Cocky Dutch

1147

I’m older than Virgil van Dijk and I’ve seen more football scenarios than he has, so in this respect it is forgivable for him to be talking about Celtic going through the entire league programme undefeated, but Virgil was in the Celtic team who lost at home to Morton less than two months ago, so he really should know the only place to do your talking is on the football field.

Celtic have a rather important game on Tuesday, which the manager will quite rightly be preparing for, making tomorrow’s game against Aberdeen an open race.  If Virgil’s (reported) mind-set is shared by many in the dressing room the 7/1 odds against Aberdeen look generous.

Better all-round if we knock any ‘undefeated all season’ talk on the head.  It’s fine fare for fans but not for players.

Feeling gutted for the five Celtic fans who failed to get justice in Amsterdam yesterday.  The rest of us can busy ourselves campaigning on their behalf but verdict will be a blow to the five and their families.

Have you heard the ‘Tommy Burns – single’, in aid of the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust?  Available on iTunes, 99p.  Wire in.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the current edition of CQN Magazine, not that I want to divert you away, but…  The Football Pink magazine is well worth a read.  We don’t get to read about Hugo Meisl and the Winderteam enough.  Hugo’s in the current issue, along with an excellent article on The history of Irish centre backs, the player loan system, and an article on Gunter Netzer, the midfield general who brought West German football into the modern era.

Columba Club, Blantyre, tonight, 8pm, me, Phil, Paul, Lourdes Fund, Q&A, general revelry.  Tickets on the door.

    Guys,

Just to reiterate what Paul says at the bottom of the header.

For every copy of the CQN Annual ordered online by way of the above link between now and Midnight on Sunday, we will make a donation of £2 to the Amsterdam defence fund.

So if you haven’t ordered a copy but feel like doing so and want to contribute to the fund then part of the purchase price is going to the defence appeal.

Im very disappointed with the boy lawyer. I dont think he was up to the challenge. Would have been better with Tommy Sheridan! You know how Tommy just loves the polis?. He wd have grilled them into the quick!!

  5. I read those tweets yesterday. Filled with optimism at the start, then gut wrenching stuff when the judge comes out with the bog standard back the police stance. If I won the euromillions I would back those lads to the European Court of Human Rights. Utterly shameful. I was talking to a taxi driving mate after the Ajax fans came to Glasgow and he said the day after he cancelled his trip to Amsterdam. Wise move.

Anyhoo I’m off to Donegal for a family reunion. Good luck to all those bucketeers on Saturday. I hope you pull in a fortune for those lads.

I don’t like these lists, it is putting pressure on people who maybe can’t afford but will put Money to the coffers because it is CQN. The Lord recognises the amount everyone puts towards others. I say ditch the lists.

    Just my opinion.

    Dam Square Live Cam

When you consider the clarity of this webcam it beggars belief that the Dutch thug-police claimed that the ‘riot’ was hidden because it was obscured by a parked police van and this was accepted by the magistrate!

Surely this footage is recorded and stored, the solicitor should demand release of any such video if there is an appeal.

  11. Tesco PLC is not responsible for the behaviour of its shareholders or its customers; likewise, Celtic FC is too a PLC, and likewise, they too are not accountable for the behaviour of its shareholders or its customers. (or are they?)

Is Celtic FC really more than a Football Club?

Or is Celtic FC just another bland PLC disguised as a global family that is more than just a football club?

He’s my brother, and if he wasn’t, he could have been, but as far as the Celtic Family goes… he was, he is, he, who was arrested is part of the family and either the club’s office holders are part of the family too… or they are just mercenary PLC contractors.

  14. FAVOURITE UNCLE on

I travelled to Amsterdam in 1982 on a supporters bus with no loo.

No Easy Jet or Ryanair in those days, tough journey there and back but great result in the old Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam.

From a football perspective certainly not a welcoming city even back then..

Having travelled a lot over the years following Celtic in Europe, the only country in my opinion who know how to police football properly and fairly is Germany. They are used to large travelling supports on a weekly basis and from my experience when we played in Dortmund they tend to understand football fans and how to police properly.

    Glasgow Trouble

We invited 3,000 Ajax fans with tickets to Glasgow and 2,500 behaved themselves and were true supporters , 500 were fannies who wouldn’t last a minute on there own in any Glasgow pub on a Saturday night.

    Amsterdam Trouble

They invited 2,500 Celtic fans with tickets to Amsterdam and all behaved themselves.

Another 10,000 Celtic fans travelled without a match invitation to have a party.

Some of the 10,000 uninvited (without a match invitation) additional happy people who had turned up for a party were targeted by the local fannies (hooligan fans and hooligan police). They proceeded to take their anger and brutality out on the partygoers.

    Lessons to be learned :

Don’t go to uninvited football party’s in shit hole cities where some of the local fans and police are fannies.

Don’t give presents of 2 million euros to shit hole cities where the fannies stay.

Message to Celtic Players please do your best to finish second in our group with Milan finishing third.

To the many good people of Amsterdam and true supporters of Ajax you have been badly let down by your hooligan fans and hooligan police.

Justice will prevail !! … Hail Hail

  16. Talking of Cocky Dutch Paul, reminds me I was on a weekender in Amsterdam with some of the Llads. Walking down the redder we happened across a bar called The Cock Ring. Big Gothic looking door, I was at the front and pushed the door open and wandered in through the busy bar, which was extremely dark and lots of dry ice. Eventually looked around to find myself on my own, being stared at by the male clientele dressed in leather pouches, chains and bushy facial hair.

When I eventually got back out to my waiting mates falling around in laughter as you do at such japes, they wanted to know what took me so long. Ah, well, its ladies night and they are all practically starkers. In they rush-

  20. AC Milan have suffered a double blow ahead

of Saturday’s game against Genoa with

goalkeeper Marco Amelia and defender Cristian

    Zaccardo injured.

Both players got hurt in training this week and

will miss the match as well as the Champions

League encounter at Celtic on Tuesday.

A statement from Milan read: “AC Milan

announces Cristian Zaccardo has suffered a

    sprain in his left ankle.

“The defender’s condition will be evaluated in

the next coming days to determine a

    prognosis.

“Marco Amelia will undergo surgery in his left

knee today (Friday) having sustained a

    meniscus injury.”

The Rossoneri go into the encounter at the

San Siro on the back of their worst start to

    Serie A in 31 years.

Their goalless draw at bottom-side Chievo

last time out extended their winless run to

    four games.

Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo, who will sit

out the clash against Genoa through

    suspension, insists his team-mates should

not obsess over their current position in the

    table.

The Rossoneri are 10th, 15 points behind

Napoli, who are third and hold the last

    Champions League qualifying spot.

“We are all aware of the difficult situation we

are in,” he said. “We have to concentrate on

    winning to turn things around.”

A win would ease the pressure on Milan coach

Massimiliano Allegri, who faces a testing week

with the Rossoneri involved in the Champions

    League.

Allegri’s troops travel to Glasgow in second

place in Group H, five points adrift of leaders

Barcelona and just one point clear of nearest

rivals Ajax, who are third with two games

    remaining.

Mario Balotelli returns from suspension and is

expected to lead Milan’s attack against Genoa

    alongside Kaka and Alessandro Matri.

The Italy international has not found the net

for Milan since scoring at Ajax on October 1.

In-form Genoa won 2-0 over Hellas Verona

    last time out.

The Grifoni have won their last three games

and their good run of form has seen them

climb to seventh place, four points clear of

    Milan.

Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini is confident

his side can keep up their fine form.

“I’m confident we can do well against Milan,”

    he said.

“But we must remain humble and know we

face a very difficult test this weekend.”

  21. April 1970 and a rampant Celtic were due to meet Aberdeen in the Scottish cup final just 10 days after beating the best England had to offer in the first leg of the European Cup semi final.

    Aberdeen were 7-1 against.

We all know the outcome and if you have blanked it out, Jimmy Smith ran the show.

We consoled ourselves the following Wednesday when we returned to form to steam roller Leeds United at Hampden.
