Co-op awards Celtic the League Cup Final

940

Really pleased the Scottish Professional Football League have awarded the League Cup Final to Scotland’s largest football stadium, Celtic Park.  We are now hosting the League and Scottish Cup finals, as well as the head of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

So with the Commonwealth and Scottish Cup gigs going to Celtic, why didn’t Newco Rangers get the other final at their 50,000 capacity facility?

Back in the days such certification existed, Ibrox was a Uefa five star venue, whereas Celtic Park was four star, but maintaining those standards takes, well, maintenance, which has not been a priority in some parts.  Celtic Park remains highly functional, and safe.

There is also the hazard of planning an event, even six weeks out, at a venue owned (cough) by a company which does not have bank credit facilities and who are broadcasting financial distress signals like some kind of insolvency Batman call.

These perfectly valid reasons are, of course, a mere distraction from the real reason, the Co-op Bank, which controls Glasgow City Council, is also able to manipulate league football in Scotland and decided to award the final to their partner organisation, while cutting their borrowing rate, by way of compensation.

Issue 19 of CQN Magazine is fresh off the press, 104 pages of great stuff from the CQN community.  10 men won the league, Dam Justice, the Celtic Foundation, and Brogan Rogan outs the difficult questions to Pat Nevin about his Cup Final comments.

NegAnon2 last night asked for proof that Celtic had written to the BBC to complain about the coverage when Rob McLean and Pat Nevin broadcast lies about the Celtic support. I posted a couple of links to reports at the time that suggested a complaint had been made and that the BBC had responded. Hardly proof – but then real proof can only come from either Celtic or the BBC. Neither organisation have issued a statement as far as I’m aware.

Now that Rangers have gone, there is a chance our heretofore OK relationship with Aberdeen will disappear. Indeed, maybe last Saturday`s affair will turn out to be all that was needed to spur our more emotional supporters into a vocal response this Saturday and thereby lead to Aberdeen taking the place of the Hun as our nemesis. Would that be a good thing? Great atmosphere but one fueled by anger?

  3. Today is my 51st birthday and got up this morning to some lovely cards and prezzies from my wife, daughter’s and grand daughter’s.

Got a couple of tops for my hols in the summer and went to hang them up in the wardrobe, as I was doing that I noticed my darling late mothers coat (she died in 2010) and I couldn’t help myself and pressed it against my face, I could still smell her perfume and I am not ashamed to say I lost it for a bit.

so to all of you out there that have lost a mother you will know what I mean, and to all of you out there who are still blessed to have your mum’s in your lives please treasure them.

  5. If we beat Aberdeen on Saturday, we would then play the semi at the CrumbleDome.

Personally, I don’t think I would go, but would be prepared to if I knew a percentage of my ticket money wouldn’t go to the Spivs.

Can anyone enlighten me as to whether SevcoFC receive a straight fee for holding the match there or is it dependant on ticket sales.

    Thanks.

im with you on this one. Nevin is a spineless little git. Brought up in Glasgow he knew the pitfalls, he was not duped, he takes the soup. He should have body swerved the BBC entrapment exercise.

  9. Macjay, he may be a relation if he is from Glasgow but he is not known to me. Have a fine day out there in Oz.

Is there any news about Tom and his family situation?

    Have a good day everybody.

I went to a couple of Chelsea games in the early 2000`s. All I can say about their fans is that they were fairly quiet and there was no evidence of right wing stuff. In fact, Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink scored an equaliser ( I think) against Chelsea and the Shed applauded!

I believe the Celtic support`s general dislike of Chelsea is mainly to do with the Huns having aligned themselves with them. My experience of Chelsea fans in England was that they had no interest whatsoever in der Hun. In fact, probably because of my allegiance , they were more interested in Celtic.

That is ane cell’s whole vocabulary in one line.

  12. johnnyclash-Nevin was saying he stopped watching Celtic as it was against his principles. How are those same principles when he writes a (presumably paid) column inthe Chelsea programme/magazine,their fans obvously don’t have any issues…….

I’m not so sure Aberdeen can sustain this good run their on at present, having said that if they can hang on to their manager that will increase the likelihood of that happening. Saturday will give us a good indication if going forward they will be our main challengers rather than say Butchers Hibs once they get going, or Jackie Macs Dundee United once there youngers players become more consistent.

Any time I’ve been to Pittodrie the ‘hate’ has been tangible towards whoever the oppostion was, greatly increased when the huns are there, toned down a little but not much when we’re there. A very bitter support, spoiled rotten during the Fergie years. Don’t see our support treating them any differently than they normally do, that will only change if they start beating us regularly, which I can’t see ever happening.

  16. Blantyre Tim – cheers – I’ll look out for a venue posted whilst strolling back from the game

  17. Someone the other day said he had had a dream that we were to meet Sevco in the next round of the Cup. Funnily enough, I had a dream that the winner of Sevco/Dunfermline were to play Stenhousemuir. Fascinating, eh?

Right, away out on the bike now. Equally fascinating.

Well according to the MSM Newco have only sold 10,000 tickets for tomorrows game it looks likely that they will be lucky to get 20,000 through the gates. So much for we wont walk away. H.H.

Having slept on this I would agree with that statement and the proof is in his continued work for BBC Scotland.

Although he acknowledges he does not get as much now , he still grabs at whatever is on offer.

    Good riddance

Has anyone else noticed that no Sevco shares have been bought/ sold today? Have they suspended trading?
