Co-op awards Celtic the League Cup Final

940

Really pleased the Scottish Professional Football League have awarded the League Cup Final to Scotland’s largest football stadium, Celtic Park.  We are now hosting the League and Scottish Cup finals, as well as the head of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

So with the Commonwealth and Scottish Cup gigs going to Celtic, why didn’t Newco Rangers get the other final at their 50,000 capacity facility?

Back in the days such certification existed, Ibrox was a Uefa five star venue, whereas Celtic Park was four star, but maintaining those standards takes, well, maintenance, which has not been a priority in some parts.  Celtic Park remains highly functional, and safe.

There is also the hazard of planning an event, even six weeks out, at a venue owned (cough) by a company which does not have bank credit facilities and who are broadcasting financial distress signals like some kind of insolvency Batman call.

These perfectly valid reasons are, of course, a mere distraction from the real reason, the Co-op Bank, which controls Glasgow City Council, is also able to manipulate league football in Scotland and decided to award the final to their partner organisation, while cutting their borrowing rate, by way of compensation.

Issue 19 of CQN Magazine is fresh off the press, 104 pages of great stuff from the CQN community.  10 men won the league, Dam Justice, the Celtic Foundation, and Brogan Rogan outs the difficult questions to Pat Nevin about his Cup Final comments.

Kudos for the Nevin interview in the interests of openness and transparency.

IMO his motives are (still) suspect and ever more telling, now an irrelevance with regard to where Celtic FC are today.

Do us a favor and stick to blethering about the over hyped EPL.

  3. Hun skelper,

  5. Troubled Sevco have issued a statement through a PR consultant to rubbish claims that Chief Executive Graham Wallace is poised to quit the club.

The bizarre move came after a late afternoon tweet from Phil MacGiollaBhain which claimed: “Graham Wallace has a statement prepared and is ready to walk. Crisis meetings all day at Stalag Sevco. #Breaking.”

Later on he added: “For the avoidance of doubt: There was meeting today in Glasgow; Graham Wallace,Nash,Somers and an Easdale brother. Another meeting tonight.”

In a statement released to favoured media outlets shortly after 6pm Jack Irvine rubbished the story throwing in the unrelated fact that Wallace was watching an u-20 match tonight with Ally McCoist.

MacGiollaBhain and the now closed Rangers Tax Case blog have been setting the pace on the Ibrox cash crisis over the last few years unveiling a number of facts leading upto the administration and liquidation of the old club.

Despite sending out clear warnings to supporters about the motives of the main characters involved Rangers fans turned their anger on MacGiollaBhain while Dave Murray, Craig Whyte and Duff & Phelps put the club into liquidation.

The finances of Sevco have come under greater scrutiny since the club held their AGM before Christmas with Wallace warning that the club’s running costs couldn’t be justified in the top tier of Scottish football never mind the third.

Since then Financial Director Brian Stockbridge has left the club with Philip Nash hired on a consultancy basis to examine the clubs’ finances.

At the weekend one newspaper claimed that the club could be put in administration within a fortnight with tonight’s denial from Irvine highlighting how concerned the club is by speculation.

Over the last two days the AIM has recorded a number of sales of shares in Sevco with only one purchase with the shares trading at 25p after being launched 14 months ago at 70p.

Many of the original investors in Sevco have sold their shares although it’s believed that Ally McCoist retains around 1,000,000 shares bought for 1p each.

Not true – is that right.

How many home games have you attended since the Fergus McCann era?

Let me guess, *some where between none and not very many*

You’re pontification about what has been sung at CP is unsubstantiated nonsense, based

on what you have heard from others is sung at CP, MSM or the internet. The mission statement has been upheld for many years, perhaps it’s ‘not true’ from when you last stood in the jungle.

    – – –

    Bournesoup,

Read back what I said carefully. I did not say that there was widespread singing. I said that intentionally incase anybody thought otherwise. I have not heard that chant being sung by thousands at Celtic Park. Only individuals. At no time did I state that sectarian singing was a massive problem post Fergus. In my experience it wasn’t. However I answered Natknow’s query honestly. I heard it. That was what Natknow asked about.

Your guess was wrong. I had a season book for about 8 years so your comments were mostly inaccurate. I am in Russia now but have been back and forth to Scotland previously.

It is a strange kind of Celtic supporter who criticises our support on live TV during a Cup Final and states that he will continue to confront bigotry in this manner but turns a deaf ear to our great rivals. However, i just fail to begin to understand what he got out of informing the nation that he no longer supports Celtic and now supports Hibs.
