Cluj rest entire team ahead of Glasgow game, our new defenders

263

At Saturday’s, league game at home to strugglers, Hermanstadt, Cluj manager Dan Petrescu rested every single player who started against Celtic last week.  Whatever modest noises he makes in the media before tomorrow’s game, Cluj are prepared to throw everything into beating Celtic.

They will arrive in Glasgow today planning to hit Celtic on the break, as they did in Romania on Wednesday.  By contrast, Celtic have three days to recover from their comfortable win at Fir Park.

Neil Lennon called it right being critical of how Celtic opened against Motherwell on Saturday.  At times, our passing and long-ball game were reminder of the early 90s.  Fortunately, there was an ocean of talent to put things right.

Defensively there remains a lot of work to do.  Straight from kick off, Motherwell sent a high ball towards Boli Bolingoli, almost certainly trying to put the new full back under pressure.  Boli is no Kieran Tierney, but you and I have been here through discouraging early performances from Moussa Dembele and Virgil van Dijk, so we know to give the lad time, right?

The same goes for Christian Jullien.  Since leaving Toulouse in May, the big centre half had played 106 minutes football before Motherwell.  He was caught underneath the corner Motherwell scored their 91st minute consolation from – not a good look for a towering defender.

By that stage, fatigue would have been his biggest opponent.  Earlier in the game, he looked composed, including when he made a decision to pass across the face of goal to Scott Bain.  Both players will improve as they get up to speed.

  1. the six counties will go up in flames when ireland unites.

who will protect the catholic community? U.N forces?

the violence will spread to scotland.

this is my take on events.

Not a word of it in your cut and paste from state broadcaster

An no fantasy of English nationalism vomiting itself through brexit can be of help to the island of Ireland imo.

Brexit is chaos,A mindset and thinking steeped in the mire of colonialism and not in anyway connected to today’s interconnected and interdependent world.

And we have the provenance of an ol etonian to carry thro…

  3. How many times have we heard Neil Lennon say,we are working away at adding player’s to the squad, out of the 2,backs at Killie,I would go for O’Donnell,he proved he can score with his left foot,so I see no problem with him converting to playing at left back, Taylor not for me.

    Ok

    You got me.

The backstop is the BIG issue between the EC and UK.

    No it isn`t.

UK will not introduce a hard border .

If there is a no deal Brexit , that will be a problem for the EC and the Republic to solve.

That problem will be nullified when, not if , Ireland leaves the EC. Hopefully after the early departure of Leo..

Tell me. What is the most popular ethnic group in the US ?

    The Irish.

The US of A are your natural friends and that should be your trading future .

The Donald won`t be there for ever.

The understandable antipathy towards the UK will disappear.

Unless it is continually dredged up .

  5. Getting past Cluj tonight guarantees us European group stage football – Champions League if we go on to defeat Slavia Prague and drop into the Europa League if we fail at the Play-Off stage.

The guarantee of European football will heavily influence our transfer activity. Winning through tonight at least gives us 6 more European ties which mean more income and more European experience for our squad – let’s hope it’s Champions League !

This is classic Brexit double-think. Wasn’t Brexit all about getting control of our borders back?… Except when they realise it won’t work in the real world and so actually don’t want a border…

At least macjay you accept you’re a racist, but for anyone else who voted Brexit and has fallen for their lies God help us.

    Why leave a market macjay?

    =============================================

Because that`s what your electorate have told you to do.

    Ok – thanks macjay!

My sister works in a bank in Dublin. She’s not an account or finance manager – she works on protocols across the banking group. So, she isn’t on bizarre money but earns a decent wage – she’s cagey about it because she still goes on the pi** and eats spice bags for breakfast! The whole of the financial sector in Dublin are having a recruitment frenzy because London financial institutions are moving departments, or in some cases, headquarters to other EU capitals, including Dublin. Why would she vote to leave that finacial market like the English have, when her livelihood depends on it?

    She wouldn`t or shouldn`t now.

    Give her time.

    The penny will drop.

Fancy Irish troops facing Putin ?

  10. ‘Are brexiteers welcome on here – didn’t realise I am a racist.’

Can you explain why you want to make myself and the vast majority of people in the uk financially worse off?

Reduce the opportunities for me and my children?

Potentially start a new conflict in Ireland?

Open up the uk to exploitation by the US due to our desperation for a trade deal (in particular their lower food standards ie chlorinated chicken and their desire to get their claws into the NHS)?

Make it easier for the super rich to avoid paying tax?

Lower workers rights? (If you haven’t read it it might worth looking at ‘Brittania Unchained’ to get an idea of how the pro no deal Brexit extreme right wing of the Tory party view the Britsih worker.)

Have another 10 years of this uncertainty due to the time it will take to make other (and worse) trade deals with the rest of the world?

  11. GENE on 13TH AUGUST 2019 11:07 AM

Everyone should be entitled to their own views on that kind of stuff.

Nobody should be forcing their opinions as fact.

All the brexit mince is beyond boring.

And the bottom line is that we all support Celtic .

  12. The Norwegian left back would be a fantastic signing.was a stand out for rosenberg against us.get it done Celts

If that’s what you think will happen then you make your choice based on that. Nothing I post will change that. I respect your decision just ask the same on here.

I’ve seen too many arguments on here ending up as slagging matches that’s why I refrain.

It just annoys me when the default position is

    Brexiteers = Racists

  14. GENE

    I Agree with you mate.

We need to respect each others right to see things differently.

I live in the north of england.

Lets just say that my own preference with regards Brexit is a ‘common’ view.

But I am not going into that here and I am definately no racist as I have 100% belief you are not either.

    Hi Gene,

First off, I wasn’t calling all Brexiteers racist. Apologies if it appeared that way but that was directed exclusively at macjay.

Secondly, that’s fine if you don’t want to address any of my points, that is indeed entirely up to you.
