Cocky Dutch

I’m older than Virgil van Dijk and I’ve seen more football scenarios than he has, so in this respect it is forgivable for him to be talking about Celtic going through the entire league programme undefeated, but Virgil was in the Celtic team who lost at home to Morton less than two months ago, so he really should know the only place to do your talking is on the football field.

Celtic have a rather important game on Tuesday, which the manager will quite rightly be preparing for, making tomorrow’s game against Aberdeen an open race.  If Virgil’s (reported) mind-set is shared by many in the dressing room the 7/1 odds against Aberdeen look generous.

Better all-round if we knock any ‘undefeated all season’ talk on the head.  It’s fine fare for fans but not for players.

Feeling gutted for the five Celtic fans who failed to get justice in Amsterdam yesterday.  The rest of us can busy ourselves campaigning on their behalf but verdict will be a blow to the five and their families.

Have you heard the ‘Tommy Burns – single’, in aid of the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust?  Available on iTunes, 99p.  Wire in.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the current edition of CQN Magazine, not that I want to divert you away, but…  The Football Pink magazine is well worth a read.  We don’t get to read about Hugo Meisl and the Winderteam enough.  Hugo’s in the current issue, along with an excellent article on The history of Irish centre backs, the player loan system, and an article on Gunter Netzer, the midfield general who brought West German football into the modern era.

Columba Club, Blantyre, tonight, 8pm, me, Phil, Paul, Lourdes Fund, Q&A, general revelry.  Tickets on the door.

one has to hope that the lawyer was experienced and made an informed decision

personally, never fancy success in trials before sheriffs alone when the charge is fighting with the polis

Dutch law may be different …i`d be surprised if it was tho

  2. If I buy the CQN annual then I will experience an icy coldness from Mrs.Ryecatcher,as it will be one less ‘surprise’ present for me to open on Xmas morning.I think Santa driving up my driveway on a forklift truck might be a dead giveaway though, judging by reports on the weight of this mighty tome.

I won’t make it on Monday unfortunately. I can’t take the time off work.

My dad will be in attendance. Very sad when I heard the news.

Known Alex for a good many years and travelled to games with him on the Livi Emerald a long time ago when he was a younger man.

  4. Disappointing lead article after the events of last night,i might be alone in that opinion but this blog has rightly IMO ,been seen as the voice of the supporters.I also recognise work done by guys on here to help the Dam 6 btw.

” Milan know how to get results ”

Mmm, they have won 3 of 12 Serie A games this season., they have won 1 of 4 Champions league games.. It took a classic ” big club penalty ” to earn them an undeserved draw in Amsterdam . Ajax were far the better team but failed to take their chances.

yip, that was my sense of it, although the cost of representation etc at a full hearing may have been an influence.

My brother was a regular on the Emerald in the mid to late nineties. I travelled on the Emerald a fair bit as well but not as much as I was in England for a few years from ’94-’99.

Shared a few tales with one of the guys in the office who was an Emerald regular back then as well. We had a good chuckle recalling some of “the scalps” exploits!

Maybe the guy is saying the perception of violence is worse now because there is always someone there to record any incident. In the past you’d only know what was really going on if you were there. Even if someone was telling you the truth recounting an incident, you’d assume they were exaggerating.

thanks for asking. I’ve a wee feeling that my son noe feels he likes it more here than he misses home. Daughter has never loked back since we arrived in a house 2 minutes from the beach.

Everybody on here complains about the games should be forced to stay away for a month, avoid all their mates then sit up at 11pm to watch a recording. Missing the walk up, the game then into town for a few beers after.

    Ya lucky people.

I must know you mate. I ended up going on the No1 bus but we shared buses for away matches and stuff. I knew a lot of the Emerald Bhoys well and went to Hamburg in 1995 and other trips down South with them over the years. Still keep in contact with a good few Bhoys too. Great wee bus.

Can’t remember hearing that excuse at the time: if that’s the excuse they used, they must have got lost trying to find the other end, since (if memory serves me) they charged up the street, then charged back again …

I travelled to Amsterdam in 1982 on a supporters bus with no loo.

No Easy Jet or Ryanair in those days, tough journey there and back but great result in the old Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam.

From a football perspective certainly not a welcoming city even back then..

Having travelled a lot over the years following Celtic in Europe, the only country in my opinion who know how to police football properly and fairly is Germany. They are used to large travelling supports on a weekly basis and from my experience when we played in Dortmund they tend to understand football fans and how to police properly.

    Glasgow Trouble

We invited 3,000 Ajax fans with tickets to Glasgow and 2,500 behaved themselves and were true supporters , 500 were fannies who wouldn’t last a minute on there own in any Glasgow pub on a Saturday night.

    Amsterdam Trouble

They invited 2,500 Celtic fans with tickets to Amsterdam and all behaved themselves.

Another 10,000 Celtic fans travelled without a match invitation to have a party.

Some of the 10,000 uninvited (without a match invitation) additional happy people who had turned up for a party were targeted by the local fannies (hooligan fans and hooligan police). They proceeded to take their anger and brutality out on the partygoers.

    Lessons to be learned :

Don’t go to uninvited football party’s in shit hole cities where some of the local fans and police are fannies.

Don’t give presents of 2 million euros to shit hole cities where the fannies stay.

Message to Celtic Players please do your best to finish second in our group with Milan finishing third.

To the many good people of Amsterdam and true supporters of Ajax you have been badly let down by your hooligan fans and hooligan police.

Justice will prevail !! … Hail Hail

Yeah I know you mate. You will know my dad better than me.

I was a kid when I went on that bus. I got looked after by a couple of guys on a trip to Dundee when I was around 10 or 11 and missed the KO and they left early to go back to the pub. Not one of my highlights fitba wise but a day of education otherwise. The away trips were crazy in those days. Think we got home around 9pm. My mum was less than pleased. It was her influence that led me to go on the more sensible Livi No1 regulalry the following season.

We come from Dedridge. My old man was never a regular on the bus but went from time to time. My cousins were regulars on the bus too both from Carmondean.

Gutted I can’t make it along on Monday but I have a wife and kid now. Holidays are all taken up.

  21. Gunter Netzer. Now there’s a player I would have loved to see in a Celtic jersey. Mind you, the first time I saw him he was wearing a green one. Unfortunately, it was that of West Germany. Great, great player

  22. Hi

Due to work (aaargh) I will be unable to go the the CL game this Tuesday and looking to sell on the 2 tickets I have.

One is an adult ticket and the other a concession ticket (pensioner or under 16.) They are in section 138, Jock Stein Stand Lower and face value is £28 & £20, but will pass on for £40 the pair.

I am going to the game tomorrow, so If someone who can make use of them is going tomorrow, then can do so then, if not then I live in Glasgow, so can arrange something if it suits the buyer.

Anyone interested then let me know and we can arrange something.

    Cheers

  23. Was going to ask Father Christmas to get me the Annual, though might just bite the bullet early.

It didn’t work last year anyhoo…

After years of getting pestered with ~ what do you want for Christmas? Nobody asked last year and for the first time since The Wall came out I had something I wanted.

    Still all was not lost…

My Birthday’s in early January – as it approached and again no one had asked the question thought I’d get proactive.

Everyone I asked – Oh! I’ve already got your present.

So day before my Daughter calls – Dad is someone getting you the Annual.

No pal, everyone’s already has something for me.

So the next day, my Birthday, opened all my presents and was enjoying the day with my Family when my Daughter hands me another parcel

Opened it up ~ The OFFICIAL Celtic annual

She looked at my face – That was the one?

    Oh yes dear, that’s perfect.

Great (relieved), tried everywhere to get it for you – eventually got a Celtic shop to overnight it so you’d have it today – smiling ear-to-ear

Greatest present I’ve had in years.

Still CQN Annual for me this year.

    BRT&H

From last post re:Rangers Old Club vs New Club – slightly academic but thought it is worth clarifying.

In the 31 July 2012 Club Directory the Club returns are headed thus…

    Celtic F C – SPL – SFA Licensed Club

However for the Ibrox Team the entry is…

    Rangers F C – TBC

Now as Dundee were invited to replace RFC(il) on 16 July 2012 this suggests, though once again is not definitive, that Rangers SFA new membership/transfer of the SFA was not finalised by the time the new SFA Handbook (31 July 2012) was issued – therefore this could well be the relevant Handbook, having said that as I state it’s pretty academic as no reference or description of “Club” has materially changed from the previous Handbook.

    So for me…

14 Prohibition on Transfer of membership

“14.1 It is not permissible for a member to transfer directly or indirectly it’s membership of the Scottish FA to another member or to any another entity, and any such transfer or attempt to effect such a transfer is prohibited…………. Any [other] application for transfer of membership will be reviewed by the Board, which will have complete discretion to reject or grant such application on such terms and conditions as the Board may think fit.”

With my view that, RFC Directors, D&P nor anybody else associated with the old Company or Club could transfer Rangers membership Only the Board of the Scottish FA could IF Rangers are a contiguous Football Club, their membership transfer would have to be granted by the Board of the Scottish FA with whatever terms and conditions it felt fit?

Tough interestingly enough the August 2013 Club Directory has changed it’s Club headings thus….

    Aberdeen F C – SPFL – Premiership.

It does not state whether the Clubs are Licensed by the SFA anymore, this couldn’t be to due to obfuscating the Licensing status of one Club could it????
