Club-by-club consequence of closed door games

187

The club-by-club consequence if the league programme goes ahead behind closed doors:

Livingston will lose two home games, against Dundee and St Johnstone. Ross County will lose two, against Aberdeen and Motherwell.  Although financially, Livi are on the brink, I’m not convinced the net result of their or Ross County’s games being postponed will be particularly damaging to either club.

Hibs will lose a lucrative derby game against Hearts, lots of away ticket revenue and hospitality refunds on the line.  The same is true for Dundee, who have a derby game against United.  Both should want fixtures postponed.

Aberdeen would have to refund thousands of Newco fans, an expense they could well do without.  They would also have to refund some hundreds of Dundee fans.  They should also want fixtures postponed.

Hearts have St Johnstone, who take few fans, the only real cost here would be their (valuable) hospitality sales.  They also have the incentive of playing at an Empty Easter Road.  They are also Hearts…..  could go either way.

Dundee United have St Mirren, which is likely to be cancelled anyway, and Hibs.  Like Hearts, they have the incentive of playing away to a rival in an empty stadium.  Could go either way.

St Mirren today requested the postponement of tomorrow’s game against Celtic and Sunday’s game against Newco.  This request will be upheld, no matter what happens to the rest of the fixtures, but, surely, suffering as they are, they will support postponement?

Newco would be unaffected by Ms Sturgeon’s decision.  Celtic stand to lose two gates, against Hibs and Newco.  It would cost a substantial amount of money and affect the club more than any other.

Celtic’s request to postpone fixtures is unarguable, but we know how Scotland works; anything could happen.

You talk way too much common sense for this site, mate.😊

That was a first class post. You should post more often.

    HH.

  2. Thanks IniquitousV. Just the late night thoughts of a daft sentimental Celtic supporter. Were all the same but different in our support. Its what makes us special.

  3. Good morning cqn from a rather mild Garngad

I think Global ID cards are a great idea as wits said the Government already know everything about you if you have a passport, NI number, Driving license.

Imagine going through life thinking of all that pish about not wanting anyone to know where you are, movement etc (maybe something to hide) but writing it on a world wide web blog, Dearie, dearie me. Life is too short.

Each to their own I suppose.

Anyway a game tonight and 3 points at stake.

  4. I hope common sense prevails and the will of the majority to bring forward the ‘break’ succeeds. Ibrox of course will vote against and we shouldn’t be surprised.

It always puts itself first regardless of the consequences – we have umpteen examples over the years. However there is a less sinister reason in as much as it is the duty of directors to act in the best interests of shareholders at all times. Having the opportunity of a match against a much-weakened St Mirren – playing Celtic at a deserted Celtic Park and not losing their Nigerians, is in the best interests of their shareholders. The overall health situation will not have entered the minds of those at Ibrox.

I would like to think that if the decision goes in favour of the majority this morning, and SKY agree, which I’m sure they will, Celtic will ask that tonight’s fixture against St Mirren is also postponed.

Just to add – as well as issuing the directive which has a massive effect on football clubs in Scotland, the SNPcult could have mentioned bringing forward of the ‘winter break’ to soften the blow – of course it would not have been binding, but it would have added weight to the case and influenced SKY.

However that would be expecting too much. SNPcult have no interest in the people, or, the welfare of Scotland – the ’cause’ comes always comes first.

  5. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

    ———————————–

In Germany there used to be no contradiction in people describing themselves as German and Jewish. Then along came the Nazis and it completely changed – hatred & division became the norm.

In Scotland there used to be no contradiction in people describing themselves as British and Scottish. We celebrated our Scottishness unbridled and in harmony. Then along comes the SNPcult and hatred & division is now rife in Scotland.

The common denominator in these two examples is of course NATIONALISM.

  6. JHB @ 6.52.

The 4th paragraph of your post is an excellent point and well made. I was thinking exactly the same. Nothing stopping her using her influence early this morning if she so chooses. I’m not holding my breath.

I did NOT need the Scot Gov and/or SNP to make me despise The Tory CULT …..

Its funny how you never mention about Brexit causing ” hatred and division” ?????

Your love of Bonkers Brexit Boris the serial LIAR…always shines through.

    CHUMP !

  9. I agree with WBGFC; very harsh on St Mirren.

Still, need to go out and beat them in the first half. This game has ‘plucky heroes’ written all over it

  10. JHB on 22nd December 2021 7:03 am

Thats racist logic for you, 50% of Scots are just the same as nazis.

Not only that but are being called that by a Tory brexiteer.

I’m sure someone on here yesterday was going on about stereotyping.

Wonder what they’ll think about that?

  11. I’m sure games have been cancelled due to Covid outbreaks already so why are St Mirren being forced to play this game?

How bad does the outbreak have to be before the league postpone a game?

    —-

I think the bar is 13 outfield players and a keeper. At the moment St Mirren have that and the game goes ahead. Whether that’s the case after today’s tests come back is another question. Hopefully by lunchtime we’ll know.

  14. Wonder if the real reason games not being postponed

is because the huns want to play theirs v St. Mirren at

the weekend and they cant justify postponing our game but not

    the huns

would bet the huns have their paws in this decision

  15. TIMMY7_NOTED

I dont think there is an out-break. A fake variant that should be ignored. A scare tactic to get more to take a jab that doesnt work. Why are they so desperate to get every last person injected with something doesnt work???? It suggests the jabs for another reason.

  16. Where’s the fake Union man Wishart? He should be all over this to protect his members……..no doubt a call from Robertson has been made…..

  17. I decided on Monday not to read any more comments by JHB due to his constant failure to elucidate his thoughts, then blame the rest of us for not reading his mind.

He does it so often one has to wonder if it’s deliberate.

Reading a plethora of responses to his posts this morning, I can only conclude that I have done the right thing.

The man is a liar and a charlatan.

  18. As mentioned on here last night it looks like the SPL has voted 2-10 against bringing the winter shutdown back, or forward depending where you stand, to Boxing Day. As such tonights game at St Mirren will be in front of the biggest crowd we’ll play for at least a month. I’m not against postponing our home games, as part of a circuit breaker, given there is always the possibility we can attend them later, if no guarantee. But to play in front of the 500? Whose game is it anyway? Answer not ours.

  19. JHB – do, as long as the nationalism is British then nationalism is OK? That’s the logic of your argument ‘against’ nationalism.

Your comparison to nazi Germany is also very crass and completely wrong. The Scottish government aren’t rounding up people who identify as British. The evidence is actually to the contrary- we have witnessed violent expressions of Britishness on the streets of glasgow with minimal or non existant security response from the police or government. Mistaking online vitriol from a relatively small number of people for state fascism is quite the error.

I’m am internationalist and not a massive fan of the SNP but there is such a thing as progressive nationalism. There are in fact many shades of it. Some very nasty right wing stuff, some simple ‘love for place/ heritage/ culture’, some progressive left wing and plenty in between. Realistically I think the SNP brand is ‘centrist’, Liberal and pretty insipid.

  20. BAMBOO

I have a few underlying health conditions which resulted in my being one of the people required to shelter during lockdown. I was also first in the queue for vaccination.

Having been double-jabbed, I contracted Covid-19 after a visit to Celtic Park. My symptoms were mild and lasted just a few days.

While vaccination does not necessarily stop you from catching the virus, I am living proof that it mitigates the effects and stops you from serious illness and death.

  21. If we have to play our games behind closed doors then I’m pretty sure Ange won’t let our bhoys use it as an excuse. I have no doubt it will be a factor but the best thing the players of all clubs can do for their fans is ram any sevco enforced games with no fans right diwn their throats and beat their team on the park.

While they will cry about us wanting to rest players they neglect to mention the likelihood that we will face serious fixture congestion that will be as big a challenge, if not bigger to our title challenge.

I was really down about this last night but I am a bit more stoic this morning. It is what it is and we better get in with it.

  22. TOM MACLAUGHLIN

I’m still alive as well after having zero jabs.

Never believed this nonsense from the start.

The powers that be were clearly up to something and a “virus” plan was being implemented.

We said they were going to drag this out for a few years. All the conspiracies have come to pass .

Its so clearly a scam . At least larger numbers are now hitting the streets. A massive turnout in Glasgow last Saturday. And London gets close on 1000000 demonstrators every month. Of course the tightly controlled media are not reporting this. And they dont give any coverage or exposure the the many renowned experts who disagree with the brainwashing non-stop media propaganda.

  23. PETEC on 22ND DECEMBER 2021 1:35 AM

    BGFC,

“I have no doubt Sevco are manipulating things as much as they can.

Hopefully most Clubs see through them. This is Scotland howevaaaaa, a hotbed of secret societies. Every Boardroom included in that. How are Airdrie represented?

The club that Sir David Murray, of Rangers, sent into administration and then liquidation, probably very eager to be able to get one over on them, I would think. Your general point is taken though. por cierto.
