Cognitive Dissonance with Pressley always in middle of controversy

738

Stephen Pressley’s Falkirk team did well at Hampden yesterday but the manager did himself no credit with his half time rant at the referee, who chopped off a perfectly good Celtic goal but annoyed Pressley for awarding a penalty when Thomas Rogne was hauled to the ground.

An irritated Pressley, who always seems to be the one in the middle of any controversy, then gave an inexplicable post-match interview to the BBC, demonstrating as clear a case of Cognitive Dissonance you are likely to find outside of a textbook.  At the time he, apparently, hadn’t seen a TV replay of the penalty incident, made no attempt to claim Darren Dods was innocent of the alleged discretion, nor did he suggest the referee had erred, but he was clearly troubled trying to reconcile these facts with his feeling of being wronged.

To all aspiring Cognitive Dissonance posters in the CQN comments section, new standards have been set. You are a bunch of amateurs with functioning resolution pathways and have no future in the game.

I reckon so. I wonder how many other big names we can be linked with before tomorrow night is out.

I never liked John Collins… He is surly and miserable yet full of his own conceit.

As a Celtic player he reminds me of Ki. Looks great got a lot of technique but actuall contributes much less than his talents suggests he might.

I raise this as I listened to him blethering on talksport at lunchtime.

He was asked by Gray and Keys.. Who are the great players you’ve played with?

After banging on about 6 or 7 players he mentions Paul McStay as an after thought, virtually dismissing the guy who CARRIED him for Celtic.

Just confirms my opinion of him..sour faced, boring, self important and grudging!

  4. A few, OK, most of the players yesterday looked like they thought victory was a formality. That mindset has been seen several times this season and has cost us big time. Lenny needs to kick some backsides!

Collins was lucky to be able to say he played along side McStay, however I got the feeling he resents the fact as he was never going to be the main man in the middle as he was not in McStays class.

The window time does my head in, at least this one we have some good business.

I have my doubts we will get anyone else in.

Personally can’t see what Phill is up to.

    Hunt?

If nothing else it’s put a spring in the step of the Wolves fans who work with me. The thought of getting rid has fairly cheered them up. ” His lack of talent is matched only by his lack of pace” was the most memorable comment.

“If he’s busy working on transfers what’s he doing in Glasgow at our game?”

Getting paid to be a pundit for the BBC.

And to be fair to Coyle he was the only one talking any sense on there.

I agree, There’s not 1 player from the first 11 i would drop to play Hunt & i would rather give guys like McGeouch & Ibrahim a chance.

I might be picking it up all wrong but the wording of his messages seems to imply that he wants to blame Peter Lawwell and/or board for something. Here is exactly what he said:

“I’m hearing that Peter Lawwell has a decision to make. The deadline is getting Klose…”

So if Klose doesn’t come, is he suggesting it’s Lawwell’s fault?

“I wonder if CFC contacted the agent of a veteran striker playing in Southern Spain just because of length of his name? #sellingthejerseys”

This one seems to imply, we are only interested in making more money from jersey sales even though all printing of names is the same price regardless of the length of name?

Strange messages to be sending out.

Slight change of subject, was’nt the MBB quoted as saying the unaudited accounts and the lack of an AGM would be resolved by the end of January ? Any progress reports on this

Interesting read in the Sunday Post 70’s Memories page yesterday.

Cathloic families had to flee Northern Ireland after receiving threats from I R A. Its a pity they omitted to mention the B SPECIALS giving Catholics a good beating if they were caught with cheese on their piece on a FRIDAY!!!

We have to hope Jelavic goes surely?

For all our sniping at and about him he is a goal scorer who wins games for them.

In their financial position he is unlikely to be replaced.

Controversial… But I’d have him in the hoops any time.

  18. If the Moyes comments are in fact correct and Jelavic stays it effectively cuts off revenue streams, which were already a concern.

This is why, amidst protests, the first installment payment for NEXT Season will be requested fromthe Follow Followers in March.

Calum Murray will take charge of Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie between Inverness Caley Thistle and Celtic.

Murray’s last Celtic appointment was for the 1-0 win over Hearts on December 10 when Fraser Forster saved a late penalty to clinch the points.

Sunday’s Rangers v Dundee United cup-tie will be refereed by Willie Collum who will also be in the middle for the Hearts v Celtic match on Wednesday February 8.

Craig Thomson has taken charge of the last four matches between the clubs at Tynecastle including the game last May when Neil Lennon was attacked by a Hearts supporter

I think Jelavic will end up like the hun slast two leading goalscorers Miller and Boyd

Where are they now anyway ?

    Hail Hail

  21. CultsBhoy – Do we all hope he goes? Remind me who has been fit and their main striker over the period where they have shipped 19 points to us?

He is a good player, but he aint no Messi. It doesn’t matter a jot who plays up front for them when they have the midfield that they do.

Jelavic staying or going will make no material difference to the football team.

Personally I hope he stays, they meed the money….

  22. CultsBhoy loves being 1st on

Lots of Celtic fans have it in for PL and rightly so… Let’s not re write history now that we are on a crest…

Lawwell has a lot to answer for… Even by his own admission- hence he’s saving up for a large gravestone!

  23. TheGreenManalishi, yes, Rangers said their accounts would be released “around” the end of Janaury. I suspect the outcome of the transfer window may have an impact on their ability to get accounts signed off.

Which is why I’m keen to see Jelavic stay.

He’ll certainly have an audience for that. No matter what occurs in the remainder of the window someone will come on here and slag off the board.

As I’ve said before, I think PMG has better sources at Poundland that he does at Celtic Park.

  26. If you were going to buy Jelavic, surely you would leave it late.

What seems strange to me is that they aren´t trying to offload other sellable assets instead of their top scorer. Wages? Perhaps the instalments still to be paid to Rapid factor into this?
