Cognitive Dissonance with Pressley always in middle of controversy

738

Stephen Pressley’s Falkirk team did well at Hampden yesterday but the manager did himself no credit with his half time rant at the referee, who chopped off a perfectly good Celtic goal but annoyed Pressley for awarding a penalty when Thomas Rogne was hauled to the ground.

An irritated Pressley, who always seems to be the one in the middle of any controversy, then gave an inexplicable post-match interview to the BBC, demonstrating as clear a case of Cognitive Dissonance you are likely to find outside of a textbook.  At the time he, apparently, hadn’t seen a TV replay of the penalty incident, made no attempt to claim Darren Dods was innocent of the alleged discretion, nor did he suggest the referee had erred, but he was clearly troubled trying to reconcile these facts with his feeling of being wronged.

To all aspiring Cognitive Dissonance posters in the CQN comments section, new standards have been set. You are a bunch of amateurs with functioning resolution pathways and have no future in the game.

  3. Celtic Mac, thank you. Please ensure you don’t read the article, as doing so would undermine your point considerably.

If these people had played the game (at any level btw) with a decent side that was always competing in semi’s. finals and competing for leagues, they would know you don’t just walk over teams all the time. Regardless if you’ve pumped them 5-0 the wk previously.

That was the view (or not the view).of Begg and other panelists apart from Murdo on Shortbread. They did not know who was involved and admitted not seeing it as they were ball watching. Yet it was a “soft” penalty.

That’s the professionalism we have come to know and love from BBC Scotland. Don’t know what happened but if pro-Celtic = soft or wrong.

  7. Stephen Hunt doesn’t make any sense to me at all, we have a load of midfield players at the Club and I can’t see him displacing any of our current midfield..

Be nice to see some of our huge squad going out the door!!

    Blatant cheating.

  9. If bringing in Johnny Russell would mean the end of Sammi then, I feel we have to do everything in the clubs power to bring this player to the club! IMO!

I hope I don’t read somewhere on this sight in the coming days that, someone’s bonus would have been put at risk just to sign this guy.

I fear we will go down the route that the huns(who have spent more than us this season) took when, going for Goodwillie ?

I hope not and, Johnny Russell will be a Celt before the widow closes!

    Off oot.

May God Bless ‘Every’ Celtic Fan.

To be honest, it’s a point of view I’ve only just come round to thinking about recently, but I don’t see any downside to doing it.

The reason people in the media have never mentioned it is because it’s unthinkable with the consequences it would bring down on the national team, our club sides in Europe and the National Association.

Why should we fear that? Why should we be deterred by the damage such a stance would do to our enemies? It’s a bit like that scene in Blazing Saddles, you know the one, where Cleavon Little holds the gun to his own head to stop the locals from lynching him … are we that stupid that we should be afraid of that?

Involving UEFA voluntarily is the preferred option. They might just say it’s the business of the national association, and since our fight is with the national association we then take it outside football. That will bring UEFA into it whether they like it or not, and if that means the SFA pays the price then isn’t that what we want anyway?

Like I say, I see no downside save for what it would cost us in European income during the duration of any ban. But I suspect that too would be challengable in the courts … and in the end we would win.

1204 FOOTBALL: Former Italy striker Luca Toni, 34, has left Juventus for Dubai’s Al Nasr in a permanent deal. He will link up in the United Arab Emirates with former Italy goalkeeper Walter Zenga, the Al Nasr coach

  15. If we are after Johnny Russell then Sammi must be going. Good business IMO.

If we are after Stephen Hunt or Jonny Hayes then Paddy must be going. Good business IMO.

If only. He is in great form at Lazio, 12 in 19 Seire A games and joint 3rd top scorer 3 behind Ibrahimovic.

Can’t imagine Lazio wanting to sell him but if Celtic can bring him in, it will be an absolutely fantastic piece of business.

That is interesting. I thought he would have been desperate to get back.

I won’t be surprised if Jelavic in still there when the ‘window slams shut’ (copyright of the Scottish Media). Everton certainly can’t match the amount the Huns are apparently demanding – so if he leaves it will be for no more than the £4m they got for Bilyaletdinov.
