Really pleased the Scottish Professional Football League have awarded the League Cup Final to Scotland’s largest football stadium, Celtic Park. We are now hosting the League and Scottish Cup finals, as well as the head of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
So with the Commonwealth and Scottish Cup gigs going to Celtic, why didn’t Newco Rangers get the other final at their 50,000 capacity facility?
Back in the days such certification existed, Ibrox was a Uefa five star venue, whereas Celtic Park was four star, but maintaining those standards takes, well, maintenance, which has not been a priority in some parts. Celtic Park remains highly functional, and safe.
There is also the hazard of planning an event, even six weeks out, at a venue owned (cough) by a company which does not have bank credit facilities and who are broadcasting financial distress signals like some kind of insolvency Batman call.
These perfectly valid reasons are, of course, a mere distraction from the real reason, the Co-op Bank, which controls Glasgow City Council, is also able to manipulate league football in Scotland and decided to award the final to their partner organisation, while cutting their borrowing rate, by way of compensation.
Issue 19 of CQN Magazine is fresh off the press, 104 pages of great stuff from the CQN community. 10 men won the league, Dam Justice, the Celtic Foundation, and Brogan Rogan outs the difficult questions to Pat Nevin about his Cup Final comments.

Spoiler alert, Tony D on no account read the CQN mag as there’s an interview with the Patron Saint of University Bhoys, Jeanette Findlay on page 43

And if you want to print off a copy and bring it along to the supporters meeting tonight 7pm at the CSC on London Road, I’m sure she will sign it for you!
Holy insolvency event, Batman!
Looks like the evil sevconians are kaappooowwed!

Sorry was away munching my lunchie :-)
Eh last I looked Policing was devolved to the Scottish Parliament.
To blame Westminster for the attacks on Neil Lennon is erroneous and misleading.

Pat Nevin used to be a supporter of gay marriage, but now attends an Edinburgh sauna for the pure love of their concept of the game.

Paul67 Long may the cooperation between the Co-Operative and their Partner Organisation continue, just not sure if it will stay under wraps for much longer……..;-)
We are now hosting the League and Scottish Cup finals, as well as the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games so in financial terms how much do we make on this.
Lunch over… Mibbe try twitter later

I see Whyte has been reappointed a director of SevCo 5088 (not to be confused with SevCo Scotland, where our club ended up).
Whats he up to and why does he seem desperate to hold onto this company?
I cant remember the exacts of the situation, but was SevCo 5088 not named as a subsiduary to our company for a short period?
He is clutching at straws no doubt, he has no claim, but what kinda stuff is he gonna try to dig up to muddy the waters?
Off the back of a twelve-hour nightshift-and a few hours kip in prep-I was catching up on the blog from about 11am.
Speaking as a confirmed Moonhowler-by choice, circumstance, and twisted nature-I must admit to missing being able to join in with the sensible posters on the 6pm to midnight section.
So wtf went wrong last night?
Hard on the heels of an always interesting if controversial few hours of Indy ref posts,we then turned into a mess of totalitarian intolerance towards a significant minority.
I genuinely hope that those responsible either
Were blootered at the time,or
Have read back and take a bloody good look at themselves.
I will not deny anyone the right to hold an opinion, but I thought society had moved on from some of those expressed last night.
It would not surprise me with all the problems over at Ipox that Celtic Park is not on standby for the Rugby sevens Commonwealth Games just in case the brown stuff hits the fan.
If the Sleekit wan was in Taiwan would he have been one of the 10? I think yes…

Geez, if there is a hun out there who still has the brass neck to watch what is happening to their ‘great’ club they must be utterly devoid of any brain cells whatsoever (quite likely, I know).
I’ll ask the obvious question, what has happened to bring about the (re)appointment of CW as director of Sevco 5088 ?
Is this the final nail in the coffin for RIFC PLC?
Do they in fact own anything more than the copious amounts of crap they have been spewing since they came into existence?
Does this mean those historic gates at Mordor will be locked up for good?
Re Nevin
Sorry
You dont change from being a Celtic fan in my book
You may stop going for family or financial reasons or the like
You don’t start supporting another team
With all due respect ( and I really mean that) Nevin saw the chance to meet with a respected Celtic blog to rehabilitate his reputation and clearly made some impression on the authors
He speaks of his inside knowledge of the support and the issues we face – he rarely needed any encouragement to get the boot in
A phoney
Boats and bridges burned.
Nevin interview….waste of time imo
added nothing to the issue
Nevin`s on air comment implied he supported the BBC assertion that CFC fans were engaging in sectarian singing that the game
Dropped in it or toeing the party line to ingratiate himself with his paymasters …i know which i prefer
as for his mysterious reasons for not supporting CFC ….HHmmmm

Hamiltontim – MWDs post was in response to all the people telling us sectarianism will be so much worse in an independent Scotland.
As you rightly point out, policing is already devolved, so is education and plenty of others.
The question to be answered is what powers do the bigots need that only Independence can supply or what specifically is the Westminster government doing to hold the forces of anti-Catholicism at bay? Until this question can be sensibly answered all the criticism that Billy Bhoy has received can equally be applied to the scare stories that a vote for independence is a vote to end Catholic schools or whatever.
PS not suggesting you’re the source of any of scare stories.
Just finished reading the Patrick Nevin interview. A fascinating read.
JJ
I meant to add that I think posts in response to the interview would be much more relevant (and much more revealing?) to the raison d `etre of CQN than the Independence debate.

sorry, still think it was a waste of time
BRTH & winning captains,
Enjoyed the Nevin interview, I would personally not condemn him too heavily unless I was aware of the pressures connected to working in that business, especially in Scotland. I think it’s interesting to note that our only real vocal supporters, Tom Boyd and Tosh McKinlay don’t get any decent time in the media but they do constantly big us up at every opportunity, especially on Celtic TV.
The memories of the 4-2 game are also excellent and well worth a read. Good Stuff.

I don’t have the inclination to get involved in the YES/NO debate on here. I asked a few questions on here yesterday in the hope that I would leave more informed but sadly I merely got other people’s opinions as opposed to answers and facts.
My point though was that it’s simply wrong to blame a Westminster government for the ills of Neil Lennon when the SNP were/are in charge of policing in Scotland.

He heard nothing. Nor did Rob McLean. Someone decided to make an issue of this fictional singing. McLean was savvy, Nevin less so. Certainly not asking you to like him but we now know what happened, who did the whispering and probably why. That is worth outing.
I’ve just read the Nevin interview, Winning Captains and Brogan, great article. One thing jumped out at me though, I’m almost the same age as Pat and we would have attended many of the same games, did I read that correctly that he didn’t know the words to BOTOB? If true I find that incredible, even subconsiously you would learnt the words during the period he attended Celtic Park and stoood in the Jungle.
Anyway off to read it again, he has went some way to rehabilitate himself with the Celtic support with that interview, IMHO.
Re Nevin
I understand that by some it will be seen as a coup to get his views on record; worthwhile to hear what he’s had to say about his disgraceful slur on the Celtic support; find out how he replied to the questions which were set by CQNers and whether he really is a postman :-)
Personally, if I want to hear views on Celtic I’ll talk to Celtic supporters.

I couldn’t possibly say I’ve never met the man. To cast aspersions on someone’s character when I haven’t even met them that would just be wrong would it not, and certainly not the Celtic or CQN way :-)
Have now read “editors lamppost”
Further reinforces my opinion that Nevin has seen CQN as a potential means to rehabilitate himself in eyes of Celtic support
Not buying it, sorry
WinningCaptains,
Thanks for the info re the editorial.
And thanks to the three of you for the interview.
After reading the interview, my opinion of Pat has changed and I wasn’t aware of his offer to discuss the issue with any willing Celtic supporters’ clubs.
