“News” broke this morning that Carlton Cole has left Celtic. Next they’ll be telling us the Berlin Wall has fallen.
Carlton had ‘left the building’ some time ago. Last month I asked about him in unflattering terms “Didn’t look like a Celtic player on paper or on the field, so why did we sign him?”. He was a pay-as-you-play punt, available to sign between transfer windows. If he could cut it, he’d get a game and be paid, if not, he wouldn’t cost a penny.
He didn’t work out (of course), but there’s no real harm in taking punts like this. I suspect Celtic also had a break option in Colin Kazim-Richards contract which allowed them to encourage him out of town this month. He was another bizarre looking signing who didn’t work out, but unlike Carlton, at least we got the odd shift out of Colin.
Don’t look for top-level strategy in all this but you’ll find a low-level strategy known at Celtic Park as ‘Keep the receipt” business. Get them in, get an option to make the move permanent, but give yourself an out, in case the warning signs have substance.
In short, the Carlton Cole-Colin Kazim-Richards strategy looks indiscriminate but it’s not really. Making transfer mistakes is a problem for all, but if you’re going to do it, and every club does, make cheap mistakes.

The Supremes?
Weeminger,
Unlike those who are arguing with me, I am making no assumptions, and unlike them I do not believe anything is likely or unlikely.
I believe when it comes to renegotiating trade deals, the UK will have decisions to make and will be able to make those decisions on its own terms for better or worse. But remember Norway has security restrictions that must be adhered to for those who want to migrate and they must be self sufficient, members don’t and are not allowed to. So eventually the social benefits system will collapse.
I believe globalisation reduces the dependency on the EU in that restrictions in place currently will no longer apply. Though that will be balanced by companies set up to take advantage of membership, moving.
There are too many pros and cons thus room for lies, that is why for, me it’s a simple question, do I want to be part of an organisation/community that consider Turkey worthy of membership. It really is that simple for me.
Tend to keep out of politics on here but if it wasn’t for my great grandparents migrating during An gorta mor, I wouldn’t be here, probably like a lot that post on here….just a thought.
Clint Hill spotted in Glasgow taxi rank, holding a cardboard sign with ‘Warburton’ on it.
Joseph ‘properbear’ Barton not happy.
Headlines are one thing, reality is another. Has Joey terminated his contract before he even signed it? Has he signed it? Who are these people? Who’s involved? We should know!
…. it’s funny because we really don’t care :) – Please don’t say I care because I comment on it.
Let’s enjoy being more than good Bhoys & Ghirls. Let’s enjoy being damn good people, and let no corruption spoil that.
Don’t vote. Ignore it. Fight it.

Ok but the opinion that we will have to accept free movement is based on the evidence of non-EU countries that have trade deals.
The opinion that we won’t is solely based on the size of our economy, and that we’ll be able to force them to accept our terms.
for apropos of nothing
Visited the stadium on business there, and straight from the horses mouth got a personal dot update.
Every single seat in Celtic Park apart from a limited number in the Lisbon Lions Upper Stand now belongs to a season ticket holder.
It is expected that the entire 53,000 seats will be sold and Celtic once again will have more season tickets holders than any other club ground holds in capacity.
Incredible turnaround, and now that the Celtic support have fully backed the club, it’s unthinkable that the club will not back the support.

Police are also investigating reports the suspect shouted “Britain First”, a possible reference to the far-right political party, as he launched the attack, Vikram Dodd, Nazia Parveen and Rob Booth report.
Graeme Howard, 38, who lives in nearby Bond Street, told the Guardian he heard the man shout “Britain First” before the shooting and during the arrest.
Police were understood to be talking to at least one witness who claimed to have heard the attacker shout words about the rightwing group, and the motivation for the incident will form part of their inquiry.
“I heard the shot and I ran outside and saw some ladies from the cafe running out with towels,” he said. “There was loads of screaming and shouting and the police officers showed up.
“He was shouting Britain First when he was doing it and being arrested. He was pinned down by two police officers and she was taken away in an ambulance.”
Now st have been sold the club will do absolutely nothing about cheating… same club… res12… obaf
Celtic v Inter Milan, Limerick 13th August
Jo Cox has died, what a world we live in
Not posted in ages….
Good riddance to Carlton Cole and CKR… Two signings that any right thinking Celtic fan could see were a complete waste of time.
Ok they may not have cost the earth but why even take a punt on guys like that ? Who the hell is scouting that rubbish and more importantly who is sanctioning their signings?
These guys deprived Christie and Roberts of pitch time.
Sorry not buying apologist clap trap about keeping receipts. These guys were pony and anyone with an eye for the game would have spotted that the first time they watched them.
Would Brendan entertain that?
Glad to see Lawwell back in his box.
There is along running dispute between Norway and the EU about how to manage the Norwegians oils rigs, Norway told the EU to sling their hook, the EU are still bleating about it, the Norwegians told them the issue is not up for negotiation, no member of Europe has that power to veto EU decisions.
The EU support the lies coming out of the Ukraine and try to distract from what is going on in Turkey and the threat it poses to Europe, Turkey dictate to the EU the terms of refugee movement and the EU pays for the privilege, and Turkey demands the imprisonments of people who criticise its leader and the EU complies, is this a community you want to be part of ?
Canman
you are assuming Turkey will be allowed to join the EU.
Which countries are going to vote them in.
Maybe you should read this

Right wing, left wing!.

May God give her husband and babies strength to get through this terrible time.
RIP.
Whether it was politically motivated or a random killing by some lunatic, it is a terrible tragedy.
I do agree with maradominic that we should wait before speculating on the motive etc.

It should be straightforward for them to change your allotted programme on C178 to STVHD.
Contacting them might take longer though.

Very sad to read of the death of Jo Cox. May she rest in peace.
clinko..,
You appear to believe nothing can go wrong with that application, you only need to look at Greece’s application, filled out by the bankers and audited by their banker pals and bobs yer uncle it’s all Greece’s fault the auditors were duped, please don’t be so naive.
As for democracy, Turkey was democratic before the current dictator took over and they can simulate it again if that’s all it takes, once they are members there’s not a lot the EU can do about it if they return to a caliphate or dictatorship as long as they go through the motions of elections.
So much for Britain’s strict gun laws.
A elected representative of the people murdered while carrying out her civic duties, that’s a very sad and dangerous state of affairs in Britain.
Rest In Peace Jo Cox
Canman
if you think Turkeys application can just be rubber stamped then I don’t think you are right.
There are far too many people who share your concerns and mine (which I think are the same by the way) that will not allow this to happen.Being a democracy (or pretending to be one) is not enough to gain admission.
Clinko..,
As I said, it worked for Greece and it will work for Turkey if that is what is decided behind closed doors.
