Stephen Pressley’s Falkirk team did well at Hampden yesterday but the manager did himself no credit with his half time rant at the referee, who chopped off a perfectly good Celtic goal but annoyed Pressley for awarding a penalty when Thomas Rogne was hauled to the ground.
An irritated Pressley, who always seems to be the one in the middle of any controversy, then gave an inexplicable post-match interview to the BBC, demonstrating as clear a case of Cognitive Dissonance you are likely to find outside of a textbook. At the time he, apparently, hadn’t seen a TV replay of the penalty incident, made no attempt to claim Darren Dods was innocent of the alleged discretion, nor did he suggest the referee had erred, but he was clearly troubled trying to reconcile these facts with his feeling of being wronged.
To all aspiring Cognitive Dissonance posters in the CQN comments section, new standards have been set. You are a bunch of amateurs with functioning resolution pathways and have no future in the game.

I fancy playing Huns more when they don’t have Jelavic than when they do..
He’s a proven goal scorer.. There is nobody to take his place.
I think he has been working his ticket which seems to be his way.
He’s certainly better than Miller and Boyd too.
I don’t think he can win them the title this year but he could make it a closer race.
I think they’ll take £6m for him 20% of which goes to his old club. I don’t think it will materially impact their financial hell. It will however nail their coffin and gut their morale.

I remember a story from the time John Collins was manager of Hibs.
Apparently he went into the dressing room, took off his shirt and did 50 pressups.
His point to the players was that they needed to look after themselves and apply themselves better.
Presumably the players just thought “what a fudd”.
Sad if true, but then again it could have been just a story.

Paul,
Can you imagine the reams of paper needed by Rangers’ Auditors to describe post balance sheet events?
Where would you start? It’s been a circus for 6 months.

In addition to your comment re 20% to Rapid, its just been posted on Twitter that there is speculation that RFC owe Everton £1.5m for Michael Ball which would make Everton a logical if not a lucrative bidder.

Heard same story…

Have you lost faith in Aluko already? I remember you were willing to give him a chance before you made any judgement.

Disagree. He is the huns’ penalty taker – he leaves then someone else takes his place. I watched him against us in December and couldn’t believe how bad he was. I’d be delighted if he stayed.
Neil Warnock had it right – “he was nothing much to write home about”

Even better… The way it’s going they will make a loss on the sale.. Ha!
Hi folks.
Long time lurker first time poster.
Loving the chat re Jellyfish and the will he wont he go. Personally i hope he stays sooner they go bust the better.
As Miller , Boyd and Novo have all proven ..Jelavic is only a goalscorer due to the mibs
As soon as they leave their influenced environment not only can they not hack where they are Bursaspor, Eskisehirspor and lets face it Turkish football is not half the force it was 10 years ago. Novo can be picked up for free but already it´s more lucrative to see out his time with Sporting Gijón U19´s than take a hefty pay cut to pay for the huns.
Always have to keep an eye on the mibs.

Much as i would love it to be true, but Rangers don’t owe any outstanding monies for Ball
Let’s remember that Ball signed for Rangers in August 2001.
Ason
Why wd thems take 3.5 when W H av offered 5 mill??
I will tell you now there is no way Rangers owe money for Ball. A player they purchased 11 years ago and who left what 6 years ago?
Absolutely no way there is still money outstanding…..
Never a truer word said awe naw.

I think Aluko has done well at the Huns… I suspected he might as I have seen a lot of him at Aberdeen…
In the scale of things the Huns might have lucked out there IMO…Aluko may be wider than we credit him as he is paying his own wage – he has performed- leaving him in a good negotiating position … And maybe not just with the Huns?

“This is why, amidst protests, the first installment payment for NEXT Season will be requested fromthe Follow Followers in March. ”
Does thsi mean (asuming they continue to trade) that next year (2013/14) their first installment will be in January (2013), and the year (season 14/15) after it will be November of the previous year (2013) and in 5 years they will in fact be paying for their tickets in advance of the previous season, meaning that the first installment Season 2017/18 season tickets will be due in May 2016.
yeah with ball, i think some one has TWF.

Surely Phil is alluding to Jellylegs/Rangers and Klose Bros. deal rather than any Celtic signings. Although what Peter Lawell has to do with that I don’t know.

Agent for Molina states discussions at an ‘Advanced’ stage.
Translated from Spanish Media.
Both clubs are, according to the player’s agent, in the middle of negotiations so that all Scottish services is made with green and white football player.
[30/1/2012] Toni Quintero commented a week ago and some British media’s interest in Celtic signing of Jorge Molina, Betis player. At that time, transcended even the amount that could perceive the club Betis: 2.5 million euros.
But now, in the absence of little more than a day to close the winter break, the player’s agent, Domingo Sevillano, has made some statements which ensures that Neil Lennon, the Scottish coach, “wants” to Molina . “It is the striker who has asked,” have expressed.
According to the footballer’s own representative, negotiations are well advanced and are being entirely between the two entities. “Jorge has dropped its claim for the Celtic can bid a higher amount,” said the agent, who also added that “does not mind staying at Betis.”
In the coming hours might Jorge Molina out of the discipline that leads Pepe Mel way to Glasgow, in what would be, if confirmed, a profitable transaction for both parties.
Have the Huns settled with Martin Bain? Not heard much from that…
I guess selling Jelavic will spark a scramble of folk looking to be settled up…

An agreement was reached between Eevrton and Rangers but I dont recall you being party to that agreement Ten Men.
Can you shed some light on that one for us please ?

jude2005 is Neil Lennon \o/
Because West Ham are no longer in the running, they have confirmed a deal for another player today.
ude 2005- Strong stories denying West Ham made any bid for Jellylegs, trying to create a market.Everton are a very tight ship with not a lot of cash. They might walk away if the huns try to ramp up the price by lying about other clubs being interested
Calum Murray will take charge of Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie between Inverness Caley Thistle and Celtic.
Murray’s last Celtic appointment was for the 1-0 win over Hearts on December 10 when Fraser Forster saved a late penalty to clinch the points.
Sunday’s Rangers v Dundee United cup-tie will be refereed by Willie Collum who will also be in the middle for the Hearts v Celtic match on Wednesday February 8.
I hate Sunday football.
Today is officially the longest day of my life.

Obviously you never listened to the entire interview.
When asked about being signed by souness – he was quite emphatic that he grew up supporting the Hoops and it was his desire to play for us (6 years) and not for them.
He also made the point that they were spending fortunes buying half the English National team – whilst we were in the process of rebuilding the Club and the stadium.
And……… as he said – you can see where that has led to today!
Me – I thought he was an effective technical player who (along with the Maestro) had he played in a better Celtic Team might have won more than just one cup medal with us.
There have been a few Hoops players that I have not been particularly predisposed to over the years – but I am curious as to why JC’s mannerisms provoke such a personal dislike for a guy who was an effective player for us for 6 years?
CuriousCSC?

Regardind Collins and the pressups
I remember hearing a player how one day the players at his club (in England) where arguing with their manager about tactics. The Manager shut them all up by going into his pocket and tossing a World Cup Winners medal on the table and telling them to come back to him when they had one of their own and he might listen!
The Manager was Alan Ball.
i agree with cutsboy. jela is a great player and i hope they dont keep him. he is the best player in our leeg. the best by a country yard. some of you might no like to hear it but aluko has been another great bit of bizness by alistair. he must be getting towted for player of the year. the press love the wee guy. he has been superb since he joined. they have a close nit squad that will fight to the end. perhaps the amount of players we have will go against us as it will be really hard to keep them all happy. if rangers can get 8m for jela which i think is a bargun that will be great bizness in this financial temperature. alot can happen in the next couple of days. the papaers all say rangers will bring people in. we need to be careful we are not tricked again by the shrood operators over there. they are very canny biznessmen and they know how to do deals. these sort of deals were their bread and custard before they went to them.
hail hail mon the hoops
Everton still owe Rangers 3 million quid for Alex Cleland
Re: Michael Ball.
Rangers do not owe Everton any money on that deal. The transfer fee was subject to ‘add-ons’, as so many of these things tend to be.
Ball played a certain number of games for the Huns which covered the original payment to Everton. But when he was about to trigger an ‘add-on’ instalment by reaching the agreed number of appearances Ball was dropped like a hot tattie.
What then happened, and as far as I know was NEVER reported in the Scottish media, was Ball had to pay to play for the Huns. I think the money went straight to Everton.
We can only imagine the reaction in the Scottish media had Ball been playing for Celtic rather than the Huns when this happened.

Jela?????????????
Cheers Paul,
I think things could get very interesting if the Jelly man does not get sold.

I dont dis-agree it is unlikely they are still owing for Ball, but as it popped up on Twitter I could not resist passing on the news, purely in the interests of fiscal accuracy!
Michael Ball did trigger that clause in his contract while at hun FC.
Everton then game to an agreement with Rangers over the amount owed. Which was 1.5m pounds.
None of us know what was in that agreement unless somebody wants to step up to the plate and divulge ?
