“News” broke this morning that Carlton Cole has left Celtic. Next they’ll be telling us the Berlin Wall has fallen.
Carlton had ‘left the building’ some time ago. Last month I asked about him in unflattering terms “Didn’t look like a Celtic player on paper or on the field, so why did we sign him?”. He was a pay-as-you-play punt, available to sign between transfer windows. If he could cut it, he’d get a game and be paid, if not, he wouldn’t cost a penny.
He didn’t work out (of course), but there’s no real harm in taking punts like this. I suspect Celtic also had a break option in Colin Kazim-Richards contract which allowed them to encourage him out of town this month. He was another bizarre looking signing who didn’t work out, but unlike Carlton, at least we got the odd shift out of Colin.
Don’t look for top-level strategy in all this but you’ll find a low-level strategy known at Celtic Park as ‘Keep the receipt” business. Get them in, get an option to make the move permanent, but give yourself an out, in case the warning signs have substance.
In short, the Carlton Cole-Colin Kazim-Richards strategy looks indiscriminate but it’s not really. Making transfer mistakes is a problem for all, but if you’re going to do it, and every club does, make cheap mistakes.

Joe Hart is a scrotum.
England are playing it a wee bit rough, I think.
to really upset the dottitears counters.
the relocations has opened up several sections of the sold out areas with a few seats.
Ernie..,
Don’t know where you get your numbers suggest try here,
http://countrymeters.info/en/Norway
As I said earlier, % of population in terms of numbers is misleading, using your numbers Norway has 420000 immigrants per year compared to the UKs 1.5M per year.
So dressing it up to suit your agenda does not hide the fact that the UK has a much bigger intake than Norway. Norway does not support unemployed migrants they have to be self sufficient with medical cover.
I won’t be as silly as saying your plain wrong because it’s just an opinion supported by only the evidence you selectively use to further your agenda but there is far more subjective info available than your limited selection and far more interpretations of that information that you are willing to accept.
BR will have a wee smile at getting £50 mil for Sterling

I delayed my response on purpose…. make you realise I’m not a sharp whizz either….. and also my phone battery died and I needed a smoke and a beer before even contemplating that mission.
Cheers. Always appreciated.

Where are you getting 1.5M?
Even Migration Watch have total net migration at 333k with EU migrants making up 184k of that.
That was for the year ending December 2015 here
Beginning to warm to the idea of signing Robson-Kanu.
Would be a good partner for Leigh.
Big wage but no fee.
Have we signed a bad Welsh player?
Ledley
Bellamy
Hartson
Matthews
All did great jobs for us

Ernie…,
We could also discuss it objectively but apparently that is not what you want.
Weeminger,
I was using the 2.5% ernie provided and underestimate of 60,000,000 UK population.
What a crap game -)))

Ah, that would be immigrants at any one time, rather than per year. Just to clear up any confusion over numbers.
Weeminger,
I think confusing the numbers was exactly the game ernie was playing, which is why I joined in and made comments about subjective and objective.
For any language nerds like me, I’ve always loved the English and Welsh names for England and Wales.
“Welsh” was an Anglo-Saxon word meaning “foreigner.” I always loved the arrogance of that, invading a country and calling the habitants, “foreigners.” “Wales,” therefore was a word which meant something like, “foreign country.”
The Welsh call their country Cymru, which I’m led to believe means something like, “our country,” while England is called, “Lloegyr” which supposedly means either, “lost lands” or some derivation of “warriors.”
I think these words tell us something about the Anglo-Saxon invasions after the withdrawal of the Roman legions.
There a some parallels between the fall of the Empire in the west and the current migrant crisis, but that’s a whole nother story.

‘% of population in terms of numbers is misleading,’
###
Of course it isn’t misleading. It’s the only way to see things in perspective.
It’s a bit like this:

‘Norway does not support unemployed migrants they have to be self sufficient with medical cover’
And how exactly do unemployed migrants depress the wages or conditions of indigenous workers, which is what the original argument was?
It looks to me that you might have an issue with migrants per se, rather than the effect they may or may not have on employment conditions.

Oh and weeminger, at any one time does not clear up it adds to further confusion, what then are the %’s in terms of, that ernie refers to. A proportion of what exactly, and “at any one time” does not mean anything to me, I could interprets that to mean that it’s 2.5% of the UK population every month, what exactly does “at any one time mean” ?
Joe ‘magifique’ Barton: It would be great if we leave the EU, of course. When our gulls fly, they wait for the mouth of Warbirton to feed the masses. They follow the ship, or something like that…. anyway, it’s all about the ‘Gers. They follow follow the gulls…. no, they follow the boat…. no, wait….
“WTF? That’s not my signature! Who’s behind this? I didn’t sign up to this crap!”
Just passing on what was ‘reported’ to me.

1-0 the dragons.
Bendigedig:-)
Yee ha
Jo Hart getting the blame…rightly so.
Hart is hopeless
Joe Hart Superstar walks like a wummin and he wears a bra…
You’ve been Baled…
World Class Goalkeeper ho ho ho di feckin ho:))
Looks like they wont have to kick Engerland out after all.
Taxi for Woy
Robson Kanu is a workhorse and a pest up front. Never gives defenders a seconds peace
Ferocious pace in the Wales England game, Ledley a bit off the pace, Ramsey outstanding. Welsh left back will need a BMX for the second half, he is covering some ground.
Glad to see Wales take the lead, Bale a remarkable fre kick taker, good and lucky simultaneously.
Enjoyable scrap rather than a great game. I jumped out of my chair when Bale score, thought I wasn’t bothered too :-)
Shearer looks like he has lost a kidney!
Sterling is the escaped goat this time it seems.
Brilliant goal!

If you’re saying (not you personally) that 2.5% of the UK population is immigrants. I’d say that it meant it was 2.5% of the average UK population.
So you’re correct “at any given time” was perhaps the wrong way to refer to the overall population.
A Robson-Kanu/Griff patrnership would run riot up here. Unfortunately displays like this would put him way out of our reach (if he was ever in it).
Stringer….where did Shearer’s goat escape from?
Damo Lennon: Cymru comes from ‘Cwm’ meaning valley and ‘ru’ comes from ‘rhu’ which means people.
I forget the origins of Lloegyr.
The Gaelic for Wales is An Bhreatain Bheag which literally means Little Brittain but refers to the Celtic people who were forced westwards from England by the Romans and who settled in the valleys.
The word Gael meaning an Irish person comes from the Welsh word ‘gwyddl’ which means wild!
