St Mirren have won eight points from their four post-split games, second only to Celtic in that respect. Fifth place and a European spot looked out of reach just a month ago, but as Saints bagged those points, Dundee United have lost all games. The Tannadice club cling onto the European spot by a single point.
This means we can expect Stephen Robinson’s side to be in combative form at Celtic Park tomorrow. With the league title already secured, Brendan Rodgers will be mindful of next week’s Scottish Cup Final, with all its historic consequences. His trepidation will be heightened by the injury to Reo Hatate during Wednesday’s combative game.
That should mean we see a similar line-up to Wednesday. James Forrest, Yang and Johnny Kenny leading the line, with Maik Nawrocki and Auston Trusty flanked by Anthony Ralston and Jeffrey Schlupp at the back.
Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo would both benefit from more game time to see if they can build on the good work at Pittodrie, while Callum McGregor is certain to start what is a celebratory day. Viljami Sinisalo has impressed over the last two months, but if Brendan intends to play Kasper Schmeichel in the Cup Final, he should play tomorrow. Cobwebs were evident against Hibs last week, another outing would help the keeper.
Enjoy the sunshine on Trophy Day.

Unsurprising news about Reo given the ferocity of the assault.
… As described by Andy Campbell, BBC Sport Scotland
“The Japan midfielder, 27, appeared to hurt his knee following a challenge by the Aberdeen’s Pape Gueye”
Note the use of “hurt” as an active, rather than passive verb along with the attribution of Reo as the subject rather than the object noun?
Basically “looked like Reo injured himself”
I don’t blame the schools.
Decades ago one of the Scottish rags employed a thick nut with the same name.
I do not know if it is this guy.
ROTTEN NEWS about REO.
Hopefully either LUKE or PAULO will step up and play a blinder !

Back to Basics – Glass Half Full on 16th May 2025 3:00 pm
…………………………………………………………………………
Great post.
Excellent analysis.
Won’t be in Glasgow to enjoy the Champions celebrations. Having been in the Trongate for the last two years’ celebrations the main problem was lack of bins and toilet facilities. Celtic fans will enjoy the day responsibly – any criticism afterwards is likely to be petty and an attempt at whataboutery.
Enjoy tomorrow and be proud responsible Tims. 🍀🍀
On VE day there were street parties all over the country- not orange walks
So we’re having a VE street party – Victory for the Eastend
Good afternoon all from the Tolbooth. A sunny day at old Glasgow Cross. 😎
And last weekend was VE day not this weekend anyway 🙄
…..the best one re orange.
What’s the difference between an apple and an orange ?
Written on Belfast wall.
No Pope here.Underneath someone scribbled Lucky Pope.
Another one on wall in loyalist territory
God save Ulster.
Some wit answered in chalk He had better because the UVF wont.

BRRB will be looking out for you…….he is the CQN’s Alan Whicker on fine ale and assorted beverages.
f hell PP , love it.
There were two challenges on LUke MC on Wednesday that they didn’t feel warranted a second look. One when the guy more or less put a basketball pick on him and put two hands to the wee man’s face, and the 2nd one when the Aberdeen player went studs up on his ankle. Now I know the game has changed a lot since most of us played, but according to their new rules they are supposed to be lookingafter the safety of the players at all times. Look at that poor player for Notts Forrest that is in an induced Coma right now. Probably wouldn’t have happened by the old offside rules. The game had changed a lot in the last 30 years and I am all for protecting our players. There was a great player at Celtic in the late 80s, early 90s, Stevie Murray. Smooth center midfielder who got done in the back of the knee against Motherwell reserves. Career over at a very young age. I think we signed him from Cloughie. Sad end to a very promising career. I hope wee Reo recovers well as his play in the middle recently has been wonderful. The wee mhan has the composure to come back and work the ball around in the back and then plays that killer pass. I was driving home the other night and was just wishing I wish we could take the parts of Roy Keane, Roy Aitken, Paul McStay and wee John Collins, and have the perfect midfielder that could play with a swagger, but look after himself and his teammates. I know I know, wishful thinking.

Back to Basics.
Gueye did indeed do Reo and didn’t even get a yellow. Now that Reo will miss the cup final I hope our fans let the dirty bastard know what we think of him when he is on the ball and hopefully AJ will do him proper.
brilliant b2b
Log in difficult once again.
Sad but not surprised that Hatate won’t be available for the Final. Dreadful challenge and even more dreadful reaction of the officials.
Hope there is nothing like that tomorrow.
Joes11, Jackiemac – thank you.
Bheaver – yip. Tricky one.
Notwithstanding the anger felt, Brendan will insist on calm to deliver the outcome.
If Gueye starts the game?
This will be a cynical lightning rod to fans anger in the stadium … as part of an Aberdeen plan to make it a needly affair.
Boondocks Saint re Steve Murray …
I remember it.
Steve was a rising star in the reserves.
Jamie Dolan was the perpetrator.
In law, you can’t libel or defame the dead …
… so feel free to say what you want about the wee b*****d
There’s been a slump in sales seemingly

Back to Basics,
I knew it was that player but I didn’t want to say. I don’t think we were even given a foul.
Sean
Even covering the Italian Cup Final on BBC Scotland news , Sevco women too, only mention of the League winners Celtic was to tell us that Hatae is out.
The Gueye challenge on Reo reminded me of the assault which ended John Kennedy’s career. In both cases the culprit was clearly intent on inflicting serious injury on his opponent.
I hope very much that Reo’s recovery is more successful than John’s was.
Hatate like all our Japanese players is sporting and courteous to all players on the pitch and they go over help them up etc, this scumbag deliberately done him, for no reason as the whistle had stopped play, just win it for the wee guy great motivation if any more is needed.
On a completely different subject, when oh when is the world going to do something about Israel and their murderous disgraceful behaviour, they of all people, scanndal.
KINGLuBO
PS Hope Hatate and Jota will be there tomorrow
Israel will stop when the USA tells them to stop under threat of no more military aid. Trumpr has just toured the rich gulf states getting billions in orders and investements, even heard it’s in the trillions, nothing mentioned about Gaza, leave or die are the choices facing the Palestinians of Gaza, no wonder powerful dictators are saying stuff the world order and acting accordingly.
typos
That Reo Hatate is out of, not only tomorrow’s SPL trophy match, but the Scottish Cup Final into the bargain is a total disgrace, and yet another example of the type of assault after which the perp gets away scot free. That is bad enough but the actions of both the referee and the fourth official after said assault are totallty unacceptable. These are SFA officials dont forget. That ‘challenge’ could have been, or could be a career ending one for Reo, let us make it a career ending one for the officials involved. One has already gone this season, for failing to carry out his job under the rules, let us add another two to that tally, time to make it clear to all concerned in that masonic cabal….we’re not gonna take it, not from you or from any of your fellow travellers.
Be gone,…..gone gone gone
