Cluj slip as Lazio, Rennes win. Resource management

101

Lazio responded to their defeat at Celtic Park with a 1-2 win away at Fiorentina on Sunday.  They are just two points off a Champions League spot and a point behind neighbours, Roma.  Europa League progress will be important to them, but after missing out on the Champions League on a head-to-head with Inter last season, qualification for the Big Cup will be their priority.

Rennes scored an added-time winner at home to Toulouse.  They are one of 10 teams within three points of a Champions League space in a cramped Ligue 1 table.  PSG are 8 points clear at the top of the French table, but there is little to choose between the others. After losing at home to Cluj, I expect Rennes appetite for the return game next midweek to wane.

Interestingly, Moussa Dembele’s Lyon are adrift in 13th place.  Despite Lyon’s toil, Moussa is second top scorer in Ligue 1, ahead of the more celebrated Mbappe and Neymar.

Cluj succumbed to their third league defeat of the season last night, after taking an early lead against mid-table Politehnica Iasi.  That result cuts their lead at the top of the Romanian table to two points.  Not much, but it is as comfortable a domestic position as anyone in Celtic’s Europa League group.

We are entering the part of the season when injuries, suspensions and the latter stages of cup competitions begin to have an effect.  November and December is all about resource management.

    Forster

    Frimpong Bitton Ajer Taylor

    Christie Rogic McGregor

    Forrest Edouard Elynoussi.

Incidentally, THAT save fron Forster looks even more incredible from the angle someone posted on here the other day.

  4. Some chat about leaving players out, I’m in the few changes as possible camp.

I realise it’s still only October and there are loads of games until the winter break but it seems to me that there’s more energy about the team. Felt at times in the last two seasons we were running on fumes. Perhaps the energy from our new full backs and others returning from injury has enthused those who have played every game or maybe a different style of play and I imagine training doesn’t tire them so much. I suppose December will answer that. Big Kris and even bigger Chris seem to pick up knocks so maybe look after them and obviously Eddie, we have to keep him fit.

  5. Hot Smoked……………

    Thanks for sharing that.

The penalty thing is staring us in the face.

    Bear-faced cheatin’.

If they can give thum to the huns and ABC they will……………

The results can already be seen in the “League Table”.

Cycling? Golf ? They sound like interesting pursuitd; I think I`ll give them a try.

Yip, see you on the Emerald Express .

You`re welcome. I always like it when I read posts that reassure me I am not paranoid (!) so I thought I would do likewise. I wonder what the penalty stats are so far this season? !

Not an ideal time for your 1st Euro trip MARSPAPA :)

  8. Hot Smoked

Those penalty stats are even more shocking when you consider that we have by far the most possession in every game, most shots on/off target. How could Hearts and St. Johnston have more penalties than Celtic hardly set the league alight with their attacking football last season! Sevco? Well it has always been so from Rangers 1872 (RIP) to Sevco out and out cheating

Unfortunately it does appear that a lot of people much prefer simple soundbites instead of doing any research or thinking for themselves.

Here’s a fun quote from Foreign sec Dominic Raab for anyone who isn’t a millionaire and thinking about voting Tory:

‘We work among the lowest hours, we retire early and our productivity is poor. Whereas Indian children aspire to be doctors or businessmen, the British are more interested in football and pop music.”

‘“Once they enter the workplace, the British are among the worst idlers in the world. (…) Too many people in Britain prefer a lie-in to hard work.”’

He was also a member of a Facebook group dedicated to privatising the NHS.

First CQN election fake news perhaps .

Why single out specifically Mr. Raab. in quotation marks for credit ?

Why not include Mr. Kwarteng ?

Patel and Truss mentioned as afterthoughts.

    ——–

Mmmm, nope. Are you asking if they are fit to play or a good fit to play?

We recently played our strongest 11 against Hibs and Livingston and came away with 1 point.

I think some of our fans overestimate the quality of our squad.

    Morning all.

Enjoyed the section of LazyD’s post last night about NL’s appointment.

It is working well. I was OK with him getting the job but, at the time, no more than that.

Good job Neil – keep it up.

On that basis, and given he sees the players every day in training, am happy to leave selection to him.

Jobo, D66 and, today, H-A-G – please keep up the good work with the morning weather reports! They never fail to make me smile.

    Hail hail

Good luck to the Celts tonight. Heading out soon, looking forward to the only show in town.

123211 is the new 2341 so it’s Bitton in the box to occupy Forster with a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Brown and Ajer patrolling the hinterland. That’s enough defenders.

Slugger Elyounoussi, Razor McGregor and Fists of Fury Forrest to form an impregnable wall from where we launch flying wingers Mbombo and Frimpong in support of Rogic and Der Bomber Christie.

48 hour pass for Oddsonne. Hope he reaches Paris.

  17. I’d go –

    Forster

    Frimpong, Bitton, Ajer, Taylor

    Brown, McGregor

    Forrest, Christie, Shved

    Edouard

In the event that we go 3 ahead, remove Frimpong and Eddie and stick on Bauer and Hayes.

  18. I would settle for Jobo’s plan but wouldn’t be averse to playing Elhamed at centre half either.

I definitely think we need to get Taylor up & running. On the right there is a bit of a quandary Frimpong has been a revelation any time he has played so do we give him an extended run or give Bauer who has done nothing wrong either some game time, with 3 in form ghuys contesting the slot maybe as I said earlier give Elhamed a run at centre half.

In fairness Lenny seems to be making all the right calls so on this one in Lenny I trust.

  19. Hot Smoked

Those penalty stats, is that only for league games ?

    Or all domestic games ?

  20. Either way, it is still staring us in the face.

    Stop Celtic at all costs.

The cheating needs to be challenged by our club.
