Cognitive Dissonance with Pressley always in middle of controversy

738

Stephen Pressley’s Falkirk team did well at Hampden yesterday but the manager did himself no credit with his half time rant at the referee, who chopped off a perfectly good Celtic goal but annoyed Pressley for awarding a penalty when Thomas Rogne was hauled to the ground.

An irritated Pressley, who always seems to be the one in the middle of any controversy, then gave an inexplicable post-match interview to the BBC, demonstrating as clear a case of Cognitive Dissonance you are likely to find outside of a textbook.  At the time he, apparently, hadn’t seen a TV replay of the penalty incident, made no attempt to claim Darren Dods was innocent of the alleged discretion, nor did he suggest the referee had erred, but he was clearly troubled trying to reconcile these facts with his feeling of being wronged.

To all aspiring Cognitive Dissonance posters in the CQN comments section, new standards have been set. You are a bunch of amateurs with functioning resolution pathways and have no future in the game.

As I previously stated its unlikely, however I’m not as sure as you, after all is ” No way ” not what they said about the EBT’s when they were first questioned.

I don’t question his talent or technique.. I watched him most weeks when he played for us and I felt he was a good player but never as good as he thought he was. One aspect of his game that I particularly hated was his incessant sideways passing when the opportunity to penetrate was there. I always felt he was a selfish player more interested in seeking personal glory than team glory…. And I always adored McStay do comparisons were always likely not to favour Collins.

Since entering management and punditry I find him dull dour and boring

Only my opinion… Maybe others are captivated by his wit and humour and forensic insights to football?

  4. Funny how Declan just becomes an unfunny, desperate hun, when you have a hangover and feel knackered…

  5. Praecepta, I agree. Personally I’ve never noticed any antipathy towards JC. I think he was a very good player for us for 6 years. He left on a Bosman, ergo no transfer fee, but then so did Henrik (not comparing the two in terms of stature but the point stands).

I heard the Hibs story too, and with the usual caveat that it could just be made up nonsense, the point was probably well conceived (if poorly made). How well has that generation of Hibs players done, Steven Fletcher excluded? He is quite astute on ESPN, maybe he would make a good assistant. Anyway, i think he was better than a few on here have said he was.

Spoke to Davies Provan a long time ago he told me that one of Provans first days working for the radio he asked JC for an interview, JC agreed only if DP carried his boots to his car……scuffle ensued!

  9. Now would be a crazy time to sell Samaras. If he continues his good form & plays well at Euro 2012 what will he be worth? Alot more than 3m that’s for sure.

  10. excathedra and Awe_Naw – Ball left Rangers in 2005. Everton are parlous, this is well known. It defies all logic that they allowed Rangers to hold a debt of 7 figures for almost 7 years.

    Is it possible? Yes.

    Is it likely? No.

Not with the various means a football club has at its disposal to get money it is owed from other clubs.

I would be absolutely astounded of forehead of this was true.

  11. Just heard on Talksport that Southampton are signing Billty Sharp from Doncaster.

Hopefully this will see an end to the rumours regarding Hooper!

thebutteredbarnet – i dont think there is owt i can say to cheer up asonofdan. i think he is maybe just coming round to the headset of guys like me that we are being taken for a ride by these sharlatuns who are in charge of our great club. lennon has been wanting a tall striker from the start and he still hasnt got one. in my jotters he has not been backed again. guys like me are the conshuns of the club and we need to sit down and be counted so everyone else knows the score. rangers arent out of this and they might still pull it out of the suitcase and keep jela. that will be like a new signing for them.

That sounds about right on the two clubs coming to an agreement.

I read the interview in an English paper. I think it was with Patrick Barclay.

I don’t wish to be a killjoy but Jock Stein never ever said that.

The whole thing comes from a hypothetical tale in Danny McGrain’s first biography and it has developed mythical status ever since.

*oh yes he did and it was on the Donnie B McLeod show on BBC 2 in 1973, he further commented on the fact that Catholic bhoys were dying tae play for us but once we got the non-RC lhads in they were busting a gut for us by the time the coaching staff were done.

I can assure you that it is bang on the money that Rangers and Everton reached an “undisclosed agreement” over Michael Ball. The agreement was made between Wyness and Murray. Seemingly Everton have become exceedingly itchy for what is still due since Sir David of unquestionable dignity disposed of his wealth off shore into Irish accounts.

I thought that maybe that it had become disclosed and you were goingto breath some light onto it-

I have been an admirer of Stephen Pressley but yesterday, after his team had played admirably, he let himself down badly. To claim that ,not only had the referee got the penalty decision wrong, but that he was biassed, was nothing short of disgraceful. I hope that when he sees the incident again, he will be a big enough man to apologise.. If that was not a penalty , we will have to change the name of our game to ‘RUGBY FOOTBALL’. Moreover if more referees penalised the ‘penalty cuddlers’ this way, this blight to our game would quickly be stopped.

As is well documented on CQN I am and always have been a big fan of Tony Stokes. I was desperate that we signed him , predicting he would score a barrow load. I also wager that he’ll be top scorer , either out right or certainly by goals to minutes played ratio. I am also keen that he is the focus of future plans more than Hooper ( who I also love).

I know Stokes is only 23 but I’m still amazed when this features as part of any commentary. He looks older, he plays older and Zi really believe he will become a Celtic great in due course. I think he’ll be at Celtic for at least another 5 years..Until he’s 28!

Agree with all of them except McGeady. Nowhere near good enough to be mentioned in that kind of company.

Hugely overrated in my opinion. I think James Forrest is a better player than McGeady already.

You’re not even allowed to do that in rugby. Any deliberate interference with or obstruction of an opposition player who is not in possession of the ball is a penalty. Yip, even in rugby.

If someone owed you money and you were swimming in it at the time and you decided to give them some leeway but in the end they never really came back with the money that they owed you and you then hit hard times and you saw your buddy who has been hit by harder times selling his car at twice the value he still owed you and you fancied that car by yourself. Would you buy a copy of the Sunday post or ask any SNP politician to help sort out this issue.
