“News” broke this morning that Carlton Cole has left Celtic. Next they’ll be telling us the Berlin Wall has fallen.
Carlton had ‘left the building’ some time ago. Last month I asked about him in unflattering terms “Didn’t look like a Celtic player on paper or on the field, so why did we sign him?”. He was a pay-as-you-play punt, available to sign between transfer windows. If he could cut it, he’d get a game and be paid, if not, he wouldn’t cost a penny.
He didn’t work out (of course), but there’s no real harm in taking punts like this. I suspect Celtic also had a break option in Colin Kazim-Richards contract which allowed them to encourage him out of town this month. He was another bizarre looking signing who didn’t work out, but unlike Carlton, at least we got the odd shift out of Colin.
Don’t look for top-level strategy in all this but you’ll find a low-level strategy known at Celtic Park as ‘Keep the receipt” business. Get them in, get an option to make the move permanent, but give yourself an out, in case the warning signs have substance.
In short, the Carlton Cole-Colin Kazim-Richards strategy looks indiscriminate but it’s not really. Making transfer mistakes is a problem for all, but if you’re going to do it, and every club does, make cheap mistakes.

I think the fixture list works to a formula, with the promoted team taking the place of the relegated team.
The previous top six are assumed to repeat that, and are drawn accordingly. Same with the bottom six.
This should mean that we play the promoted team at home first,as we played the relegated team away first last season.

Glad yer enjoying it,bud.

Wan thing is for sure, I’d give my newly acquired ST to any of the Great Celts that frequent CQN….. BSR is proper Legend, he has reserved a Seat for Awesome Celts……. I dinnae think it gets better than that….. The one thing he said that was annoying him…… was the empty stadium.

Regarding fixture list, was mentioned on Twitter last night, that we play Sevco on Sept. 11th. No mention of where, but, I suspect it will be at their place. Fixtures have already been released to media, for release @ 9.00am. HH
Listened to this whilst playing Pro evolution Soccer.

I heard the same date but at CP
Fans will be allowed to stand at an Old Firm derby for the first time in 22 years when Celtic host Rangers in the opening collision of the Glasgow rivals next season, Telegraph Sport can reveal. Celtic began to install the first safe standing area in the Scottish Premiership on Thursday, having been granted permission last year to replace a fixed seating area in the north east corner of Celtic Park with a rail seating system of the type used in some European grounds, most notably Borussia Dortmund’s Westfalen Stadion.
Celtic plan to accommodate the Green Brigade faction of their support in the 2600-capacity section and providing there is agreement on the safety certificate issued by Glasgow City Council, the new arrangement will be in use when Rangers – back in the top flight of Scottish football for the first time since the financial meltdown at Ibrox in 2012 – visit the east end of Glasgow in September.

Glasgow City Council operates a robust inspection regime but although Rangers fans are also accommodated in the east stand, it is understood that there will be sufficient distance between them and the Celtic supporters in the new section to permit the use of safe standing. Rangers removed the last standing area at Ibrox in 1994, to comply with the provisions of the Taylor Report – which was accepted as the safety standard by the SFA although it had no force in Scots law – and Celtic followed suit when Parkhead began to be reconstructed under the ownership of Fergus McCann the same year.
The Scottish Premiership fixture list for next season will be revealed on Friday and will observe the convention that the ground which hosts the final Old Firm league derby of the most recent campaign also accommodates the first meeting of the next applicable season.

The last time the sides met in a league match was at Celtic Park on April 29, 2012, when Ally McCoist’s Rangers went down 3-0 to the Celtic side who were champions that year under Neil Lennon.
Another consideration in compiling the fixture list is that Celtic played 16 home league games last season and are entitled to host 17 fixtures next time, including two after the Scottish Premiership splits into top and bottom sixes. Assuming that Rangers finish in the top six, they will have three post-split home games including one against Celtic, allowing more flexibility to avoid the chance of an Old Firm derby doubling as a title decider.
I like ” assuming Rangers finish in the top 6″ comment!
” Celtic away games to Inverness, Aberdeen and Ross County to immediately precede CL qualifiers.
Paranoid? Moi? ”
Of course you are paranoid. The Away games against those teams will be AFTER the CL games.

I didn`t know that. Thanks.

Cheerio for now.
Good morning friends from a damp but much brighter than of late (i.e. the grey clouds are light rather than dark) East Kilbride.
Hoping to have a Big Happy Friday golfing with my eldest son at Pitreavie so any local weather REPORTS from there would be appreciated. Those pesky ‘forecast’ things look less than optimistic.

Pacamac,and have a guid yin!

Twists N Turns –
Do these folk not do any research whatsoever? Leaving aside the obvious mistakes such as ‘Old Firm’ and ‘back’ the bit that really got me was “although Rangers fans are also accommodated in the east stand, it is understood that there will be sufficient distance between them and the Celtic supporters in the new section to permit the use of safe standing.” In 2012 and earlier there was aabout 10 rows of empty seats left as the ‘no mans land’ and this was never thought to be a problem. The Safe Standing section is nowhere near the visiting fans of any club!
I also see the slightly more subtle hint in order to fit in with the ‘same club’ myth – “and will observe the convention that the ground which hosts the final Old Firm league derby of the most recent campaign also accommodates the first meeting of the next applicable season.” – i.e. the last ever game against them was at our place in 2012 so we get the first one in the ‘next applicable season’.
Grrrrrrrrrrr

“It was a difficult season in terms of getting enough game time. I really wanted to help the boys on the field.
“The support I received from the fans will give me great memories, to hear them singing my name even when I wasn’t on the pitch was special.
“So a big thank you to the green and white family.
“I wish everyone associated with Celtic FC all the best for the future.”

Have we signed a striker yet ? If Joey Big mouth ever signs for the zombies he will wind up some hammer thrower in one of our highland teams and he will pick up his retirement wages from the bowels of the daily record.

Or may pick out his bowels from amongst his retirement wages?

Clint Hill was last spotted running from the motorcade in Dealey Plaza
Jamesgang what’s the bet he will be on a pay per play contract with an imaginary magic hat like bonus that has as much chance of being paid as a Ragers charity match fund.

Anyone on who lives in Greece?
I’m meant to be flying to Athens next Wednesday and have read that airport workers have strikes scheduled from Mon to Friday.
It’s unclear if it will be both domestic and international flights impacted and I wondered if anyone on can shed some light on it.
Thanks
medtim
I posted the above last night.
Thought it might be of interest to anyone flying to Greece next week.
A strike has been called by airport workers from Monday 19th to Friday 24th inc.
At the moment,it’s unclear if international flights will be hit.
However, the ATCs may join in sympathy which will almost certainly impact.
Any other info welcome.
Hearts away first game

Do we have a friendly set up for the 1st week of the SPL fixtures ? I always thought the Champions unfurled the flag on the 1st day of the season at home but we’re away to the mini’s…..

I’m sorry to hear about your Mother’s passing Hvratski Jim – RIP.
West End of the East End
Because we’ve chosen to take a week off in August to play a friendly (13th v Inter), they schedule that as a home game then have away games either side of it.
We started away to St Johnstone two years ago
Would have preferred a home match to unfurl the flag. Anyway lets go to the cesspit and rip them to bits. Great time to send a message.
Gary67
That opener is as tough as it gets.

Hearts a 6th Aug
Thistle h 13th Aug Postponed

Apparently the flag will be unfurled at first home euro qualifier.
That’s a tough set of opening fixtures
We can beat our three nearest rivals in our first four league games
EuroChamps67 – Good shout yesterday with your tip for a Ryan Moore multibet!!
Any tips for today welcome, thanks

It’s a bloody joke that we can’t unfurl the flag at home first day of the season. Some things are sacred tradition and shouldn’t be dictated by Sky
