Cluj, give Jullien a run, Ian Holloway

403

They may have ejected Celtic from the Champions League, but Cluj did not have the look of genuine contenders for the group stage.  They lost 0-1 at home to Slavia Prague last night, with Masopust (no relation) getting the goal.  The Romanians will almost certainly drop to the Europa League.

AIK arrive in Glasgow today smarting from their home defeat on Sunday.  Scouts from both Celtic and AIK will have taken in each other’s games at the weekend, but it is unlikely much of consequence was learned, or at least, I hope AIK learned little about Celtic.

Whatever reasons lay behind Neil Lennon’s team selections at home to Cluj, Boli Bolingoli and Christopher Jullien both have an additional 90 minutes under their belts, so are more likely to make the line-up, especially if concerns remain about Kristofer Ajer’s shoulder injury.  I know this is not a universal feeling, but I want Jullien to be given a run in the team.  We have scouted this player, there is more to come than we have seen.

Ian Holloway’s comments, where he blamed the EU for football’s new handball rule is a perfect metaphor for our time and the entire Brexit debate.  The world is full of clowns who believe simple answers exist to complex problems.  No weight of logic will shift them, and they are not limited to the Brexit loons, football problems are easy to solve, just ask anyone with no experience.

I think Stevie Woods is an excellent goalie coach. If FF is fully fit and focused, I would be confident that Stevie would get FF back to his best.

  2. Welcome home Fraser!

    Can you play left back?

    Centre back?

    Now go get Big Vic!

    Quick, dont overthink this Q:

    We lost Dorus.

    We gained Fraser.

    Upgrade?

So where I think Lennon is getting it wrong is that we are unhappy with the players. Personally I’ve no beef with the players in anyway. If they wear the jersey they will they will get me and no doubt many tens of thousands 100% backing.

    The above is simples.

However with the growing animosity towards the hierarchy ultimately they support will vent this at some point during the game. Eggshells and all that. We would be silly not to recognize this has an effect on the team.

Therefore Lawell has to demonstrate his leadership here and now otherwise the repercussions could be damning.

I know what I would do.

    Hail Hail

  6. It all started to go downhill, when NL was appointed after the season ticket deadline had passed. Is that treating the fans with respect

  7. DBhoy, thanks for the compliment yesterday… hope all’s good in Oz.

    !!BADA BING!! @ 10:45 AM,

That was my initial thought, Steve Woods improved Big Fraser no end, especially his mobility, getting down for low shots etc

If he is getting issues returning to form after injury who better to train him?

    Big Performance needed this evening…

…Good luck to Lenny and the bhoys!!

Lo Celso is an attacking mid, he won’t be in competition with Victor. More likely a replacement for Eriksen

    __

Not true. Lo Celso has played as an attacking midfielder yes but the majority of his appearances have been in a central midfield position.

Maybe Pochettino’s intention is to play him at attacking midfield but its certainly not the position he commonly plays.

There has been little talk about Matthews and Wanyama outside of Celtic fans.

Wanyama is expected to move to Club Brugge

  10. 6′ 7 goalie

    6′ 5 and 1/2 CH

    6′ 5 CH

    6′ 1 RB

Hope so dude – can’t have too many good player in the SPL where there are more cloggers than players. It’s not as if we get any protection from the refs.

The Tom Boyd harmony didn’t last long- on the day of a European game you’d think we’d all be looking forward to seeing our team in action, and maybe even supporting them for a bit while we are there. Maybe not.

  13. A complete joke now…. NO scouting network at all. 19 year old released from Southampton the a goalie who is well past his best.. brilliant before injury no t good since then.. We still haven’t signed a full back another CH mid-fielder or CF .

Craig Gordon, well remembered bout his signing.though I seem to recall he came up for a corner against us was the bigger debate haha.
