Lazio responded to their defeat at Celtic Park with a 1-2 win away at Fiorentina on Sunday. They are just two points off a Champions League spot and a point behind neighbours, Roma. Europa League progress will be important to them, but after missing out on the Champions League on a head-to-head with Inter last season, qualification for the Big Cup will be their priority.
Rennes scored an added-time winner at home to Toulouse. They are one of 10 teams within three points of a Champions League space in a cramped Ligue 1 table. PSG are 8 points clear at the top of the French table, but there is little to choose between the others. After losing at home to Cluj, I expect Rennes appetite for the return game next midweek to wane.
Interestingly, Moussa Dembele’s Lyon are adrift in 13th place. Despite Lyon’s toil, Moussa is second top scorer in Ligue 1, ahead of the more celebrated Mbappe and Neymar.
Cluj succumbed to their third league defeat of the season last night, after taking an early lead against mid-table Politehnica Iasi. That result cuts their lead at the top of the Romanian table to two points. Not much, but it is as comfortable a domestic position as anyone in Celtic’s Europa League group.
We are entering the part of the season when injuries, suspensions and the latter stages of cup competitions begin to have an effect. November and December is all about resource management.

Support Res12
I think the Rennes game at paradise will be a rare home game when we have already qualified
It’s as if no one has told Paul67 about the age and the boards stance on Res12, interesting.
Paul67
Rotation, rotation, rotation?
Christie back in, and mothball Edouard we need to test Bayo as back up, to the main man.
No point in having a big squad if we don’t use them.
Paul
‘It’s your blog’ and I know you don’t require to comment on Res 12, but if you choose to avoid the issue it’s inevitable that you will devalue your web presence.
The debate will move elsewhere, along with many of your readers …
Taylor might get a start…

BSR,
I agree I’d like to see Mayo get a few run outs under his belt. We need to start planning for life with Edouard and would be good to see if Bayo could step up.
Any news Mikey J’s return to fitness?

Do you back the board over res 12?

Greg Taylor is fit and travelled with the squad on Sunday, trouble being he’s third choice behind Bolingoli and Hayes taking the bench place.
Happy birthday Gerry

No idea what kind of team we put out against St Mirren. On one hand, we could bring Christie back in as he’s been our player of the season. On the other hand, who do you drop?
…………….
Hi TIMALOY29
I’d be tempted to leave Ryan on the bench on Wednesday and continue with big Tam Rogic just off the front-line, where he can pick out passes like that peach for our fourth on Sunday.
Tam usually takes a few games to get full back into his stride after a lay-off, so maybe good to get more time into his legs – won’t to Ryan any harm, and will help Tam.
Plus – leaves Ryan fresh for the cup semi on Saturday evening.
Might be tempted to give Bauer a game too – he looked good in the short glimpses we have had – great to have three right back options.
If – and it is always a big IF – we manage to get ahead by a couple – hook Eddie and get more time into Bayo.
Finally – might be the chance to see Taylor in action. Although, from what I’ve read, he seems more of a defensive left back than Boli Bolingoli – I’m hoping defense isn’t the No. 1 priority on Wednesday.
Oanywho – good decisions to have ;-)))

Agree that it is Paul’s blog, and the lead article is entirely up to him.
It might be a ‘powder-dry’ moment, of course – I don’t know – so I can’t be critical. A comment – any comment – about Resolution 12 would, however, seem to be appropriate.

I am not qualified, informed or astute to determine the relative merit of ‘to res 12 or not to res 12, that is the question?’ HOWEVER slogans can be problematic (for me anyway).
Persistence beats resistance …unless the resistance is persistent….but what then if the persistence proves resistant…and I suppose the question has to be “does resistant persistence beat persistent resistance?….or vice versa?”
To be honest I prefer the ‘persistence’ synonym, Perseverance.
Not because of anything it would add to the melting pot of res12, but from the dim distant echoes of too close an encounter with theology I recall that ‘Perseverance’ meant “to continue in a state of grace along the path leading to eternal salvation”.
Unless of course you meet resistant persistence along the way…maybe?
Ach…who knows…time for a wee run to Govan and back….I like to keep my hand (and legs) in for that wee heart palpitating dash along Paisley Road West.

I agree it’s a good opportunity to see Ryan rested. St Mirren haven’t picked up any points away from home so this is one of our best chances to rotate this season.
I’d be bolder with Bayo though. Edouard is one booking away from suspension in the Europa League. That’s one booking away from Bayo starting vs Cluj or Rennes. He did well in his starts against Hearts & Thistle. Give him a chance again. I’m probably in the minority but I rate the big man.

Watch out for the trailing leg as you pass by wee Nachos

Bayo apparently has a knock. Giving us no choice but to play Eddy. Hopefully, he can at least do 20 mins off the bench
Bayo injured, Griffiths, Ntcham, Johnson back training
Bayo knowing he’s getting a start feigns injury to avoid us finding out….. Heez nae yoos.
😀
A pity Afolabi out inured as well, might have been a chance for him to get a bit of game time off the bench once the game had been put to bed or maybe that should read providing the game had been put to bed.

To the bhoys looking for Paul67 to enter the res 12 debate !!!!
One of the great things about this Blog is we get an inside view as (I believe) Paul67 has a line to PL
So CQN is a positive honest reliable alternative to MSM
Yes it can be seen as a PL media outlet
But overall this is a good site for site info
For this I am grateful
I too have had one or two comments on Paul67 not addressing the elephant in the room
The McGinn debacle, Paul67 saw nothing wrong with PLs position (I thought PL messed up and we lost a great player)
Negativity towards B Rogers I believe is defending PL from the issue (PL was part of the reason BR went)
No comment on PL transfer (or lack of) activity frustrated me greatly
(In fairness to PL he did pull one or two rabbits out of the hat at the last minute)
So I have my issues with Paul67 avoiding some heavy stuff and obviously Res 12 is heavy
Anyway the point is – you will not get Paul67 challenging our board (wright or wrong)
Take what you want from Paul67s comments (or no comment) but he still provides us with a great Celtic Blog
and more importantly he still supports the same team as you and I
Hail Hail

… the SFA would be frozen by fear
That would explain their glacier like speed regarding Res 12 and CAS
Maybe Ryan could start up front tomorrow as Bayo is injured. That gives Eddie a rest and means TR can play again
if its only a knock , man up man and get on with it.
Yeah c’mon Paul67, give us a comment on Resolution 12 so we can get fired into whatever is your thinking!
BORGO67 – good shout, definitely worth a try at some point, maybe after Eddie has tied up the points.

I would start Eddy.
St Mirren have been hopeless away from home so hopefully, we can take him off for somebody like Christie earlier with the game won
Bayo could be back in contention for the weekend.
It’s unfortunate that Eddy will have to start every game but the supporting cast will be back from injury shortly and we can at least manage how many minutes Eddy plays at that stage.
