Coaching, Brendan’s open canvass

580

Apologies for recent radio silence.  Lots going on with some weighty matters which will soon be of interest to you, unfortunately didn’t have time to blog for a few days.

So much going on simultaneously but I can’t really focus on anything with the daunting evening ahead tomorrow. Season Two of the Brendan Rodgers era will be considerably influenced by the events in Trondheim. Rosenborg are a shadow of their former glory, but Celtic must patch a team together and win (or secure a score draw) in Norway to reach the Champions League group stage.

Most Celtic fans I speak to expect us to win the game, but we’re an optimistic lot (cough). Let’s hope that’s based on sound reason.

I was surprised to hear Shaun Maloney has been speaking to Brendan Rodgers about a youth coaching role at Celtic. Shaun was a rare graduate of the Celtic youth system under Martin O’Neill, breaking through as an 18-year-old in 2001. He will also know more about Lennoxtown than practically any player, as he gorged on gym time there during lengthy periods of injury, while others were resting.

Does he have what it takes to be a good youth coach? This is a difficult one to answer. Look east. Ian Cathro had an exemplary record as youth and assistant coach under some talented managers, assisting at Valencia and Newcastle. But Cathro’s success was down to the management structure he flourished under. On his own, at Hearts, he perished. Sacked four days before the league kicks off.

If Shaun joins the Celtic coaching setup he will begin a new tutelage under Brendan Rodgers. The manager may be looking for an intelligent, open, canvass, to work with.

  1. The highly impressive and our next super star Kouassi Eboue to make an appearance in a high octane midlfield tomorrow night

    Gordon

    Lustig Jozo Erik KT

    Broonie Eboue

    Forrest Rogic Sinclair

    Griffiths

You heard it here first !

p.s We’ve always had eijits in the Celtic support and I’ve always found our self-policing of them pretty good down the years. Anybody wanting to make political capital out of it is ridden (love that word) with agendas….

  2. I reckon Forrest and Armstrong will start. Rogic, Ntcham and Hayes on the bench.

    Gordon

    Lustig Jozo Ajer KT

    Broonie Armstrong McGregor

Possession will be key tomorrow night. For that reason I would go for McGregor in place of Rogic. I feel McGregor retains possession better than Rogic. Does that change sacrifice creativity though??

    ——–

I think Rogic is perfectly suited to 4-2-3-1, playing just behind the main central striker.

I’d prefer 4-3-3 away in Europe, where we have less possession. McGregor suits this better, playing a bit deeper and getting counter-attacks going with his quick movement of the ball.

If Griffiths isn’t fit I’d go 3-5-2 as we don’t have an obvious central striker. Sinclair and Forrest up front.

  4. Gordon

    Lustig Simunovic Ajer Tierney

    McGregor Brown Armstrong

    Hayes Griffiths Sinclair

Subs De Vries, Ralston, Sviatchenko, Ntcham, Eboue, Rogic, Forrest

  5. Or alternatively, the swamp the midfield approach :

    Gordon

    Jozo

    N’cham Eboue Brown Armstrong

    Forrest McGregor Rogic Sinclair

    Griff

It’s a long shot but it might just come off, and solves all those midfield conundrums….

To be fair though the chant about lee rigby is on the same human sub level as some of Dick’s commentary on here with regards Muslims and immigrants in the past. Both unnaceptable! But alas Dick is on his Trojan horse of corrupt morals having a go at his perception of GB associated supporters. His commentary therefore shames Celtic as much as these few idiots.
