my money to go to any other club I would buy a share or two in the other clubs. I don’t!

Let the SPL come to a deal on TV and Sponsorship. Fine! But not season book money. Especially so when we all know fine OldHunFC, NewHunFC or NaeHunFC the establishments prejudices will still be their. Your Dunfermline & Kilmarnock chairmen will still be there. Your funny handshake loyal order of knuckle squeezers will still be there.

Hooper and Ki will certainly attract bids in the summer and so will James Forrest and, possibly, Fraser Forster.

How can you be confident of knowing which will go?

All our players were brought with the idea of being first team regulars. Not one of them was given a guarantee of a starting 11 spot or told they would be bench fodder.

Joe Ledley earned his starting place by his performances as did Matthews, Scott Brown, Sammi, Charlie Mulgrew, Fraser Forster, James Forrest, Gary Hooper, Thomas Rogne and Vic Wanyama.

Ki, Kayal and Commons have earned praise for periods of the season.

McGeooch, Lustig, Blackman and Twardzik look worthy of further consideration along with a fit-again Emilio.

  22. as far as i am concerned there are to many players at celtic earning to much for doing to little.

we pay loovens, for example, 700k per year, for what? nothing but the occasional game when we have a very successful under 19 team who clearly have centre backs, willing and able to play on these rare occasions at a fraction of the cost and with the potential to develop. i dont buy the stuff about injury crisis etc…, we could justify having 5 players for every position in that case and at right back we’re getting close!

and to the guy who thinks if we give our money out we’ll be even worse than before when it come to europe, are you serious? is that not what watty said, what 2 million pounds will make a huge difference to our euro performances? we spend about 7 million a year on fringe player as above

p.s. know whats worse than watching two 70 year olds running against each other? another 10, 80 year olds with dementia running a mile further down the road. jock said celtic tops dont shrink to fit, but i think we would all agree they do now because things change

what is so hard to understand if we dont change then we die as well
